1.Re: Help for Newcomers
Posted by Idwiz on 9/2/2003 1:50:54 PM
I had been thinking of trying woodworking as a craft for my druid. Unfortunately, a druid cannot equip the woodcutters axe required to harvest wood.

Would it be possible to have an axe that can be equipped by characters that cannot use martial weapons or should I just find another craft and consider this one a bad choice for druids?
2.Expectations

First of all, I am posting here because I don't want to necessarily be seen as making a formal suggestion to the development team to change anything...I just want to "air my grievance."

Basically, I'm wondering what sort of levels the designers and builders of Vives would like to see the users reach and how long should it take? I know that power gaming is frowned upon and I don't think I could ever be accused of it, but roughly how many hours in game should I expect to ...

Additionally, death in Vives plays a huge factor in advancement. After one or two respawns, you can expect to have an extrememly difficult time gaining levels, as the EP is non-replenishable by character. This is by design... death is not something to be taken lightly.

Would it be fair to interpret this to mean that if I've respawned my character more than twice already, I may already be set up for disappointment? I'm ...

Statistically & objectively, it takes normal characters about 2 hours to reach level 3, 6 hours to reach level 4, 15-20 hours to reach level 5, 30-40 hours to reach level 6, 50-60 hours to reach level 7, about 120 hours to reach level 8, and about 300 hours to reach level 10.

By level 7, characters should be able to travel most overland places singly or in pair, and be able to escape from more dangerous places.

HCR death rules

Potentially dumb question, but is HCR an acronym or just short-hand for hardcore?

Another potentially unanswerable question: How many of the active characters in Vives right now are capable of casting resurrection of another character a) from their own divine magic or b) with a scroll? And how difficult is it to get ones hands on a rez scroll right now?

I'm just wondering how likely it would be that anyone would ...

My latest dirt nap is a perfect example of this. I realized I was overmatched by a nasty bug and starting retreating, but when I retreated out of the cave, the bug was already outside when the new area loaded.

I'd be willing to accept that a human or elf couldn't outrun a giant bug anways (I remember reading somewhere that in relative terms, bug are superfast runners), but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have been caught if I didn't have to "zone."

So, I learn another ...

This serious discussion is taking away from my original post...

Give me XP!!

Sorry, I'll go away now. :P

I'm in. I love them Yahoo pools. Although I usually play will money on the line - that probably isn't practical in this case.

See y'all on the grid.

Well, if it makes you happy, I guess I could settle for McNabb.
11.Re: Tailoring Clothes?
Posted by Idwiz on 9/9/2003 3:50:09 PM
I would like to add my voice to this request as well. In trying to select a craft to develop, I quickly discovered that, as a Druid, I couldn't chop wood or mine (both of the required tools are martial in nature and cannot be equipped by a Druid). So, with my sister Pokeundi as my mentor ;), I have been pursuing tailoring. This has been lots of fun, but one thing I find a little unsavory is harvesting the animals required for my craft. Sure, boars and wolves and bears attack me on-sight and I ...

I also agree that a druid would harvest from nature to a degree. It's all part of the "circle of life" and nature's balance, but tailoring as a craft does require its practitioners to become one of

Since this is just phase two of the punishment, I don't see why everyone is acting like we've seen the last of Calandra. Rather than farewell, we could all just say "see ya later." Heck, Sylvan will probably be back before I get another chance to log in to the game. It ain't no thang. Just take yer medicine.

My experience with Calandra has been that she is a pretty well played character, but a an old pair of boots could appear to be a good roleplayer when Alenuska is ...

I agree. People who are looking for a group should have to designate themselves as such.
