| 1. | Re: Welcome New Folks! Posted by IceFalcon on 7/30/2003 4:11:03 PM Thanks for the welcome. As a new member of Vives and a new player to the on-line NWN gaming community, I am really looking forward to adding my knowledge and experience to the Vives world. I'm been a pnp DM since before the egg and have gamed all across the globe (thanks to Uncle Sam) with many people from many backgrounds. What a wonderful experience!
So as I said, I am really looking forward to participating in this new, exciting virtual world of AD&D.

| 2. | Re: Quest Suggestions Posted by icefalcon on 8/1/2003 3:04:52 PM I have a very large collection of old Dungeon Magazine games and side breaks that I could dump to PDF format and send to the Vives game developers. Why reinvent the wheel when thousands of smaller, less well known modules of all different sizes/kinds already exist?

| 3. | Re: Quest Suggestions Posted by IceFalcon on 8/2/2003 6:36:22 AM :)
Because of the number of them I'd have to dig through, can someone provide a general direction on the kinds of mods that would fit well into the Vives world theme? I assume there is some kind of overarching theme... or goal, beyond just XP hunting and general role playing between characters.
I noticed that the docks area only had Thugs. Why don't I dig into that area to start. Who should I email the PDF to when complete?

| 4. | Quest Suggestions - The Riddle Master Posted by IceFalcon on 8/3/2003 8:26:11 AM The Riddle Master
- Dresses as a vagabond - Loves the sea (hangs out at the Docks) - Visits Port cities in search of new riddles - Awards XP for answering his riddles (XP +/- based upon difficulty of riddle) - Should be persistant - Limit the number of visits per player - Create an Inn (Skull Port) where he sits by the fireplace - Very rough place... but gets real quiet when tells a riddle - Fights break out between patrons arguing over ... |
| 5. | Re: Quest Suggestions Posted by IceFalcon on 8/3/2003 8:37:28 AM Your email box limit will be a big problem. I'll create a NWN website and post them there. When I have some material up I'll let you know. This will delay things a bit... I am also going through all my file archives and looking for things that would be easy to convert. Its difficult because many of the files are from 1st and 2nd edition and contain allot of typical AD&D stuff in them. I have stuff going back to 1979 so its going to take some time...

| 6. | Re: Farewell Friends. Posted by IceFalcon on 8/10/2003 2:27:21 PM Hey, did you try the toothpaste suggestion I made yesterday? Rub it against the grain using your fingers. Try to apply the same pressure throughout the process. Rinse and repeat once more. Give it a whorl and let me know...
Its an old trick that sometimes works, sometimes not. Depends of the depth of the scratches. |
| 7. | Re: Users with Satellite Connections Posted by icefalcon on 8/1/2003 2:59:30 PM There are a few ISP's that are satellite-based. DirecWay is one of the largest (and growing) and is a part of the DirecTV network. If you have DirecTV you can add DirecWay Internet access. Costs allot more then cable/DSL, and is mostly used by folks who can't get either cable or DSL, and where dial-up connections are really bad or not fast enough.
I have seen download speeds via satellite exceed T1 capacity. But since its a satellite connection, uploads have a 1-3 second delay. ... |
| 8. | Users with Satellite Connections Posted by icefalcon on 8/1/2003 11:47:36 AM I would like to hear from people who are on Satellite connections. General discussions on problems and tweaks necessary to improve the overall game play on Vives. Please chime in if you have something to contribute!

| 9. | Re: We Would Value Some Feedback! Posted by IceFalcon on 8/3/2003 8:42:01 AM ...and what about some plain old arrows at the Bowsmiths place in Minor? Nothing fancy, just plain arrows. Just seems odd that there arn't any normal ones to be found... |
| 10. | Re: We Would Value Some Feedback! Posted by icefalcon on 8/4/2003 12:03:52 PM [Slight complaint]
Play balance...
When/will there be more balanced play added?
I remember someone saying that new players should try to stick to Minor, and if traveling, stay on the roads. Here are some thoughts on that strategy...
- The thugs in Minor are pretty tough for even a 3rd level Ranger (not to mention without arrows) = Dead
- With very little equipment from the Merchants, and with most of it out of a low level players ability ... |
| 11. | Re: We Would Value Some Feedback! Posted by IceFalcon on 8/4/2003 4:38:34 PM ...and Landru... for venturing out and helping us poor, forever dying nice guys, I'm sending you a case of Oxy Clean to keep that nice dress of yours shiny white :)
Now, please find the Orc and make him put the Marsh danger sign back up!
(Sounds like a small quest if I ever heard of one...)
As for the ranging outward of characters by level, why not do what they did in Diablo/D2 and make all newbie characters start in the same (low level) town and as they ... |
| 12. | Re: We Would Value Some Feedback! Posted by IceFalcon on 8/5/2003 4:07:18 PM I wish I would get more XP's for killing nasties then XP's for walking into a new building in town... Gee, it was something to the tune of 30+ XP just for walking into the Church in Minor for the first time. I would have to kill just a touch over four Kobolds to equal the same amount of XP. I understand the desire for a focus on role playing, but the XP system just doesn't seem balanced.
Now, why don't PC's get good XP for using their abilities to overcome difficult situations, ... |
| 13. | Re: We Would Value Some Feedback! Posted by IceFalcon on 8/6/2003 3:49:35 PM ...my apologies. I'll be more careful with my humor when I post so that I don't ruffle so many "feather's" in the future.
[On Soapbox] Role playing can be expressed in many ways... in many forms, and not always in ways others might agree with. Please consider this... and everyone should remember that this is still just a game, so there's no need to get upset when viewing things differently then someone else. [Off Soapbox]

| 14. | Re: IMPORTANT: SoU Server Update Posted by icefalcon on 8/1/2003 12:03:35 PM While I am not a builder or an in-game DM, in my opinion you should break it into individual Hak's but keep it all together in one ZIP (or RAR, ACE, etc). The archives link on the homepage would always be the most current available as changes/problems are resolved. Name the file with a date in the file name so you can provide players (and the developers) an easier method of version verification and control.
Just some thoughts...
