IMPORTANT: SoU Server Update Posted: 12 Jul 2003 10:33 AM |
As I write this we are upgrading to Full SoU status on the server. This means that you will need Shadows of Undrentide installed to play on Vives and also a new (VERY small hak - only 65kb zipped) hak.
The hak is available here.
Everyone will need to DL this and unzip it into their NWN/Hak directory to be able to play.
Thanks folks

Also, the consolidated HAK installer has been updated to now include this new file. This link can be located on the front page of the website.

It appears the weight of some items has changed with this version.
I think the heal kits are heavier. They are now 0.5 and previously they were to 0.1. I believe they were reduced in weight in the past to encourage their use.
Is this increase in heal kit weight intentional?

I don't think it was Noggin. Rul did mention something about this... I imagine that whatever modification made in the hak to change the weight was undone by the recent update. I wonder if Ara or Aria might know where to look for this?

Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep this in mind working with the Hakpaks. And Q was right, as.. usual. This will likely be in the 2nd update tho, instead of the first, as I'm trying to get my head around porting things that I've made in 1.30 versions to the SoU version (now that it's quite stable)

There is a new HAK at this location:
http://vives.dyndns.org/vives/download/Vives_0.86bhak.zip
Aria and Ara will have more info on when it'll be required, but for now, it's ready to be downloaded.
Also, the consolidated HAK now includes this new HAK as well.

Re: IMPORTANT: SoU Server Update Posted: 15 Jul 2003 10:43 AM |
This will be needed for the next mod update, which is likely to occur in the next 24 hours. It basically "fixes" a few issues that became apparent with new SoU items, spell scrolls (not usable) etc. Also deals with the weight issue, portrait fixes and a number of other items.
However, one noticeable side-effect of this means the lil cute Hobbit holes now have great big, sod off barn doors instead of the little round ones, which kind of ruins their appearance. This is due to how the hornv8 hak was erm...... compiled, and a lot of conflicts arising from within that hak.
It is possible to fix, but this will (as of now) mean an edit to that hak and everyone having to re-download it over again (It's 56 meg even when zipped :P). However we have noticed there are community folk working on the issue, and it's highly likely we will be able to fix it with only a tiny hakupdate fairly shortly.
In short..... please don't bugreport the halfling doors, we're aware of the situation and are keeping abreast of it.
Thanks

Re: IMPORTANT: SoU Server Update Posted: 15 Jul 2003 01:15 PM |
Do we need to discuss the possibility of breaking up that huge horn hak into its components again? It seems to me that we have a fairly high degree of risk using that one huge file. If one piece of it (like the hobbit hole doors) is impacted by a Bioware update, the entire hak is in jeopardy. If it were in it's component parts again, would it be both easier to manage in terms of downloading a bite at a time (or my preferred method, One Big ZIP) and easier to maintain in the event of one component having an issue?
Anyway, just a thought. |

As much as I second that logic Merum, as far as I have heard that takes a high performance PC, and lots of time and third party resources to break up and work well...also meaning another hak or 2da. Personally I'd just like if we had one consolidated, bug free hak when we go live, as we don't need some of the things in anyways (Like the hills Hornv8 screwed up, which can be replaced with BETTER "Wayland" hills :D :D :D)

While I am not a builder or an in-game DM, in my opinion you should break it into individual Hak's but keep it all together in one ZIP (or RAR, ACE, etc). The archives link on the homepage would always be the most current available as changes/problems are resolved. Name the file with a date in the file name so you can provide players (and the developers) an easier method of version verification and control.
Just some thoughts...
