1.Re: Welcome New Folks!
Posted by Chiron on 7/31/2003 3:38:53 PM
Hello all,
I am yet another new player. I'm a little rusty with NWN as I have hardley played the game for the past few months. I was asked to join, so I thought I'ed resurect the cd's and show my face in here.
You all seem like a friendly crowd, so I look forward to seeing you all in game ;)

I don't think that the post was meant in that way... just a point of not to be silly if the "ten commandments" idea is implemented. I, personnally belive it to be a good idea, as long as it is kept brief and to the point.

3.Re: The XP Catch-22

I have to agree, I never go out to level eny more with my barbarian character. I find it has very little point when I compare the XP I gain to that which I could loose. Instead, I tend to just mill around, join parties or just talk to people. It's the only way I've found to get any sort of progression into my character as going out and killing stuff is either pointless (less than 10XP per creature) or too dangerous (get killed).
4.Something that needs to be said

Most of the people reading this post will have never seen me post before, so even seen me in game; even if they have, then it has only been for only very short periods of time. I run a very busy lifestyle, and so do not have as much time to spend interacting with the Vives community as I would like. I do however still care for the community and am in close contact with several of the members. Because of this, I am kept fairly up to date on the latest polictics of the server. A number of issues ...

I'm not saying that there are large amounts of greifing going on in Vives, quite the oposite. However, when griefing does occur, people probably feel that they do not know where to complain... or even if they have the right to complain. Not all griefing is even done with the players knowledge... sneaking around a group of players and steeling their look while they can't see you for instance.

Another point I wish to make clear is that I am making no points at all with reference to ...

This was not meant as a personnal attack, so please do not treat it as such. I agree that if the rogue is there, then they may take the opportunity. However, I believe it to be shear politeness from the player not to follow the group through an entire dungeon and steal ALL of their rewards, also, if the rogues have any sence, then they might not always follow the group down without their presence being known incase they are either seperated, or if the group gets killed leaving the rogue ...

When I started this thread, I meant for it to be just "Something that needed to be said" and nothing more. Peoples reactions are suggesting that they think I believe that this sort of thing is happening all over Vives, when I have mentioned that I feel it does not.

The main point of this thread was to hopefully encourage fair play amongst all members of Vives, to remind people of the rules and hopefully to make players and DM's more vigilent when enforcing them. That was ...

Phoenix Flamehart here. Not Chiron ;P Oh the joys of sharing PC's.

Personally, I think that people start off in entirely the wrong place in Vives. Everyone hangs around in Midor. People start at the Four Winds Inn, which is a dang hard pace to find Midor from for someone who doesn't know their way around. Perhaps detailed signs of how to reach there, maybe?

Welcome to the wonderful land of Vives. I can only hope that you not only enjoy it as much as I, but also have more time than I to play it!

See ya in game

How about brummy? It's just as hard to understand as cockney rhyming slang, but it still uses the correct words
If you want an example, Pheonix_F would be able to do it much better than I.

Phoenix F again! Hah, I love sharing PC's. Especially when one is 3 times more powerful than your own.

Colour: (o_O You're asking me to choose!? I switch colours depending on the time of the month :P) At the moment: Sky blue, Eternity, thoughtful, dreaming.
Animal: Cat. Intelligent, independent, self-centred. (that sounds too familiar for my liking...)
Water: Thunderstorm. Cleansing, wild, refreshing.

I have to admit that the last rant was a good one... but I do have a few comments about it... mainly about point 4 (as I agree to all other points). A fighter class is NOT the easiest class to play! This is simply because I believe that there is no "easiest class". It is possible to put just as much imagination into a character, and just as much work into a figther as it is into any other class and have a character which is equally difficult to play.

I do agree that fighter ...

I'm loving the mod so far... but there is one thing that I feel the place needs. Healing kits and potions. There seems to be a distinct lack of both items throughout Vives. Would it be possible to incorperate them into a small merchant within the infirmary perhaps? Or, if there is already a place where a kit or potion could be obtained, would you be kind enough to be a spoiler and tell me its location?

Thanks

um... I went there and found that they only sold potions of lesser resturation and a potion on anitdote. I couldn't find any healing kits or potions

PLaying my character (Woman), I do find this to be a major problem. In most places, I either get less than 10XP for each monster which means I have to kill about 70 of them to match the above 3 DC 38 locks for 700 XP. The only places I can come to match this, where I get 100+XP for each monster, I get cut down by the second or third without having a chance to turn and run.
This means that I have just lost the extra experience I have just earned with the 5% XP loss.
For example... ...

rather than changing the XP... why not try adding more low level creatures or reduce the number of mid-range creatures so that they are killed more easily?

Changing the XP a small amount might work... but change it too much and you'll get all the classes turning to killing for XP

How about even reducing the XP recieved for none battle skills, lock picking for example?

Hack and slash are the trademarks or the warrior classes... but you can't risking making it ...
