DM's in Vives Posted: 12 Jun 2003 04:31 PM |
We have a number of DM's at this time in vives, however those DM's also tend to be builders/scripters and are, at this time, buried deep in the toolset, here's how you can help.......
However as we are soon to be going public, these DM's will become even more active in running Quests etc in game. They will have full autonomy in this respect.
With that said, we are aiming for a high DM to player ratio around the clock. So...... if you think you have what it takes then please respond below and we shall set up a time to get you in game as a DM and for us to look at you and vice versa to see if you and we fit.
Experience is not necessary, what we are looking for is creativity and good RP abilities, as we envisage our DM's being actively involved with Quest giving and not mere policing.
If you want to try out then post below, then we can set up a time to go in game and test it out.
Thanks
Arathon

| Sounds good to me... I'd really like to be part of an active world, but honestly don't have the energy or time to create an entire one fresh, so this seems a perfect way to go. |

As soon as we move to SoU and have sorted out the issues with the 1.30 and 1.31 patches etc we'll be looking for more DM's and will of course have you good folks in mind :)
So please bear with us for a little longer.
Thanks

| I would like to give it a go. I am also very interested in being an "in game DM". The thought of running a quest from a party member's postiion could be really cool! |

I'd certainly be glad to give it a try, once I've settled into Vives Seeing I'm from the UK, I can DM short quests for the European/UK side of the guild until poor Arathon is freed up from the pressures of debugging I've DMed before, so I know roughly how to work things - that, and I have an eccentric little character lined up already :P |

As of this time in our beta stage, the DM crew is not currently looking for people within the european or USA timezones, as we now have a strong enough force that we feel helps the needs of both players and admins, with as strong a force as we can manage. When this changes, we the staff will come to you about DM status and available openings within the admins when the time is right :)
~Fenarisk
*EDIT* As an aside, this topic is also quite old, from a time when we had the needs that have been filled, but you as I said, we will tell you all when the time arises again to fill more slots

errm.. I think more DMs in the european timzone will be pretty good thing... altough it means there wont be any players ;)
but well, I guess after things sorted up and there will be more players there can be more DMs as well, aye?

I personally do feel that more European timed DM's are needed I gotta say, Dens, that you've been a great DM when you're on - I've watched you lurking away in mIRC waiting for a decent number of people to DM with ;)
But isn't Dens the only European DM, bar Arathon? And well, don't those two need sometime to actually be a PC sometime? ;) |

With Fen now not being available to DM, and myself spending the vast majority of my time in the toolset, Aria and others too........
Then it's something we need to look at.
So I'll be bringing up this topic with the other admins etc in irc asap.
Cheers

Re: DM's in Vives Posted: 18 Aug 2003 01:16 PM |
I am from the Euro regions too.
Only problem for me, is me being preoccupied with excavating 9 hours a day. It sorta drains a lot of energy. Aside the work I have other obligations as well to RL, especially related to my study, as I am chairman of a board which has to provide our faculty with study related events.
Hence my absence lately. Just so much to arrange, not much time to play. Which does not mean I lost interest. On the contrary.
But as Ara said, it will be discussed. Since, and sorry to sound pessimistic :p, every mod might look for different qualities in a DM. That is not to say I find anyone who was interested in DM'ing, unfit, just a neutral piece of info. IMHO, playing on the world and developing your chars and as a player work on plots is the best way to show how you would treat game plots and story lines. This would help the mod enormously and also give a very positive signal to the vives staff.
Naturally, some people have been doing this for a while. Drawbacks of DM'ing btw is not being able to develop PC"s that much, since you have the ability and privilige to play key char NPC's supporting self-invented plots. So you are mostly always Rp'ing for other people's enjoyment. For some it would be quite the sacrifice. And dont forget we need a stable playerbase as well. Need to find a balance at all times. As the players increase... naturally so will the amount of DM's.
End rant

I'll throw my hat into the DM ring. I work from home so I can DM during the U.S. daylight (Europe evening) hours. Just let me know if I can be of assistance.

I agree with you there. The only problem is, that some people might not be able to go on Vives at the times that the 'talent scouts' are on. Most people from the UK, for example, are not going to be at 9pm EST (i.e, 2am GMT) when they have work the next day. Which would make judging the potential DM's qualities through their characters difficult.

I can understand why people see RPing for other's enjoyment as a sacrifice. After all, it's less time spent on their character, and their efforts to make an impact in Vives. But I don't see it that way. If I love RPing anyway, then it can mean so much more to make people have a good time while you're doing it. Also, I've never had a problem balancing DMing with PC development. If anything, I see DMing as merely a different form of RPing. Rather than being a player affecting the world, you're the world affecting the player, keeping them hooked and interested |

Well.. there are DMs that watch you play at GMT time... right now I duno about 'scouting' but you can be sure that there will be 'scouts' at european time zone..
