*Idea Corner* Thar be monsters here! Posted: 13 Jan 2004 07:13 PM |
*Lighbulb goes off Fen's head*
So I had a thought today going around, testing some of the new low level areas IG with a new low level character. Seems while I wandered around, my dwarfy feet plodding along, my eyes (and backside) came upon some nice ants at the top of the hill near the 4 winds. Not just any ants, but the ones labeled "Soldier"...ya know, the ones meant for level 4-5 people, and usually not solo. The ones that chased my poor dwarfy around til a kind player showed up to slay them (Good bit of luck there). Seeing that it doesn't happen often, I wandered off elsewhere, to the PR outskirts...where upon transitioning 3 moon rats all ganked me, killing me quick with not only normal attacks but all 3 getting AoO's on me.
Sooo...I had an idear! For those people that simply love to run and "train" the monsters to area transitions, why not add a little function to the widget we have (Yeah, the all-in-one widget is coming soon I hear). One that plops down a little placard where the person is at, saying "Warning, danger/monsters ahead!". This way some poor noob doesn't stumble into a usually innonenct area and be killed by a hoard of nasty buggers about 3 levels higher.
Ideas? Comments? Constructive Criticism?

| You mean this only just now happened you? *amused look, remembering Crimson Deaths in Buckshire Trading Post, Roniin in Buckshire, seven or eight goblins right at the door of Mirghul Woods, two or three ettins right at the door of Midor Deep Woods, orcs in Elbereth's Tears, wolves in the Great Plains ....* |
Dieties preserve us from the evil chaotics named Lag, Crash, and Server Reset. PCs: Loli Dankirk (Ftr 18/Brd 8.5 @ 1777 hrs) left Vives for Origins; Gnora Gnombody (Sor 5 @ 54 hrs) and Amanda Stark (Wiz 3 @ ~10 hrs) left Vives for Feline Providence. |

| Weird ...whenever I try to run from monsters they take the shortcut and are waiting on the otherside of the transition, where they then proceed to pummel me unmercilessly. |
I do what the voices in my head tell me too. |

| Well speaking of Ants, some day ago Rognita was hunting Ants when the Queen got mad and killed her. I then choose to respawn and know what, she's back in the middle of elfs in Ferein, now that got me mad since *spoiler* the trolls in Slyvian trail (?) cant be killed without fire or acid enchantement right? Well, thank Coruva for helping me, got caught there for 2 RL days eheh ;) |

| Trolls can be killed without fire or acid. TECHNICALLY I think they're supposed to be unable to regenerate wounds caused by fire or acid damage, but I'm unsure if this is the case in NWN. In any case, once they're dead they never come back, unlike the Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale series where they'd regenerate even from death. |

I like the idea of being able to put down a warning sign.

| I had this idea last night as I was playing some random platform game. Open gang warfare in some of the unruly cities. A third party. People could be waylaid by NPCs, people could become allies with one faction, people might go in parties through the city, etc. Just a thought. |

That, with a lil tweaking, could make for some very interesting RP |

It would be fun, but the city should be (More or less) "avoidable" as well. For those characters who wish to avoid such things. It shouldn't be the only way to get to a load of areas. IMHO.

| Indeed, with work, it could work. Also, can we use the HotU Static Sky? That would be cool if it didn't take much effort. |

All considered, all takes a bit of time, and all in due time once we fix some of the worse HotU mishaps (Like messed up 2das, crucified gnolls, etc)
