New Gaming Group Posted: 28 Nov 2003 02:53 PM |
This is a Stormking. My character's name is Malphazien Kith-Ramere, an Elf Bard.
I am assembling perhaps 2-4 other players to join me in Vives on Saturday November 29th.
I am trying to make it an experience they will enjoy. I wish I could know if a DM will be handy to create a story for us to live out.
If not, I wish to hire someone who merely wishes to Roleplay as a serving person in one of the bars in Midor, where we would assemble and sit as a group at a table or in some chairs. This person would pretend to take order requests while gossipping about town events, creating a mood of adventure. If you know of a good starting quest, like that Kobolds with fire arrows place, you could introduce going there. Then, you could go and buy rations and drinks, with money I will pre-provide you, and return. For this service, I am willing (as my character is only 2nd level and has little gold) to pay you $200 gold. It should more be about who's willing to enjoy the Roleplaying experience itself, not the poor reward as I can offer no more.
I don't know when we will start, or what time we'll be in Midor, or what bar yet, but I will get that all worked out by tonight, Friday the 28th and post it again tonight. Thanks to anyone who sees and responds to my request to build adventure.
Not meant to supercede any DM interaction. If you're a DM and you want to help, YES YES YES is what I say. Thanks again.

I think some DM interaction can be arranged :)
I assume the average level of the group to be Level 2? Also, please indicate the time and the time zone you wish this to be conducted. |

Re: New Gaming Group Posted: 28 Nov 2003 03:44 PM |
--Sorry, I forgot to post these details. It would be played on Pacific Standard Time. It is possible that if the game starts early enough, say noonish, it could run until 6 pm PST or even 8 if there was enough to keep us busy that long.
Another idea I have for this "serving person" is that, whoever wants to do this would throw out tidbits about "I wish I could adventure again" kind of theme... It could become known through subtle hints (but let my players think of it on their own, please don't be obvious) that you wish to actually go with us instead of stay and serve drinks in a bar. That you're ... only doing this job to make enough money to buy yourself a weapon (or whatever your class needs to battle), as you were mugged on the road to Midor and lost everything you owned. The guards even had to volunteer the clothes for you to wear because they couldn't have you strolling through town naked! (You, of course, don't have to mention the payment from me when saying you are completely broke, this is only to enhance roleplaying for the group I (might be) bringing.)
That way we could even add one more person to our group, too, which would be great, and give the person volunteering for this Roleplay assignment a chance to actually become involved. Even MORE fun!
My reasonings for all of this are selfish, to be honest. I want my friends to like playing here so they will want to return. I like all of the extras, like camping, and and low EXP gains for extended time at lower levels. As we all learn Vives, the system, and the way things work, we will gradually need to replace all the of time learning things with more roleplay and more adventure. I started to feel the real feeling of playing D&D for the first time ever playing in Vives, and I hope that feeling can continue and grow only more true as time goes by.
And if my friends don't make it to Vives with me this weekend, then I'll probably meet one or some of you there in Midor near where the ship drops you off South of the city. I'll be looking for 2-3 people to find some adventure with, in a case of that kind. See you there.
Later! |

6 Pacific Standard Time... ouch, that's 3 am for me. I hope one of our US DM's can attend. And that you will indeed provide your friends with a lasting impression .

Re: New Gaming Group Posted: 29 Nov 2003 05:03 AM |
Okay, so far, I've only been able to pin down 1 player beside myself. But, if the chips fall right, it could be as many as 5.
I still don't know what time yet due to poor communication skills on my part, I imagine. Hope to be able to know what time we will start by some time in the morning, PST. I will log onto IRC and discuss what can be done around that time.
Do I have any takers yet on playing the "serving person?" while I roleplay a bardish intro out? Still curious....
Thanks |

If I'm on the server at the time you start (I'll be playing as Fri'el Skygem if I am), send me an OOC tell and I could log in as one of my low lvls and be "working in a bar" or something, and thus be able to fill the "serving person" role.

[Edit: I say "if" because I'm GMT, and so if it starts evening or later afternoon PST, I more than likely won't be online.] |

Re: New Gaming Group Posted: 29 Nov 2003 01:59 PM |
Well, I just confirmation that it may not happen today. It's gone from being a nearly solid thing to someone else's whim, whatever time THEY deem and they won't tell me exactly, so no set time. I can't arrange anything if people won't be clear about when the game is supposed to start. So forget it!
I have never yet been able to gather a mass of friends together in ANY kind of multiplayer game for any reason, at any time, no matter how hard I try. The gaming world is set against me, I'm cursed. And I'm tired of fighting this.
I'm disheartened, and I'm gonna go play the single player game again and just forget it.
PLEASE: I just realized my players can view this forum just as easily as the next person, and could possibly stumble upon this, making it a SPOILER for them. Since the game isn't gonna happen now, as usual, could the owner of this board please delete this entire thread and maybe just leave a note that it was deleted due to possibly spoilers for my players in case someone who was interested stops by and wonders what's going on?
Thanks.
Later. |

StormKing, this is your group. Put your foot down and choose a time. If players don't like it, they can just miss out.
Believe me, because I say this from experience. Try to please everybody, and you please nobody at all, including yourself. Create things on your own terms and let others deal with it. |

Re: New Gaming Group Posted: 29 Nov 2003 06:59 PM |
| Dont worry about Spolers or anything. You not sopposed to take knowledge you learned from the boards into the game anyway. If you want to use the boards to organize a time for you and some others to meet then that is AOK. Also it makes things a whole lot easier if you just pick a time and say "everyone come then". If someone random person comes around saying something like "I want to go with you to *****, group me too". Just look confused and say i dont know what your talking about (people tend to get the message about metagaming if you dont lettem). |

Re: New Gaming Group Posted: 29 Nov 2003 10:37 PM |
Hades, I appreciate what you tried to say, but I believe you've misconstrued my meaning.
I was just saying my friends might have gotten disappointed in the real world that I was trying to set stuff up in the game instead of letting the game do it on its own. See, the coolness of Vives should come from the coolness of Vives, but I guess I was afraid because I spent 8 hours running around and only fought 2 monsters, that they would think it was boring. SO I was attempting to build some value into the game from my end by creating an introduction to Vives via some collaboration with other Vives players. Why? Why do that here?
I couldn't FIND ANYONE in Vives! It was too empty! Only NPC's!
So I came here to pre-arrange it so I WOULD meet people there. That's all.
It had nothing to do with OOC interactions as you suggested. Again, thanks, though, you were trying to help and I appreciate it.
Hope to see you in there sometime.
PS: Please don't let your Kitty end me. Please? |

| Tell you what you can do. You can write a note just as you would in game. Make sure that you stay IC and post that on the roleplaying forum. Pick and Jessup did that to promote their "Suicide tours" so i dont see why you cant promote an adventure. If you take special care to keep it all IC you should have no problem. |
