HORRIBLE RUMORS

| Those that travel the cold lands have heard sickening rumors that the bodies of three children were found not far from Icy Vale. Details are not exact but those telling the tales say that the eyes, tongue and ears of the children were taken. The bodies of the children were mutilated in such a manner that they have not been identified as of yet. Icy Vale has responded by sending out more patrols. Caution is now taken by those that travel in and around the north lands. |

Recent rumblings from Icy Vale have revealed that one of the children murdered was a 11 year old girl by the name of Millie Renthern, daughter of Kale and Yana Renthern. Millie was last seen near the Hot Springs before vanishing. Her body along with two others yet to be identified were found huddled together underneath a tree.
With his militia stretched thin as it is due to the snow orc assaults, Sergeat Welter of the Icy Vale militia seeks aid from any willing to offer. Many have inquired already though nothing has turned up as of yet. Kale and Yana Renthern have gone into seclusion and have yet to announce any funeral services. |

More ill news travels from the cold lands. Two young brothers have vanished from their home. Quin and Galen Anders disappeared from the very beds they were sleeping in last night. The mother of the two boys has asked for any aid in finding the boys. A few of folk of the Vale have stepped forward to try and locate them.
Sergeant Welter has bolstered his patrols wtihin the town itself but fears that he does not have the manpower to pursue the disappearence. The snow orcs have been threatening all investigators who travel the surrounding canyons and mountains. A curfew is being discussed now for all folk though no such action has yet been taken. |

Reports are now surfacing that the bodies of the twins Quin and Galen Anders were found underneath a tree in Whipsnade Pass late last night by a travelling paladin by the name of Markus. The same tell tale signs were present with these bodies. Eyes were missing, ears cut off as well as the tongues from both the small boys. Sergeant Welter has increased his patrols through out the cold lands despite the recent surge of the snow orcs. A curfew has been put in place by the good Sergeant in hopes of stemming the killings.
Early investigations on these murders have turned up very little. All that is certain is that this killer has chosen to keep the Vale as his prime target. Extreme caution is needed when travelling these lands. |

Two mages entered Icy Vale yesterday in the dead of night: an Elven woman with a badly-mauled bearded mage in tow, held aloft by invisible forces. Sergeant Welter escorted them to the Icy Vale Hot Springs, where the bearded mage is on his way to recovery.
It is unknown at this time whether this has any connection to the murders. There is speculation that the bearded mage, Bereil, was very nearly another victim and his life was saved by the intervention of his Elven apprentice. |

He couldn't see, not very well, the world was a blur. He was lying on a bed with four people standing around the bedside. They were thickly dressed he reasoned, and that would be because they are all still in Icy Vale. One of the four held a large bottle in his or her hand, occasionally taking a pull, and then passing the bottle on to the next person. Bereil's shoulder itched as if a thousand ants were crawling on it, the remainder of him felt numb. Body numbing herbs, he realized.
“He's awake!” One of the people whispered with revealed excitement. A hushed hubbub of voices sank into Bereil's ears.
“Did you see it?” “Was it the demon that's been stalking the Vale?” “What happened?”
Bereil's awareness took a leap. His mind focused and cleared like the morning dew evaporating to the morning sun.
“Ye wish to hear my tale? The powers that be unleashed in an epic duel amongst the greats?” his voice a rasp, still raw from his cries before blanking out. He waited precious moments, allowing his questions to sink back into the minds of his visitors.

As he was want to do at times Bereil decided to spend some time in the open cool airs near the Vale to practice, and perfect his art. The art of magic. This day he was working on the spell 'Summon Amaranth', a powerful spell designed to battle synspawn. First tested in Brandibuck during a certain incursion. As he weaved his way through the snow, enjoying his own company and that of the pine trees something caught his attention.
Wizards are renown for their attention to written details, as everybody knows, and often this translates to such details in their environment. Bereil saw something dark, black, and conspicuously evil lurking at the edge of the Wyrmheart River. He approached this evil presence with caution, weaving protective spells as he approached. There was no possible way he could turn away as he spotted the Evil, such is the power of a wizard's curiosity.
Suddenly the Evil turned around! Somehow it had noticed the wizard creeping up on it. Bereil quickly identified it now that it was facing him: a black devil! One of the wiliest, cruelest, stealthiest devils in Nethar'u. It is not much larger than a man, but entirely black, with slimy scales instead of skin. Thorns cover its limbs, and it has over a hundred teeth in its mouth! Within this black devil's hands were two fiery swords that could only have been gifted by that evil witch Goddess, Naruth.
The devil did not roar its challenge, and Bereil had no common words for it either. Without behest the devil charged at the still-preparing wizard. A quick spell flung from Bereil's staff deflected the devil off its course. Those precious seconds gave him the time to send a barrage of missiles, and bring down a rain of hail onto the devil. The missiles struck its flesh leaving many little smoldering craters, and the hail pummeled the black devil.
With its unholy abilities the devil struck back! Twin fiery swords flashing, swinging, slashing, and carving through the air in a fantastic show of swordsmanship. It cut through the protective barriers surrounding Bereil, and cut his hand. The mage backpedaled pulling out a fox skull to cast a singularly potent spell.
A Wizard uses both hands acting as one, the other hand pulled out the still beating heart of a wyvern. He uttered the incantation, and placed the heart within the fox skull to summon the spirit of the river.
“Wait, if the devil cut your hand why is your whole arm bandaged?”
As Bereil completed the spell the devil struck again, the wizard could do little but use his already injured hand in defense. The fiery blade cut, burned, and scorched his arm, and nearly cut it in two.
For the devil though it was too late, the fox spirit had been summoned. Seeing the fox spirit the black devil fled with uncanny speed!
Just then his former apprentice Shihaya'zad arrived, never too far from his side, and right on time too. For the mage was tired from his exerted efforts, and bleeding. Fortune favored him, his former apprentice carried him back to Icy Vale to recover from the battle.

Lacking the use of a second arm, and numb on medicinal herbs Bereil couldn't communicate the vast intricacies of what had happened. He tried to explain it so, but at that moment Shadriel interrupted, and had the curious listeners vacate the premise. The civilians returned to the Icy Vale Inn, empty bottle in hand, with a story to tell. |

There is new word from the Vale that yet another chld has been taken. Trina Hashem has vanished from her own home early this morning. The investigation has not yeilded much as the heavy snowfall has left little in the form of tracks. Sergeant Welter has cried out once again for aid in this matter as it appears the culprit has found a way to infiltrate the town and go unnoticed.
Many families of the Vale have chosen to leave the town due to the repeated kidnappings. The Vale town council is duing its best to reassure the citizens on the matter but have little to show for the efforts of invsetigations.
