Where's the Hype?! Posted: 09 Apr 2008 03:19 PM |
Well the first quarter of '08 is in the books...
Haven't heard (seen) much chatter about the V2 lately; let's change that! :)
Has anyone started thinking about what they will be doing in the new lands? Has Q established a new website for V2? Is anyone else chomping at the bit to roll that new character?
I bet you guys and gals are just as eager to see what the staff have been slaving over!
Let's here some rally cries, pump some sunshine, and for god's sake let's get this party started folks! |

| Finally bought NWN 2 after hearing Vives 2 is nearly ready. Just got the package in the mail today and I'm loading it up now. Figure this'll give me a chance to get a feel for things before Vives 2 rolls out .... though if it started today that'd be fine with me too. |

Has Q established a new website for V2?
The good news is that Q has been getting a lot of work (yay, Q!). The bad news is that he hasn't had time to do any website work for Vives.
The good news is WickedArtist has been powerlevelling in Geek (powergamer!) and has been working on it instead.
For any geeks out there that are interested in knowing the details, we will be using JForum, XWiki, NWNX and some custom scripting to tie it all together and add our own functionality. |

| Woohoo for Geek levels WA! I guess I need to work my nerd levels though. My computer runs NWN 2 - just really poorly. So time for some upgrades. Hopefully I'll be set for V2 when its ready though. |

| Despite my predictions of never playing NWN2 I'm going to be getting a new machine in the near future, which will be capable of running the latest Mac OS (yeeeeeeeeee-haw!), and, I believe, NWN2 as well. So, I'm there. Still kind of in love with my Vives 1 characters, so all this is bittersweet. |

Any of the latest Macs will run NWN2.
1. Use Boot Camp. Don't try to run it in Parallels. NWN2 is painful enough without trying to run it in a VM.
2. Make sure you set up your Windows partition before you install anything else.
When Leopard says it needs <x> amount of disk space, it means contiguous disk space. If you have large files installed (eg. any virtual machines, Final Cut Pro, large video files, or any large files whatsoever) it may prevent you from creating your Boot Camp partition, which may in turn require you to defrag your hard drive or delete big files (and then defrag your hard drive) before installing Boot Camp.
So the moral of the story is: before you touch anything on your shiny new Mac, set up Boot Camp first, before you clutter up your hard disk with big files.
3. Be prepared to gnash your teeth in frustration at Leopard. It tries to turn OS X into Vista. It introduces many of the same awful tacky visuals and annoying prompts ("Are you sure? You tried to do something insecure, are you VERY sure? Are you very very very SURE? You are a moron for pressing that button and saying you were sure, you should have just left it alone, now all the cake is gone!"). |

The Cake is gone! But there is no Cake!
"It shows me, where I'm going, and where, to throw, my cake. *clap clap clap clap clap*"
You know I was 100% expecting some promise release on the 1st this year, I think this is the first Fool's day when we didn't all behave fooooolishly.
As for all my geek points, I've been min maxing in music, and I'm going to have to wait for a few levels to progress beyond cell expression formulas in microsoft access for online table generation. Visual Basic here I come! (You know, I always thought I'd grab C before Visual Basic. But then again, I might have no idea what I'm talking about right now.) |

Just to make sure:
1: You need a Mac with an Intel processor, no used Pre-Intel Mac will be able to run it.
2. Forget the Macbook (non-Pro) or Mac Mini, those will not be able to run it.
3. Forget the native Mac version of NWN2, use Bootcamp (sad but true, Mac gaming is 99% dead). The Mac version will run on even less systems than the Windows version.
4. Even with all that, expect a lot of trouble. Multiplayer is a major pain and requires a lot of geek levels.
Just thought I'd tell you before you get too excited. ;) |

Thanks for the advice Fictrix! And the warnings.
Back to the hype!!
I'm made to wonder... will we basically be testing Vives 2? Do NWN servers get tested at all? |

| There will be closed testing before Vives 2 is released, to iron out bugs and do general playtesting/balancing. |

Woohoo! Good to see there are still some folks alive out there that Fictrix hasnt permakilled yet!
So what is the anticipated order of release?
I would guess:
1. Website (Forums, lore, rules, etc.)
2. Private testing of mod (DMs, builders, and selected players)
3. Public beta testing of mod (Anyone with NWN2 and an approved application)
Hope to see ya'll IG soon! :)
Edit: Thanks for the scoop Fictrix and props to WA for taking on the new site development (nerd)!! j/k. Looking forward to checking it out! :P |

Fictrix grossly overestimates my contribution to the website, and further twists the truth in implying I have a slight clue of what I'm doing.
If a computer anomaly escaped to the internet and takes over the known world, put me on the list of suspects and thank me later when the afore-mentioned anomaly boosts us years and decades ahead of time and into the stars (that's when it causes the sun to explode, by no means am I implying space travel or other such inane nonsense that the afore-mentioned anomaly will have no interest in conducting). |

No you wouldn't, Tas.
The date is always the same: when it is ready. Am I right? |
