"What are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about dying."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means lying in the ground with dirt on your face and holding your breath forever."

These commodities have come in from unexpected places. Iron generously drawn into wire by Talion Deraith. Mahogany wood cut from the Griffin's Landing by Tristian Vike. Bronze ingots from Daimon Rabianara's back inventory, and a special hammer for thinning the metal into sheets. That was Daimon's advice about bronzing: dip the item if it is durable, or apply the metal in leaf, the way gilding is applied by a calligrapher. Every wizard has their own calligraphic style, and any who have inscribed the most powerful magics onto parchment have used gold leaf. Even though the object of Salt's veneration would withstand a bath in molten bronze, he thought a cold bronzing would be more elegant.
More than making work for eager adventurers, Salt's advertisements had underscored his existing networks, the persons he sometimes did things for and who sometimes - really quite a bit more often - went out of their way to do things for him.
He was now getting very close to starting his project.
As each of these commodities came in, a very serious looking bespectacled halfling went around to the boards where Salt's want-ads were posted, carrying a pot of ink in one of his hands. Using a straight edge and a quill pen, he lined out the items that were no longer necessary, and blew on the ink with even breaths until it was dried. |
