Tasra beat me back, but boot camp is short and easy.. everyone knows that. They have big fluffy beds and ninja turtle wallpaper...
Unlike a submarine, where REAL sailors go. It's nothing but steel and turmaline down there. 3 months of underwater hell. Hoo-yah!

Grey, who ever said I was a real sailor anyways? I'm in Corpsman school, and everyone knows we're on our Own Freaking Program. And, I saw what you said last night about wanting to go to the sandbox. Not gonna happen for a missle tech like you, but for me, it's practically gaurunteed! "Want to go FMSS?" "Not really, no..." "Great! Pendleton or Lejume?" ;)
(Of course, the Navy being the organized and punctual thing that it is, I quite literally hear every different rumor conceivable and as such have simply given up on trying to guess what my orders will ultimately be. It seems as if these things change from day to day around here.) |

Actually, I can fill out a package to go over seas.. so nya *sticks out tongue*
The CNO has this whole fighting sailor concept thing, so they like seeing us go over there. Gives us more of a place in the "War on Terrorism". Earning my ribbons, I guess.. O.o
Any sailor who's qualified a weapon can get shipped over there at any time. Had an instructor in c-school get orders to go. It's just rarer for tech rates to get shipped off like that, normally you'd have to put in a package.
There's a neat trick, anyway. Combat zones are tax free. Go reenlist in one. ;)
One guy off my boat got his full 47k for doing that. 47 thousand dollars, tax free, just for spending 9 months over there. Well.. and forfetting 4 more years of his life. Not a terrible price to pay, if it means you get to go to shore duty afterwards. I don't plan on staying in the full 20, but I may very well do 10.. just enough to spend a few years on shore duty. |
