I'm with you on that one. Holy cow!! If it's as gritty and dark as the trailer suggests, it'll definitely be in my library.

It's linked heavily with Frank Miller's Sin City of course, and filmed in the same way (all on green screen with hbackdrops put in digitally) so I'm pretty sure it'll be quite gritty and dark :D

Bit of a tangent, but Pan's Labyrinth is well worth the price of admission and about as graphic as a Tarantino movie.

I am -so- there for 300.

I can't wait to see 300 myself. Thermopoli (I spellt that phoenetically, since I'm not going to be arsed to look it up at this instant) should've been made into a movie LONG ago.

*Scratches head* Looks like a hammy sand-and-sandals 60s movie, but dressed up with modern graphics and that oh-so-overused popular "arthouse" palette to me. And the acting (or lack thereof) in the trailer... ugh.

I think I'll pass.

Ficcy, you are my hero. :)

I've got no qualms with anyone who is excited about this movie. There'll be a lot of eye candy and testosterone. Frankly, the trailers make me strongly suspect that there'll be as much melodrama as there is CG, all at the expense of heart and soul. Over the top, through the roof, and into the stratosphere of excess.

But I'm an old fogey. Don't mind me. Everyone else...get excited. It's fun to be excited.

I'll just watch Donnie Darko again.

Been waiting for this movie for months now. Looks amazing.

Am I the only one who's actually read the graphic novel itself?

Believe it or not, I haven't. Something I've planned on watching for a long time. I'll get that on my Netflix right now. Really that worth it, huh? I had always kind of suspected it was just the deleted scenes from the original DVD special features edited back in.

And Paul, the whole sheriff thing is fine...bring the hat and boots, but this time...could you please leave the spurs at home?

*Gulp* Apologizes. I really don't wish to offend. Honestly, and admittedly I could be totally off-base, but I thought innuendo absent of any vulgarity or specific reference was considered PG-13.

I'm not offended, I'm just annoyed when people keep yelling about keeping things PG13 on IRCTongue out I understand why, but let's keep things equal between the forums and IRC. If nothing else, IRC should be less strict than the forums, since the only official records are on the people's hard drives who were actually there.

Sounds like somebody had their pinkies smacked and is a little miffy *sniffs* Anyway back to the topic of this thread. I didn't know 300 was a graphic novel! any more info available? I would say if it is a graphic novel, then maybe the cgi and stuff would suit it a lot better than what I thought the movie was about :)

Another smash hit by Frank Miller. You can probably find it on Amazon.com.

Personally, I loved those old movies with the claymation monsters. Ulyses (sp?), Hercules, etc. Those were dang entertaining movies. Seeing one that's far more graphic and up to date? I'm there! I'd like to see another movie like Gladiator in a Roman-Era setting. *Daydreams*

No sweat, Tasra. Tell you what, I'll either tone down to a 'G' rating here, or I'll go on IRC and spice things up a little. I'm easy. ;)

I would say if it is a graphic novel, then maybe the cgi and stuff would suit it a lot better than what I thought the movie was about :)

I'm with you there. CGI is depended on way to much in other genres, but it works for this kind of movie. Made for it, really.

And I respect the style of Sin City. I used to be a comic book buff. The look was incredible. For my own part, I just didn't like the pornography of violence as I saw it. I love violence. I love gore. I've seen far more graphic, far more bloody than Sin City, yet I left Sin City feeling dirty, and I never felt dirty after a good B-movie gorefest. Wish I could tell you what the difference is, because at face level, doesn't seem to be one. But there was for me.

I suspect the same with 300, but who knows? I'll rent it. I'll watch it. I'll give it it's chance.

Yeah, it's based on the comics by Frank Miller, says so in the trailers too. I really enjoyed the comics. Frank Miller did some stunning work, it's actually quite spectacular. And just from the trailers and promos I've seen of the movie, I'd say Zack Snyder (the director) got the look and feel of the comics perfectly. Many of the shots were identical to the comics, so I'd say they're actually using them as the storyboards.

It's obvious Miller had done some pretty extensive research, but he did take a lot of liberty with the story (such as making Ephialtes a hunchback and Xerxes a bald black man with about ten thousand piercings). Don't expect a documentary, it in no way claims to be historically accurate ;] They're very well done though. I think if the movie's par with the graphic novel, I'll be happy.
