New Players and Registrations Posted: 15 Oct 2003 02:36 PM |
I thought it would be fair to "warn" folks about certain things when new to Vives, specifically around registering and the application process.
The four hour trial period is EXACTLY that, not only do we take into account your actual registration form, but also how you act in game...... we log everything during this period, including Tells, DM Messages etc and WILL refer to them when making our decision.
So please do think long and hard about whether Vives is what you are looking for. Although if you have taken it as far as application stage I'm sure it probably will be :D
The registration form is simply there to keep out powergaming/griefing tossers and also those not interested in RolePlay who will certainly not suit the server. A Final note is that we are now getting a LOT of applications, and unlike other servers using a similar process, you are NOT guaranteed acceptance by merely filling one out. Please bear this in mind when filling it out and taking part in the trial period.
and I WISH I would stop using bloody CAPITAL letters all the SODDING time! :P
Many thanks goes to those players already in Vives, I can safely say they are the best roleplayers anywhere..... I honestly mean this unlike elsewhere.
Many Thanks
Arathon
As a side note for the application form, here are some reasons why we have failed applications recently to try and avoid:
(1) one word answers - we would like thorough explanations.
(2) Favourite class? Answer - Drow, I love being chaotic evil coz it's cool and I can kill people, I also like their cool stats and you can min/max them to make really tough fighters especially when you combine them with this other class! You get really high AC and stuff Wahey! (speaks for itself)
(3) if you are a friend of someone here then cool , we will bear that in mind as a referral if they're cool (which they most likely are) HOWEVER please still fill in the form as if you were not. One word answers and name-dropping will still result in a deny. |

[Repost from another thread]
Well, just to clairify how the system works:
The registration system allows players to submit application to play on Vives. All staff members (DMs & Admins, henceforward called 'DMs' for simplicity) get a chance to vote and give comments on that player's application. A majority of DMs must vote 'approve' for that player to be accepted. As I see it, an 'approve' vote says that the DM is willing to fight for the right of the player to be a part of the server.
After acceptence, players must maintain a certain number of 'approve' votes from DMs to stay in Vives. DMs can change their vote on the player, usually based upon how they see the player IG. Again, the idea is that a DM may loose faith in a player and change their vote indicating that they are no longer willing to support that player's right to play in Vives. If enough votes change, then it's possible the player no longer has the minimum number of 'approve' votes, thus rendering their Vives account suspended. Once suspended, the player may speak to an admin (me, Aria or Ara) concerning the issue, but that's no guarentee the suspension will be lifted. The player still needs the minimum 'approve' votes for the account to be reinstated.
The thinking behind the system is this: All the staff members have a say in who they think should and should not be allowed to player in Vives. The DMs (not Admins) are the ones that are IG and interact with the players the most, so they need this important feedback mechanism. At the same time, this does not give any one DM all the control. Given how the system works, for a player to stay there needs to be a reasonable consensus from the DMs. Same goes for deciding that a player is not longer allowed to stay; a reasonable consensus must be made before the player becomes suspended. I think it's important that the DMs and admins share this responsibility.
Also, as a side note, this whole process is automated since the admins aren't always around to deal with these issues.

A question from an applicant, reposted here.
Question: How long does this application process takes?
--
Answer: It varies, according to (i) how many DMs are willing to endorse your application, and (ii) technical processes such as whether the automated process have problems with verifying your CD-key etc.
An unanimous acceptance usually takes from several hours to up to a day. In cases where the opinions are divided, DMs will speak with one another to discuss their rationale; they have 5 days to come to a collective decision, sometimes involving tentative / conditional acceptance. Applications that have garnered no support over the period since the submission expires at the end of the duration, and the applicant will be notified automatically.
In cases of technical difficulties, we'll try to sort it out as soon as possible. Q would be btter able to comment on what kind of information do you receive as an applicant. |

Actually, it was changed to now be no longer than 3 days. So, after 3 days if sufficient 'approve' votes have been cast, the registration will be accepted.

And just to clarify, just because your registration isn't accepted in 5 hours (or whatever) this doesn't mean you're not accepted. Those registrations that are accepted in less then the 3 days are accepted becuase there's unanimous acceptance in less than the 3 days usually due to the individual being well known by the DMs (usually because the applicant hangs out in IRC, so we already know them). Now, just because your registration doesn't get unanimous acceptance, don't be concerned either, because not all DMs always have the time to vote (as I've been away for the last week).

Just a correction, as this is a little out of date:
The trial period is 10 hours |
