Return of the Death Drinker...
Posted: 18 Jun 2006 09:13 AM
In Inns across the lands, worried people huddle over their ales, discussing the latest disturbing rumors coming from Port Royale, Brandibuck, Buckshire, and even around Midor.

A glowing red sword, referred to be some as the "Death Drinker" has been seen wantonly slaughtering nearly any living being which crosses its path- men, women, children, it seems to matter not- then either dicing up the bodies or plunging itself into them, leaving the bodies pale and apparently drained of blood.

Though the casualties are so far limited to small groups traveling outside of settlements, people worry whether this trend will continue- or whether the apparently sentient sword will seek more prey.

Rumors fly about the sword being a sign of the apocalypse, an agent of a cabal of Illithids, a tool of the Synspawn, or unleashed by mad mages. Some even say that an insane Wizard and his twisted Sorceress concubine set the sword free as a part of a depraved marriage pact…

*bump to main page*

Purpose in life: finding better ways of allowing players to kill themselves. Repeatedly.

*cough cough* A more-pallid-than-usual grey skinned half-elf tries to control his involuntary coughing which has tormented him for what seems like weeks now. His ears twitch as he overhears a sunbringer mentioning ths strange "Death Drinking" Sword to another person concealed in the shadows. The Ranger's lodge of Mirghul is darkening as the sun sets outside, casting dramatic shadows indoors and making it difficult to see in the main hall. Crafting in the back room would surely be difficult until morning, so he had decided to sit down in the main hall just to rock by the fire and drink one of his hand crafted Elven Wines. He attempts to hear more, but can't make out the place where it was seen, only that it exists...

"shuld I menshun it to Vakal?" he almost whispers to himself under his rhasping breath. --He sits hunkered over in weariness as the undead parasite tries to feed on his soul and overtake him, but somehow his body continues to resist. Even sitting he felt tired, as if HIS OWN life force were being drank... his body craves death now, like a runner craves to stop and rest; a negative energy tugging, pulling down, making him tired and hungry, so hungry.

Vakal had asked that he seek him out if he ever knew of a sword that drank the lifeforce of a person. "Like a vampire," Vakal had requested. To find it and buy it if it could be bought. "Where did he get such an evil idea for a sword," Kal had thought? Kalannar had told him that he had seen sickles that did this, but that they were very Evil in nature and that often weapons of such strength could drain the souls of the people who used them. Corrupting them. To own such a weapon would, more than likely, have a second cost. Yet despite all that, he promised that if he found one, he would buy it, whatever the cost and sell it to Vakal. Why did he make such a foolish promise? It could very well mean the death of Vakal's soul, (and now Kalannar was getting a taste of just how dangerous such an affair could be.) Sometimes a good man could renig on his word if it were for the better Good over all... if only this sickness in himself could be put into a sword instead of his now quickly aging body.

He would have to seek out this sword, as dangerous as it may be, and gather information of whether this aparition were dominable. Perhaps he could find out from others if it could be captured and used... but he doubted the safety of using such a thing... better to destroy such an evil weapon than allow it to corrupt another soul into serving the ever growing Darkness over Vives...

But to find the thing...

And for now, he still had to find the cat of that desert woman and tell it to tell her that he would see this mysterious healer he had been informed of. Perhaps, as she had said, "the spell could be broken."

"Firs' jus' anuther tormented attempt at sleep..." he murmured to himself as he began to doze before the Fire...

"Life is a short trip... travel light"

Rumors begin to spread by the majority of the Buckshire Militia being slain by a flying sword, sacrificing themselves to distract the blade from the innocents inside their homes.

The dust and dirt of the well worn roads of Buckshire do little to hide the bloodstains from the slaughter...
