Posted: 23 May 2006 04:49 PM Acutally, since most axes are mounted on a wooden haft, the size and shape of the head doesn't carry sound, but rather conducts the vibrations straight to the handle, where they are deadened. Because of this lack of resonance, any "Ka-Tang" sounds would more likely come from the item struck, rather than the axe itself, which usually exudes a thick muddy "Chnk" noise, even when solidly striking other metal objects.
