A friendly reminder

Just a quick heads up to players.

Vives principal focus is the RP. Not XP. Not hack and slash. Not looting. Not CNR. But RP.

All the above can be a lot of fun, and are part and parcel of what Vives offers. So long as they do not become such a primary focus that RP ceases to be the main reason for playing here.

As such, we do have rules that we have to enforce. And a general spirit we look for from people playing here.

I have noticed a few things since being back as an active DM. Players carrying around quest items waiting to use them at a more optimum time when the xp is harder to get. And players giving quest items to other players to allow them to complete a quest without actually having done the work.

The rules on this are simple, dont. When you do a quest, complete it as soon as possible. And unless you have been involved in the vast majority of a scripted quest, do not join a party just to get the xp at the time the quest is being completed.

Going with higher level people is fine, so long as you are present for the entire quest. Otherwise you are metagaming.

In future, if I see any quest items in people's inventory that are for quests they have already completed. Or for quests that they should have completed but they are "holding on to". I will simply remove those items from inventory, and further penalties are certainly possible, including xp docks greater than you would get from actually completing the quest.

Just play Vives in the spirit that is intended. And yes, I know some people may not have considered this "wrong". But if you look at it from the point of view of what these quests are intended to offer, circumventing the entire quest just to get the XP isnt really the point.

Anyone who has quest items in their inventory should bin them asap. Please.

Cheers,

Sirac

What about quests you um, don't know how to complete? I still have quest items from some quests I have no idea where to finish. And I don't want to risk an XP penalty because I don't know where to go, even though my character would finish it ASAP.

The DMs will always chat with you first. And 99% of the time it is very obvious to us when this is an issue. Judging on player experience, number of items, and whether it is the very simple to obtain and complete quest items.

To give an example, a certain desert creatures head or a certain recipe book are much more likely to be a problem than some of the more complex quest items.

Sirac

I guess it's better that one of my pc's throws a certain stuffed animal away before someone catches him sleeping with it tucked in the bend of his arm and under his chin.

As long as the DMs have a quick chat with the person, it all makes fine sense to meSmiley I know I *still* keep some quest items around because to the best of my knowledge the quest is currently "unfinished", or I have no idea what to do with themTongue out *Coughs at a ring setting and gem*

In over two years, I have never done that quest. Ever.

yeah... only ones I hold onto are ones I know are unfinnished, (or at least, last time I checked )
*cough*bigbreastedfemalestatue*cough*, or I honestly have no clue about, or just haven't had time to look into because I've been too busy roleplaying *cough*laurasbaby*cough*

and I have thrown away quest items that I know I have finnished before... and even thrown away items that some other character was too bothered to find a trash can and just dropped em on the ground. *hands on hips* ...feel like someones mother. *smirks*

Hmmm.. and here I am dumping a certain bigBreastedFemaleStatue, like New jersey dumps toxic waste. With that one, and i'll do my best to keep it vague. I was keeping it, as I wasn't sure if Ara was done with it yet... Eh oh well, guess I can go aquire another one when time permits.

oh and it seems Bkatt is a baby stealer too... *shakes his finger at Him* For Shame :)
