request from a humble crafter Posted: 22 Dec 2005 06:38 PM |
This is completely small potatoes, and maybe it's designed this way, but Aramani's in Port Royale seems to be the only place to get tanning acid and tanning oil. However, they have almost no salt. Koijii's has plenty of salt, but no other supplies and no hide rack. Versucci's in Midor has salt, but nothing else.
Would it be possible to have at least one place that has all the supplies and equipment, in one location? It would make the whole process of crafting much easier.
Additionally, there are basic supplies that don't seem to be sold anywhere - of course, I may just not have found it, but I have spent over 70 hours on the server so far, and haven't seen empty flasks, for instance. Nor does Gepetto's sell most supplies, like bowstrings and such. Also, at Gepetto's I can't seem to make anything other than planks and arrow shafts - are there PC woodcrafters who might be able to help out with this?
Normally I would handle this IG, but it seems more like an interface thing than anything else.

You craft alot of those things (the flasks, the oils, ect). You can either make them yourself or but they from soemone (i can make the flasks and oils easy).
Basically if you cant find it someone probably crafts it. |

Empty flasks and animal meat are the biggest pain in the rear end in the game. Neither can easily be obtained in large quantities. If I wanted to find empty flasks, I would talk to somebody who advertises that he is an alchemist, and ask him where he gets his (i.e. me). It is veeeeery tedius, and I am perpetuallly making them.

When I first started on the server with Vrodo I hadn't wandered into Aramani's, and set about making all the bits to cure and tan hides from scratch. Vrodo made a ton of tanning acid from birch bark, etc. It can be done, and its kind of cool and aboriginal, too...
He also frequently considered throttling Versuci to see if he wouldn't drop a pattern book. He was desperate for one!
After all was said and done... turns out you can't keep anything in a leather pouch made from badger. Bah!
Really though--ask around and use the forums to find what you need and can't craft yourself. There ought to be more of that. |

You know, maybe there should be a seperate thread in the trading post forum just for "merchant posters", so that players can see what active player merchants are available. Just a place for a player to list what they make or offer, and (if they choose) their prices. |

Flasks and Vials are easily made in vast quantities.
The last order I placed with a determined flask maker has left me with still over 200 flasks.
There are also some places where they can be purchased in limted quantities.

There is salt to be found near Port Royale. You'll just have to find it.
Some improvements in the placement of items can be made, but you will never find all items in one location.
Wood crafting was being improved upon so that better items could be created. I got side tracked and didnt finish it all, but it should be fixed soon
Most basic supplies will need to be crafted. My best suggestion will be to find others and work with them to help each other.

| Not to mention the benefit of blending some of your crafts together, such as tailoring and alchemy. |

This could take the form of a forum thread on the boards that comprise a virtual market (many PWs have them), or of a regular meeting place for an IG market...
There ought to be a weekly/bi-weekly/monthly gathering of crafters in the Buckshire Trading Post... not a guild, but something like the Market that went on at the Asashi Monestary, just so folk see one another once in a while and learn what's available IG.
Am I stepping on some Asashi toes? Lucky for me them monks are all IG and I'm out here typing.
Let's see that player-driven economy get rolling! Folk who aren't into it could hand off their wares to someone who is, to act as their representative. Low level folk could show up with ore they don't know how to smelt yet, or random plants they've picked, or ingots of metal and glass... Folks with no skill whatsoever could just show up hoping to get hired as labor/assistant/apprentice... "You five, take this list, a thousand each for half a day's work!"
It'd be beautiful! Actually, a little bit of this goes on already, and yes, I find it beautiful.
Understood, as it has been said before in the forums this is not a crafting PW but a roleplaying one. These days, crafting and roleplaying seem to be good friends. |
