Harry potter

| I just saw the new harry potter movie and I was wondering if anybody else felt a little let down? don't get me wrong I thought as movies go it was pretty decent but I think I shot myself in the foot by reading the books before watching the movie this time around and it wasn't as enchanting as the first three.... :( |

The last three books are about 3x as long as the first three, and are getting longer.
I just don't see them making as good a movies as the first ones, since the more intricate details of the plot and character relationships are just too numerous to fit into a couple of hours of film.
I figure that's why this movie, and the next ones, just won't seem as good as the first 3.

| Having been a major, active fan of the books for I-don't-know-how-many-years-now, and been through the angst and the scorn and the ripping apart of the films more times than I can count, I have just given up comparing them. There are plotlines and details that were incredibly important in the books that were not included in the films, and additions to the films that were not in the books, to the point that the movies are just their own animal now, their own story, and while it is hardly as rich or detailed a story as the books, they are still good for what they are. (end run-on ;P) Granted, when I heard that GoF was going to be made into a single, two and a half hour movie, I still cringed. I'm going to see it this afternoon and will likely have all manner of judgment to pass afterwards, but I'm hoping to approach it the same was I did PoA: as an adaptation, a reinterpretation, it's own story. I found I enjoyed PoA immensely, because I went in expecting it to be different than the book, but good, as its own story. With a few exceptions, it was, and I hope the same can be said for this one. |

well put.... the films are definately their own animal.. no comparison whatsoever.
the books are great, and the movies are... well, at least they are entertaining.
So with all the movies so far, and I'm sure with this one as well, I have been dissapointed in one way (because movies can just never compete with the imagination) but have been delighted in other ways (its always interesting to me to see how they bring things... characters and places and such... out of the books to life... see what their interpretation of it is, even IF they aren't near as cool as what I had pictured (although on occasion its better, or at least different enough to be cool))
In any case.. I must say that, if the cemetary scene isn't as intense as the scene I created in my head when reading the book... I will be all sorts of dissapointed.
So I should just get over it now.. because there is no way it could be as good.
Alright.. so now that I'm over being dissapointed with the movie, I can go and enjoy it for what it is. :) |

*nod* I was let down by Prisoner of Azkaban myself. The 'depth' of the magic world and the almost sarcastic humor didn't get through well in the movie. Also, they skip several quite important plots, making me often wonder 'where was this again?'. I haven't seen #4 yet, but I'll wait until we can rent it :) |

Don't shoot me down, but I think that Harry Potter is incredibly overrated. I've only seen one of the movies, but I really didn't much care for the books. Too traditional and predictable.
