Live Shows Posted: 29 Sep 2005 09:55 AM |
One thing I really love is seeing a band live (well, who doesn't) and I'd like to hear some other people's Best Live Shows ever. I haven't seen a lot but the shows that really stand out:
Radiohead, Montreal 2003 - Radiohead was a great show, with the exception of the dead crowd (they were mostly too stoned). They played everything you'd want to hear (including a lot from their newest CD at the time - I especially liked Push me, Pull me) and they encored with Karma Police. The concert was general admin (on an island) and by the end I was only about 5 people from the stage. I'd love to go see them again, but I'd be disappointed by the lack of crowd reaction.
The Trews, Fredericton 2004 - This show was just before the Trews went big (in Canada anyway). They were playing at a bar with a 150 capacity which meant it was an awesome atmosphere for a concert.
Great Big Sea, Fredericton 2002 - This show was in the hockey rink and was not general admin so it was a painful show. I really enjoy GBS but like most area shows, you have to stay in your seat on the floor :(
Grand Theft Bus, Jimmy Swift Band, Fredericton, Halloween 2003 - These two are local bands from back east and they put on an amazing show. Halloween is my favorite holiday and they showed up dressed in creepy costumes. When these guys play together they do seamless sets, meaning they'll start a long jam song and one by one the other band will join them on stage until both bands are playing at the same time and eventually the other band will leave.
Pearl Jam, Saskatoon 2005 - Just saw these guys a few weeks ago and it was a great show. It was an area show so security was being a pain still. They played just about every song you could hope for with the exception of Once, Black and Yellow Ledbetter. My personal favorite of the night was 'Rearview', followed close behind by 'State of Love and Trust' (which I was not expecting). They played 26 songs (10/10/5/1) and one the third encore they played the Canadian national anthem 'Rocken' in the Free World'. I personally think all bands final song of the night should be a cover.
Big Wreck, Fredericton 2001 - This was an area show, but it was general admin. They played an awesome set and security was allowed crowd surfing. Great show all around. They did a second encore of 'Immigrant Song'.
Other bands of note: Nickleback, Defult, Blue Rodeo, Kim Mitchell
Next Bands to see: U2, Dave Matthews Band, Finger 11, and Audioslave
The best show I've seen: 1. Big Wreck, 2. Pearl Jam, 3. Grand Theft Bus and Jimmy Swift
So, lets hear from the rest of you. For example, any of you oldtimers seen Zeppelin or the Who? |

So, for over a year now, I have been able to die happy. |
Do not ask of them questions. You will receive three answers, all of which are true and horrifying to know. |

*chuckles*
went on "summer tour" with phish during '97 and '98 while i was in college. Not a hippy though. Gasher has nothing to worry about. He is still the King Treehugger |

| My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult was terrific live; also, in Boston, Sam Black Church and Only Living Witness were spectacular (find SBC's cover of Disco Inferno and listen to it)! |
"What are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about dying."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means lying in the ground with dirt on your face and holding your breath forever."

Since I usually measure the quality of a live show by how much I think about my aching feet...the best show was Metallica at Rock am Ring 2003. Nearly 3 hours without a break, and about 100000 people freaking out. Some other good shows were Faith No More (baaack then), Rammstein (if you like the pyro-show), Die Toten Hosen (quite popular German band and a guarantee for a good show), and often some of the less known bands on the Alterna-Stage at Rock am Ring. Oh, and not to forget some crazy finnish band when I was in Vienna on a trip from school, about '95 I think, when we stumbled into a tiny club to get completely wasted and these guys just had one great party. |

Rush in 97 .. great show, outdoors, lasers flying all throughout the night skies, much alcohol flowing, and some very great music.
Kiss reunion tour original members, make-up, flying , blood , fire .. and a trip down memory lane to a time in my childhood when these guys played the parts of superheroes.
Kiss -Psycho Circus tour .. Read above, plus cool 3d stuff on a monster screen, and went with a very special person.
Smashin Pumpkins- Mellon collie and the infinite sadness tour.. despite the depressing name , the show rocked, and had a blast that night.
Gilbey Clarke and his tequila brothers rocked.. great music, and a small club atmosphere made it a fun night, other than the whole V getting kicked out part. |
