Some Observations... Posted: 19 Sep 2005 11:21 AM |
Hi! Let me start off by saying the module looks great!! I've only logged a couple of hours in the game thus far, but I'm extremely impressed with the atmosphere! Great work!
There's a couple of things I wanted to mention to the script/build team, just as sort of an FYI. Hopefully this is the right forum to do this - if not, my apologies.
My first day playing, probably about 30 minutes into the experience, I came across a Ranger fella ( NPC obj I believe ) one area away from the starting Inn area. He already had a nice fire goin', so I decided to stop there and take a rest. To make a long story short - I was interrupted by some goofy bird who then attacked me ( a wandering monster, I suppose ). Being the warrior type, I of course opted to defend myself and dispatched the bird quite easily. Unfortunately for me, the ranger who was standing a few steps behind me didn't take kindly to me bashing the woodland creature over the head with the pommel of my sword ( some kind of faction thing, maybe? ): he starting firing arrows at me. Now, I thought we had a nice friendship going, me and this ranger, so I was a little perturbed at the fact he would try to cut me down in my prime. Once again, I defended myself... only this time I wasn't so lucky. After taking two arrows to the chest and one to the throat, I slipped into quiet unconciousness. I probably could've have escaped, had I just took flight, but I found the entire encounter to be a little odd. ( Not a big deal, but for a complete newbie to the world I was a little confused at this. I think it was pretty much an issue of resting in the wrong place at the wrong time. Just thought I'd mention it. )
Secondly - while I was playing last night I saw 4 TMI errors coming from three different scripts in the span of about 20 minutes. I experienced a nice spike of lag after some of the errors, but no crashes ( which is definately good, and somewhat impressive at the same time. Unsure if the lag was related or not - most likely not, as it subsided 10 minutes later ) I'm not aware if this is a known issue or not, but its never a positive thing to see that many scripts throwing errors. I'm at work at the moment, but I do have the names of the scripts and object tags that threw the errors written down at home -- most likely a few bad loops in the code. I did use the in-game bug report, but only named the scripts in the report. If any further info is needed/wanted please send me a PM and I'll get it to you.
Also - thanks to the player last night who sent me a tell mentioning that opening a certain display case in the area I was currently exploring could cause my NWN client to crash. My apologies for not remembering your name - but I thought that was a good heads up and appreciated it. Its good to know the other players are keeping an eye out on the newbs, and the fact that the player had enough insight to notice what area I was in, and warn me about the potential problem, left a good impression on me of the player base as a whole. Thanks again!! |

The TMI error have to do with the persistant store...like the database gets too full or whatever *is not a scripting type person* and it happens when you open a number of the merchants. I'm sure that one is being worked on as it has been around for a while.
And no problem about the tell. I was making my way to meet you, but I got side tracked on the way. Perhaps next time :)
I'm glad you're enjoying yourself. |

faction bugs...
bug report them if/when you find them
tmi errors...
we are always trying to get rid of those and are aware of most of them already.
Thanks for the feedback
