The Biggest shoutout ever Posted: 25 May 2005 10:04 PM |
Obviously this wiwll mean nothing to our world sport deprived north american sad members.
But i cant help shouting to the whole world about the fact that my team LIVERPOOL have just won the biggest prize in football for the 5th time after 21 years in the wilderness, and yes , i am old enough to remember the last time.
The game was without doubt the greatest comback ever seen in the modern game Liverpool went 1-0 down after 1 minute and trailed 3-0 at half time game over basicly against AC Milan who are perhaps the best team in the world at the moment ( and that means the WORLD ) (every country on this planet ( not just you hick insular states as you call yourselves over there) ) So anyway liverpool are 3-0 dowwn at half time ... and they cpme back to level it 3-3 Extra time 15 mins each way still 3-3 it goes to penalties ........ horror of horrors (milan have an impecable record at penalties) BUT....
LIVERPOOL WIN IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Iam telling you this is the pinacle of sporting acheivement in the real world and all your praise
yes all of your praise should be heaped in vast quantities here on this post
Myself ......i can honestly say that ....unless England win the wworld cup in my life time , that my life is fulfilled... If you dont understand the magnitude of this achievement then i pity you
(LIVERPOOL - dock yard somewhere over there with magnificent football history) (MILAN - Industrial town somewhere over there where they dont speak American and have the second best record for winning the trophy since its conception. After Real Madrid (Madrid ) some other place over here where they speak the new first language of America

Re: The Bigest shoutout ever Posted: 26 May 2005 01:04 AM |
First off, Congratulations! That was one of the best football matches I've ever seen, and probably won't see anything quite like that for a long time, if ever. Amazing comeback (far better and more exciting than United in '99....) and I can't imagine many Liverpool supporters getting any sleep tonight.
As an Arsenal fan, I was only too happy to see you guys off Chelsea in the semi-finals...I still don't understand how Liverpool can look so mediocre in the Premiere League and look so great in the Champions League, but you certainly deserved it...And you certainly deserve a place in next year's Champions League. I still can't believe they don't have a spot for the defending champion regardless of how they do in league competition....
Second, as for us insular American hicks, well, just know that a growing number of us love the game (even though we may occasionally call it soccer because we still love American football and can't help it). And while i won't try to compare U.S. and English soccer (because that's a futile effort), I might note (as a little jibe) that both the U.S. and England made it to the quarterfinals in the last World Cup...
Anyway, congrats again!

It's only soccer to quite much England and America. I thought to not get confused with 'American' Football and all. We call that rugby here in the Netherlands. As for 'soccer', the literal translation is football. But we get taught soccer here, just because those nitwits across the channel need to name a sport Football because you only kick the game off with a foot ;)

You'll find that Soccer is so much more enthusiastic over there, because you guys have legal gambling. So when a team loses, alot of the guys in the crowd -wheew-. Watch out.
We here in the states....well... as a Football player, I'm personally offended to be grouped into having the same sport name as a "Foot Fairy".
=).
Congrats Liverpool.
Lets go Jets. |

Bah! You big Girl's Blouse! American Football? Don't they use armour or something? Big Shoulder pads a la Dynasty? :P
Now Rugby! That's a REAL Man's game :P
- Ara
P.S. American Football........ That's where you run for about 5 seconds then have a minute rest, and when you only play in one limited position so the skills needed aren't too great, only play perhaps a total of 30 minutes (if that)? That's the one riiiight? Heeheehee |

Rugby is a more physical game, but there's more skill in (American) football.

Re: The Biggest shoutout ever Posted: 26 May 2005 01:27 PM |
More skill? Pah. You mean because the men have to have little diagrams drawn out for them so they know where they are going.
They dont even have to get to the touch line they can just lie on the floor, take a 2 minute break and then move another 2 yards and lie down. There is no tactics in that. None at all.
As for the Liverpool thing, shame on you! Football (and yes it is FOOTBALL) is the game of the Devil!!!! |

You're from Bristol. Come along to the Bristol Aztecs. Watch a training session, or a game... or if you're so sure, put some pads on and join in. ;)

Better yet, strap on a Helmet , get in a stance, and line up against me. I'll make your "5 seconds of running" feel like 10 years of pain *grin*, when I sink a gut wrenching elbow into your chest and a fist under your throat. Ahh the good ole days. |

erm i would like to say that although i do think the wearing of armor is a bit on the girly side, the Bristol Aztecs do alot to promote good sportsmanship within the bristol community. They attend childrens homes and young offenders places to teach them how to play. And yours truly got asked to go for a wide receiver.. i have quick feet and a fear of large men.. it helps.
I didnt know you went to there games Barnas, do you know any of the players? |

Having played both Rugby and American football (albeit in my younger fitter days) I can attest to both. American football has the facade of strategy but doesnt have the endurance to make it such a game. And its no where near as rough as Rugby.
How many American footballers do you see with Mangled faces?
Maybe step onto a rugby pitch and see a real sport. |

One thing I will point out though in support of the whole American FOOTBALL nonesense which all British people use to defend the title of soccer, and denounce as stupid....
the proper title of Rugby is Rugby Football and they use their feet just as little as American Footballers. |

I play for the juniors, linebacker and safety, and we occasionally end up training alongside the seniors... so I know all of the juniors, and a few of the seniors.

Thats because all the people who are getting mangled aren't the stars of the game.
The "Thin guys" are guys that rarely get hit hard, get all the glory, and hog the cameras. Guys like Quarterbacks (Who have five people designated to prevent them from being hit at all), so as long as the thin guys still have pretty faces by the end of the day....the "Linemen" did their job :).
REAL Football is played by the five guys in the front. Their job is literally to punch and beat the hell out of the other five guys, and its a dogfight. Affectionatley called "The Trenches". |
