The word goes out....

*Small street urchins clutching a shiny gold coin tug on the sleeves of individuals and groups, passing through Port Royal or midor. The tavern keep in Icy Vale speaks to those coming in from the cold. All of them spreading the same word...*

Rasputin and Sara are looking for people to help them. People who want undead to stay dead and aren't afraid to fight to make them that way. They need friends who are pretty powerfull - people like thier friends Bereil, Jack and Jessup - but quite a large group. Some nasty things have been happening in an old forgotten tomb out in the desert - some big nasty things. Rasp and Sara want some help to clear the whole place out properly.

((trying to get a party together to go an have some fun in the crypt of lost souls [I think it's called]. Not sure when - but if people are interested then we could try to co-ordinate a time.))

*a young noble, walking the streets of the Port, disdainfully accepts a rather grubby missive from a street urchin, one hand firmly on his money pouch as he does so. His sneering expression is replaced for a moment by a terrible anger as he reads the note, but he swiftly composes himself and continues onwards, face and manner outwardly calm and controlled once more.*

*upon reaching his fathers mansion, he curtly dismisses the attentions of his manservant, and locks himself away in his study. The cold hatred is clear upon his face now, as he mutters...*

"So the priests of Elbereth are seeking to move against my lord, and his chosen. Well then, it would be remiss of me not to ensure they receive an...appropriate reception."

*So saying, the young man puts quill to fine parchment, and writes a number of missives in flowing handwriting. These he arranges to be delivered to certain individuals, paying handsomely for them to be delivered privately and discretely. One further missive he arranges to be translated into another language. And then, with a wry smile, he sends for a servant of his family to personally carry a verbal message to one last fellow...a fellow who certainly could not read, but whose other skills were quite...exemplary.*

((any who have ever been restored to life by a certain priest of mine, and who knowingly and willingly swore a "favour" to said priest, receive the following missive. I think the players specifically mentioned above will know who they are! *grins* Please note, these messages are delivered when alone, and thus without anyone else seeing you receive them. And no other player is aware of the following...))

*written in neat, flowing handwriting on the very finest quality parchment.*

You owe myself and my lord a favour, in return for your continued life. The time for that favour is now. I will expect you to contact me as swiftly as possible to learn what is required of you. Failure to do so will result in the direst of consequences, both for yourself and those you care for. Do as I ask, and the slate will be wiped clean. You can find me, or leave a message for me at... ((goes on to detail the whereabouts of the town house of a noble family in Port))

*as the missive is read in full, the parchment glows with an eerie green light, and decays to pulp in a matter of seconds*

*once all his messages are sent, the young noble leans back and gives a dry chuckle. Then he stands, muttering once more...*

"That is a good start, but a start is all. There is more I must do..."

*so saying he stands, and once more steps forth onto the streets of the Port. With a muttered prayer he disappears from sight, and makes his way off into the night.*

............................

((anyone responding in any manner to the above, please send me a PM.

Cheers,

Sirac))

"Right" said the grey haired old man, straightening a few plates on his armour as he stood up from the deep chair by the fire, in the Icvy Vale inn "The time has come for action".

"Evil spreads accross the lands daily, and sometimes you just have to take a stand. May the power and guidance of the mother be with me now."

Picking up his club from where it has been toasting nicely in the fire, until the end burns brightly, the old man cracked his back and knuckles.

"Yes indeed - the time has come for action. I wonder where Sara and the others are. You there - boy - how would you like to earn another gold coin? Tell your friends to spread the word, I will wait for people in The inn in Buckshire - McGuliculties I think it is called - and then leave from there for the crypt"

Seemingly unaware of the gathering shaddows, Rasputin put his snow-covered boots on by the door, and left the inn in a swirl of snow flakes.

"Vurbag! Jack! Bereil! Sara! Quin! Taulath! Jessup! Garrick! Azrael! Shalee!....." The list of names Rasputin shouted into the teeth of the wind in Whipsnade pass went on for some time, but when he was finished and continued on his way, no reply was heard save for the screaming of the wind and the howling of wolves....

I have to say, crashing computer aside, I was dissapointed.
Jack got the only creature of undeath induced roleplay I saw, I didn't even get an 'eerie silence' or a 'laughs mockingly at the little cleric that led everyone there'.

Mindless undead were never much for talking.

We do hope that some good roleplay will fall out of this rather dramatic crushing of the good guys, though. ;)

Um.... I did say "Its a trap".

I have to confess I saw the trap, didnt quite see the boarded up exit blocking our retreat. That was ingenius. As was the "well I shall just kill these and then deal with the blocked exit" only to see a legion suddenly arrive.

My Third voice (the rather more sarcastic of my inner voices) simply tapped his foot, whispering "You were saying!?"

I forgot the screenshots. Shame. It was awesome. If not brutally OTT but at the same time amazingly OTT.

Really shows the good use of that new multispawn DM tool I believe. Not that I would like it tested out too many times of course. *grins*

((Actually, I guessed they'd block the exit and send in some undead (though Miramil being Miramil had nooo idea). Some undead, I say. It's the mind-bogglingly colossal size of the force that made my jaw drop.))

((Hmm, it is almost like they knew exactly where and when you were going to attack. So much so that they had made some quite thorough preparations beforehand. Maybe a lesson to be learnt there... *smiles and shrugs*

Everything that happened resulted from player actions, and the DMs just played out the results. Vives is a living, breathing, and at times incredibly dangerous world. Cant emphasise enough the benefits to careful planning, discretion, and forethought. Notch this one up to the "bad guys", who some players have the misguided belief never win in Vives! :0)

So the DMs really should not attract any flak for being unreasonable, but rather for playing out a scenario realistically, as presented to them by IC player actions.

And to be clear, while I was involved as a player behind the scenes, so were a lot of others, on both sides.))

the creatures were prespawned behind the rocks

had you gone that way, you might have discovered them when you were at full strength.

There were nothing but mostly wimps and an annoying lich to the south.

The real trap was to the north, behind the rocks. The rocks were moved to make escape, a bit slower.

Well, yes, I can see some of that. I do think though, that given the liches that standardly live there, it could have been a bit less 'army of darkness'.
And - unsmashable rocks to prevent rescue?
So now instead of RPing a daring, 'run in and try to rescue my friends scenario' I RP sitting somewhere moping over the loss of my friends and how I was unable to do anything about it?

Just wasn't really what I was thinking of when I went there is all.

Some of the best rp I have seen IG has resulted from situations where PCs were on the losing side. Suffered terribly. Thing is, there is no "win" or "lose" really in such a situation, as it can lead to good rp either way.

Hopefully your character will learn something from the experience. And in doing so, grow a little. That is the real "experience" that benefits characters in Vives, more than any XP ever could.

This mission didnt have to go this way. But it did, because of decisions made. Decisions that to my mind breathed a bit more life into the world, and so were definitely an all round good thing.

Cheers,

Sirac

Given that it was a IG character arranged setup and ambush, does it surprise you that they were ready?

Unfortunately, some of us need to sleep at some point, and we cannot stay there all night, and all morning to wait for a rescue attempt. (do you believe they would have been less ready for a return?)

Hence the unbreakable rocks.

But heroes are heros... the world has a funny way of giving them to a chance to escape, to return to fight another day.

Who knows, Jack may see his friends again. If he does, he can ask them what happened. There might be a story behind it.

Oh no - I realise the whole setup and ambush thing - I wasn't suprised they were ready, I OOC expected it. It wasn't the readiness I was questioning.
And I totally realise the need for sleep - even though vives seems to constantly have me sitting here at 2am or later on my pc...
The unbreakable rocks though, just seemed to make it an un-rescuable situation.
Ah well, not to worry. I suppose it gives me some angst to RP now.

Nope - unbreakable, unmovable, unsurmountable.

You know that bit in the LOTR when the heros valiantly enter the mines of Morier even though they know its a bad place, and attract the attention of the really big bad guys?
Well - imagine that, with all the goblins replaced by balrogs, and the big chasm filled with rocks so gandalf couldn't escape; and the collapsing staircase filled with rocks so the others couldn't escape. Imagine how much fun the LOTR 2 would have been then...

Well I have to confess, I did really enjoy that last night. I like the fact we had to think. We didnt do a very good job and we died but I did enjoy you.

The rocks actually produced a "Holy Cr*p" reaction and I always like it when that happens. Not entirely sure how they could have all been placed there so neatly like that, but nevertheless it was interesting.

My only annoyance was the couple of little guys that seem immune to Time Stop!!!
