Rental Chests, Persistent Chests, Mailboxes, Display Cases Posted: 16 Feb 2005 01:32 AM |
Hi All,
Just a quick note
1/ Rental Chests, Persistent Chests, Mailboxes and Display cases are limited to twenty objects only. If for some reason you have more than this number of objects in your chest please reduce the number. At a time later in the future, I change the code to enforce the limit.
2/ There is currently a bug in how these containers handle being filled up. If you put more than 20 objects into the container, the item will be deleted and lost. I am trying to fix this bug, but for the short term, dont do this. The containers will tell you how many objects you have when you close the container, so pay attention.
3/ I added a bug that limited the number of objects to 19. That has been fixed.
Please PM me if you have any concerns.

It's not a concern, well... not about the chest but..
Is it possible that some dresses are...bugged sometimes? Because you should have seen some of blanche's dresses *whistles* Wooowww.... *wink wink* ;P
Really is it just a problem of chests or of dresses by itself? |

I reported it a while back. |

One of the recent haks changed the dresses.
Ara is fixing those as and when he finds the time.
If you still want to wear your dresses, you will need to customize them to make them "less revealing".
If you do customize it, dont store it in a persistent chest or you will lose the customization.

Re: Rental Chests, Persistent Chests, Mailboxes, Display Cases Posted: 16 Feb 2005 06:48 PM |
Just to try and stick on topic.
When accessing my persistent mailbox and chest today it told me that it was full and wouldn't accept any items. I emptied them out completely and they still persisted in thinking it was full. This lasted through a reset. I bug reported it. |

Bollocks!
My apologies.
I'll try to get a quick fix in now.
In the meantime, don't take anything out of your chests /mailboxes/whatnot unless you are prepared to not put it back

Display cases and Persistent chests are working.
There might be a problem with mailboxes. Dont put items in or out of them until I can check the code again this evening.

Right,
everything appears to be working properly again.
There is one circumstance where the count of items in your chest can get out of sync. If that happens, just let us know and we will reset the count for you.
Please let me know if you experience any oddities.

((Hey all,
Just thought you'd like to know pdw was still working on this at past 5.30 am in the morning his time, without having had any sleep. Again!
I've lost count of the number of times this guy puts in amazing hours and limitless energy and devotion into Vives, all too often doing stuff behind the scenes that makes playing here a pleasure in countless ways people dont even realise.
So just an fyi really, so you can all thoroughly embarass him by singing his praises to the heavens. Oh, Vives doesnt have heavens...well ya know what I mean!)) |

| I couldn't agree more, pd puts up with a lot of grief, moaning, complaints, general 'get it off your chest' sessions (More than one from me) and yet still manages to hold down a job and raise a family as well as put in an immense amount of time both IG and behind the scenes. unfair!
You forget all the time put in by everyone else; the DM's, Ara, and the players. That dwarfs the little bit I do.

Re: Rental Chests, Persistent Chests, Mailboxes, Display Cases Posted: 04 May 2005 06:34 AM |
This seems as good a place as any to ask this question...
Could someone please shed some light as to how the room rentals, and the containers that come with them, work?
When your week is up... had you better have gotten all your stuff out of the container.. or you loose it forever, or does it just stay there untill the next time you rent a room, or... does it just stay there untill the next guy who rents "room #such and such" opens it to find you left all your belongings behind and its all his now?
Is there an option to extend your room/container rental with no interuption, if you go and speak with the inn owner?
how does that work? |

Vives has a huge database that stores information about your character. When you purchage a room, I'd image that there is a section of the database that is updated to say where your room is. With the containers, you can put things in there (up to 20 I believe) and they will stay there over a reset. This is handled by the database knowing that you put in 'Iron Full Plate' and spawning it in the chest when the server is reset, however any item that is not directly in the module will not stay in the chest over a restart (you shouldn't have to worry about this) or if you modified your armour, upon the restart, it will change back to the default look.
If your time runs out on your room, then you'll loose your stuff. You won't be able to get it back and the next person won't be able to get it. Think of it as a cleaning fee that the owner takes if you don't clean up :P.
If you speak to the inn owner you can "Rent a Room" (even if you have already rented a room in that inn) and that will extend the time you have the room for, not give you a new room.
I think I got everything. |

Re: Rental Chests, Persistent Chests, Mailboxes, Display Cases Posted: 04 May 2005 07:18 AM |
Xerah is quite right.
Whatever you place in the chest is stored in the db and a record kept of every item in it, up to a maximum of 20.
If your rental runs out without renewal the contents of the chest are lost, your rental ceases and the room (with an empty chest) becomes available for another player.
If you wish to rent for longer than a week, speak to the innkeeper repeatedly, asking to rent a room, and a further seven days will be added for each time you ask.
You will see bottom right on your screen as you do so - and also when you log on - exactly how many RL days and hours you have remaining on your room rental. Hope that clears it up for you.
Be wary about storing gold or items you have modified by changing their appearance or colour. There is no guarantee that your gold will be safe, and any modified items will be returned to their original appearance. |
