Yes, it is absolutely lovely. The textures and blending are especially well-done, and the color palette is to die for. Such an eerie, other-worldly feel. Yum. Who did it so I can fangirl you properly?
And while I would certainly love more versatility both in appearance and function with the forums, it's so pretty I don't much care about the clashing color schemes at this point.

The banner was created by Orange.
It's a lovely piece of work and I decided to put it on display.
Unfortunately, Orange does not have more of his/her(?) work on display at the moment that is easily accessible.
We will have a new banner some day, and this one probably will not be it, but I find it pretty to look at in the meantime.

I'm in a bit of a bad mood today, so I might as well weigh in here with a little more... balanced perspective...
The banner looks amazing, and yes it doesn't fit the colour scheme of the website, and it would be cool if the website's colour scheme did match it.
However, I don't much like the cute happy girl on the left, I mean she's pretty and all, but she doesn't match the rest of the banner, I'm not so keen on the shadowy figure on the right either, I think something else could have been done there. The two figures on either side detract from the central face. I think the banner would look better if the two figures on either side of the face simply weren't there. The face in the middle is simply stunning, love it, and the general colours are fantastic.
The "Vives" font is terrific, but I think it would look better centered on the left, with perhaps the latin quote (the one that means "from the moment we are born, we die") in the same font, but smaller, centered to the right balancing the "Vives" title.
Just my two cents for what its worth. But overall I love it, and even if it stayed the way it is now, I would still love it, and the artist who created that banner has my complete respect. I could never do anything remotely that good, the proof being in the banners I created on my clan website... |

One of the old servers I played with had several banners... and a random banner showed up everytime you logged onto the site.
As an amature Graphic designer myself... I'd love to make a banner or two... and I'm sure we have many other talented artists who would consider such a thing.
Perhaps we could have a little contest... like the Storyteller of the month contest? |

Sorry I've been a bit slack with the responses but I didn't actually know this thread existed untill about half a minute ago.

So thanks to all the compliments and crits alike, I'm always interested to hear what other people think and listening for ways to improve my 'eye' so to speak.
To Llewen, I'm actually quite taken with your idea of removing the figures from the left and right, but if you'll please note it's not actually possible to do so without creating a whole lot more. The woman on the right is easy enough, as she's on her own layer along with the autum leaves, however the chap on the right is harder to remove. While he's also on his own layer, the color and space around him is also part of that layer. Therefore removing him from the picture would mean leaving an essentially bare hole. So, sorry to dissapoint.

Gah, Paul.. you beat me to it...
I was literally half way through when I did some navigation between editing and quoting and such... and all the links I made now how the addresses as the linked text... I was SO confused... "did I do that? How did all those Addresses double up in the right places... was that an automatic forum feature or something?"
anyways.. if Photobucket doesn't mind the traffic and Vives members don't mind the Download... I could take a further step and show all the pictures here... That would be the ultimate in convenience/laziness.
I have all the links and commands set up... just have to copy past and post.

I've seen that World of Caenyr Banner before... On The vault or something... thought it was awesome then... I'm always a fan of battles within themes.
There was a Novel that came out, whose art had a similar effect.... Two editions of the book were released I think.... one had the Good side as the front and the Evil side as the back, and the other had the Evil as the front and the good as the back... Very dynamic, I've always been impressed with such concepts.
Reminds me of an image from "Heroes of Might and Magic III" in which a Demon was prepared to cross blades with an Angel with a flaming sword.
