Posted: 03 Dec 2004 09:49 PM Was having a wonderful time getting threatened by a drow on a tropical isle, when all of a sudden the lag monster became unbearable. Is this typical? This was just 3 pcs on an island, not a lot of crazy spell effects or anything. I feel bad Mr. C, who ever you were, but I could not endure another moment of that sluggishness. Posted: 04 Dec 2004 01:25 AM There are no drows on Vives. The drow race belongs to another setting, and Vives has it's own setting. The "dark elves" in Vives are called Atalan, just to clear things up. Second, I believe you need DM-permission to create a character which is not one of the basic races, as in a subrace. I assume the fella who plays the character had DM-permission, if not, the DMs will take care of it. Untill then, I'm guessing you can treat it as an elf with dark skin. On the lag tone. Yes, lag happens in Vives. Not always, in fact I always face a real evident problem if lag when there's about 20 or more people logged on and there's a big DM event, when all the players are concentrated in the same area. Other cases are not at all common, and for me are not usually related to Vives, but to my own lousy unstable connection. WickedArtist: I think he needs a proper elf. WickedArtist: A christmas elf! Posted: 04 Dec 2004 09:47 AM All, I have spoken to the player involved and they have confirmed they are playing a dark-skinned elf NOT a drow and NOT an atalan. Drow do not exist in Vives, so please don't even react to this character (or any character) mentioning drow. If you want to RP out that your character suspects this character might be atalan that is fine. No PvP unless under the usual guidelines though. But you now know OOC only that this character is not an atalan. Posted: 07 Dec 2004 10:48 AM Just taking this bag to Lag, I thought of something which Im a little curious about. Lag is a pain in the backside which we all know and is really annoying. But I have seen a place where Lag actually 9/10 resolves in the players favour. Obviously its still annoying but at least it doesnt result in Lag deaths. Im not sure if this is scripted to occur this way or whether its an positive by-product or even if its not just uncanny coincidence. The problem with Lag is that the PCs are lagged but the NPCs/ Monsters are not. That means that PCs dont get to react whilst monsters hack them apart. This, as it would seem, does not have to be the case and would certainly mean that lag was less frustrating. If everyone pauses at the same time, as frustrating as that is, at least the resolve is a level playing field. I cant say how this was achieved but its certainly worth investigating.
