Smilies: To make these work, use the text after the smilie with spaces instead of quotes
":)"
";)"
":("
":P"
More smilies here
Colour:
For color, put < color="red" >text you want< /color >, without spaces after the "<" obviously repalce the red with the color you want. You can also use hex codes (i think) to do colours. I dont know how to determine them but the syntax is #'hex1''hex2''hex3' inplace of the text colour. For example "#e80808".
Bold Italic and Underline
for bold < b >text< /b > without the spaces after the "<" for italics < i >text< /i > without spaces for underline < u >text< /u > without spaces to mix, < b >< i >< u >text< /u >< /i >< /u > without spaces.. and make sure to put the end tags in the reverse order of the beginning tags
Links: Like this < a href="http://vives.dyndns.org" >Link Description< /a > it is important you have the 'http://' in the web address
More Codes here

I moved this post from where it was so you all can see it and learn how to do all the colours and other formatting of posts in this new system. Feel free to add any other codes you find.
For example..
Changing font size
This can be done with the colour tag. After you put in the colour you want, add a semi-colon, then 'font-size', a full colon, and the size you want and then close the quotes. The default size is 12. example < color="black;font-size:14" > Text < /color >

Re: Testing new forum features Posted: 28 Aug 2003 01:16 AM |
i just added the ability to wrap text with 'quote' tags as such:
this may be someone else's post
and it auto-colors it. slightly better than doing it manually. soon i'll add a button that addes in the quote tags for you.
so the tags are:
< quote > this may be someone else's post < /quote >
((no spaces next to the < and >))
also, it nests very well, as such:
this may be someone else's post this is a quote of someone quoting someone else
so this would be:
< quote > < quote >this may be someone else's post</ quote > this is a quote of someone quoting someone else </ quote >

Actually, one more change to this (when I get home tonight) is to keep the colors consistent. So, if your text was the first one quoted, then in all of the subsequent quotes, it'll always remain olive. That way when looking at this history of quotes, the same quote will always have the same color. So, expect that later this eve

Ok, this feature has been added in. I will start to make several replies to myself here to illustrate. |

So, this shows how the nesting of quotes works.

Ok, last sample.
Now one note is that I've been adding in the < quote > < /quote > tags manually. I'll be adding a "Quote" button/link for forum replies to do this for you. Currently this is being done in PMs.

Testing a quote of colored contents.
[Edit: appears that color in messages overrides quotation colors. Just to let you folks know!] |

Forum features: Colours Posted: 24 Sep 2003 12:26 PM |
Here is a handy reference of different colour tags I basically cut and paste from a University of Texas website (here) That shows the many different colours that are possible.
Named Colors
These 16 colors can be specified by name; they were chosen for the HTML 3.2 recommendation because they are the standard colors supported in the Windows VGA palette.
aqua black blue fuchsia green gray lime maroon navy olive purple red silver teal white yellow RGB Hexadecimal Coded Colors
Colors may also be specified by six-character codes representing their relative red/green/blue (RGB) values, where the possible values for each color component are 00, 33, 66, 99, cc, and ff. The six charts below display the 216 possible colors in the Netscape/MSIE palette with their hexadecimal RGB codes (a seventh chart displays the gray scale). In each chart the blue value is constant, the vertical axis represents increasing red values, and the horizontal axis represents increasing green values. The six charts can be visualized as a cube composed of 216 cubelets; the total cube has six layers of thirty-six cubelets; each cubelet is a unique color. Using this metaphor, black (#000000) in the lower left of the first chart is one corner of the cube and white (#ffffff) in the upper right of the last chart is the opposite corner of the cube; the cubelets running through the body of the cube in a line from black to white comprise the gray scale. ff0000 ff3300 ff6600 ff9900 ffcc00 ffff00 cc0000 cc3300 cc6600 cc9900 cccc00 ccff00 990000 993300 996600 999900 99cc00 99ff00 660000 663300 666600 669900 66cc00 66ff00 330000 333300 336600 339900 33cc00 33ff00 000000 003300 006600 009900 00cc00 00ff00 ff0033 ff3333 ff6633 ff9933 ffcc33 ffff33
