DMs: Scoopers Shovel
Posted: 14 Jul 2004 12:25 PM
Below is a copy of the PM I recieved from Vindicta regarding his PC Scoopers, and his search for his best friend, the shovel. From talking with a few of you in IRC yesterday, I believe this is something we can go ahead with.

A shovel will need to be created, though I don't know if it will be useable as a weapon, equipable certainly, but I don't believe the 2da's provide it with any attack dice to cause any damage when used. I don't know if it would be of any value or not, but one thing that we can do is make an NPC using the null human model and equip it with the shovel. Having it summonable from the actual shovel, it could follow him around. Though I don't know if this would be in keeping with with what the attachment between scoopers and the shovel actually is.

Anywho, however wants to take care of this, let me know what you want for a shovel, and I'm sure we can do it.

(note, this is two seperate PM's that I spliced together)

Though I do not know if this is your domain, from what I understand, you are the player contact DM. A few weeks ago, I posted the story of a Gnome Barbarian by the name of Scoopers (for description, please refer to post of same name). I was hoping that I might be able to work with a DM so as to create a quest where he recovers his best friend, a shovel, by the name of "Property of Port Royale Sanitation Dept., Model No. 0000-3." As he lost it in the Lizardman Caves of Blackstone Swamp, and to the Lizardman King, it would most likely be in said location, in his possession.

Though this is somewhat of an endeavor structured for a single player, I would welcome any help from players whom would like to assist Scoopers on his quest to recover Model No. 0000-3. Scoopers is 6th level(approaching 7th), so players that are not within that range would either make the experience too difficult or too easy (just as a side note). There have been a few who have offered help already, but they have yet to be contacted. Last of all, and most likely least to be implemented, the shovel was supposed to be something of a family heirloom--perhaps a magical shovel of 'vast importance,'capable of combat usage. So, if it would be at all possible to create some sort of spade-weapon, well that would just be super freakin' cool! But, I digress. Could you take a look at the post and let me know of its feasibility, or direct it to whomever would be most appropriate? Thank you.

This is something I'd been thinking of myself, so I'd like to do it. If damage dealing and/or other properties could be added I'd suggest +1 enchant (since basic +1 weapons are fairly easy to find) but I'd also add some sort of disease or poison based damage bonus, considering what the shovel has been used for. Alternately or in addition, it could give low-med light and/or a small strength bonus.
Hmm...I'll think more on the quest itself, and post my plans here. If anyone has ideas/thoughts, feel free to post 'em.

Second thought, if it can't be made a weapon, it could give light, a +2 to strength, and allow him to cast disease say..3/per day or somesuch?

Not quite sure why a shovel should give diseases? Or is that from the rust or something? What i do know, and what maybe helps, is that one of PhoenixD's characters wielded an umbrella, as a weapon. With uhm flame weapon on it and such he made a +1 or +2 out of it even.. Maybe something we could use in this case.

Subject: Scoopers
Message: [Message Sent to All DMs]

Previously this subject would be covered by Alosynth, but as he has not been active since last September, I am addressing this to anyone with whom it may be appropriate. At the time he had informed me that something concerning this subject was being worked upon, but nothing has arisen since. Given his inactivity, I can only assume that the subject was either discarded or forgotten. As a precursor to this request, please refer to the post titled "Scoopers" for background information regarding this character.

As his shovel, "Property of Port Royale Sanitation Model No. 0000-3" was lost in the lizardman tunnels (skaly tunnels) to the Lizardman King (whom i have sometimes seen labeled as Chieftan and sometimes King, depending on the circumstances), he has been going on expeditions into the tunnels with the help of others to recover his bestest friend. Each time he turns up with nothing, throwing him into temporary depressed state. So far, the explanation given by others (PCs) is that the skalies probably traded it away. Either its location is still within the tunnels, or somewhere on the far reaches of Vives.

If it would be possible, could a quest, single or multipart, be worked upon to find Model No. 0000-3, wherever it may be? I know it would spoil the fun to inform me of it directly, but I have been anxiously anticipating an answer to this question since his conception. I have told his story to more PCs than I can remember, all of which constantly ask Scoopers if he has found the location of his shovel, and offering their assistance to do so. As such, it would be an event that would include multiple PCs as thread to the rich tapestry that is Vives storytelling. Please, let me know what you think.

Thank you.

Oooh, it sounds insane. I'll take it if no one else will! Erm, if he's on at the times I'm on, that is.

Go for it. He is US based if memory serves so should be plenty of time overlap. He's a great rp'er, should be fun.

Cheers,

The "holdup" on this quest was because they wanted to try to create a "holdable, wieldable" shovel for Scoopers.

Unfortunately, that cannot be done without the help of someone who knows modelling and a new hak pack to include the item.

Model No. 0000-3 Quest

Talked to Vindicta, and he's happy to find a "broken" version that he can't equip until an equippable can be brought IG. This'll be a quest of much hilarity and insanity, in two parts. The first part (see link above) is Scoopers being reunited with the shovel, only—alas—to find that it is broken.

The second part will take place whenever we can get a holdable shovel for him, and it will be about the fixing of Model No. 0000-3.

Off the top of my head, here's what I had for the 'broken' version:
* Inventory shovel (not equippable—the one that just sits in your inventory)
* Bull's Strength 1/day
* 30 charges with:
- Expeditious Retreat (2 charges/use - ie a max of 15 possible uses)
- Haste (3 charges/use - ie a max of 10 possible uses)
* That comes to a level requirement of approx. Level 11

I originally had iron guts, cure disease and stinking cloud, but after I read Vindicta's story, realised that the ones I've listed above would be more appropriate. If it's over/underpowered, speak now and it shall be changed, yus.

Vindicta Meus:

Hey Starry! I wasn't sure when you wanted to continue the Model No. 0000-3/ Evil Sheep that mutate into insane Tyrannosaur Plot, but Balthor has helped Scoopers repair Model No. 0000-3 a bit recently. I posted some time ago about asking for help with the situation, but I think Leon Black took it from the Trading Post. I have very little time to play this week, so anything long-term is probably off limits. Anyway, let me know what you think. Thanks!

I said I wasn't sure what the situation was with being able to make holdable farm implements. If anyone's got any idea whether holdable shovels now exist, can you please tell me? Ta.

I'll check myself when I get home but I didn't see any way of doing it.

Okay. Shovels are in but they are Large weapons, meaning Scoopers won't be able to wield it anyway. Gah. :(

Having said that, I might take a peek at the Tenser's Transformation spell and see if I can script something similar, where the Inventory shovel can be used 1/day to transform into a big creature of mass destruction wielding a shiny shovel...

And then investigate either resizing the shovel tool to medium for the next hak update, orrrr find a way to fiddle with the Sappers Shovel so that it can be popped into the hak (I hate override, have I ever mentioned that?)

Have some nasty individual smash the shovel to smithereens and tell him to use a sword. Much, much easier.

Does someone have a small character?

Let's make a shovel and see if it works. I recently patched the server baseitems.2da to make the shovel one size smaller to see if it could be wieldable by the little ones.

While we created many of the stories, often some of the players would themselves create something that we all wanted a part of.

Mykal did so with his Paladin (hence the easter eggs of the three glasses in the bar) but the story of Scoopers and his faithful model #3 is one I remember fondly. The DMs just watched that one grow on its own.
