Bug with the barter window Posted: 21 Jun 2004 10:31 AM |
Don't know of a good place to post this so I'll just put it here. I was in the OOC players lounge today and was going to show a few things to a friend. I opened up the barter window and put the things there, and I found that after about 1 minutes time the items started to disappear one at a time. First I thought it was a DM prank, but I (and the other guy) put some other things there and they also disappeared (no they did not go to the inventory, simply just disappeared). I don't know if this happens in other areas as well, just want to give people a heads-up (perhaps some sort of clean-up script is running loose?).

| Not really a bug, but by design. In the OOC area, a process runs that is designed to prevent passing of items through either trade or dropping on the floor. Vives' staff can provide more detail/clarification if necessary. The reason this was put in place was to hinder or prevent several exploit scenarios with passing items between players or passing items between a player's PCs. |

Thats about it in a nutshell. It also prevents players from useing the OOC area as a 'pocket plane' for dropping off heavy items from one side of Vives, then picking them up again when you get to the other side of the world.
Originally we had done this by saving your inventory to the database and reloading it as you left, but some bugs were introduced to that with the ability to add item properties to items that came with HotU. Since the added item properties arn't stored in the database (it would take up too much processes to check every item for added properties when they are saved) we ended up with some issues that Phoenix Dias can attest to. |

| I see.. well it would be nice if there was a sign warning people about this since its a pretty major thing to loose your items... |

Is the "Mage tower in a pocket" Also protected by such designs? It was always a theory I was never willing to test, and I never wanted to ask of it (as I'm doing now) just in case the theory was introduced to the wrong hands (Exploiters)
Since coincidence has not yet given me the opportunity of 2 simultaneous Mage tower openings at once, I cannot be certain of this, but I had always assumed the "Mage tower" existed as a single area, thus all using it would inevitably be united in the plane, allowing for all sorts of crazy things (Like Mage tower Ore Jumping)
I hope that now that I've mentioned it, proper precautionary measures will be installed... otherwise.. begin throwing the tomatoes now *Holds out arms in surrendering trust* |

| There are a handful of different Mage Tower 'areas', that coupled with their high cost, its not a concern. |
