Limping carefully across his room, Shaz'jen leaned heavily on his staff, sucking in his breath as his right arm ached and throbbed. He eyed the huge, untidy pile of papers and shook his head, irritated that he was currently in too much pain to even attempt to write down the night's cataclysmic events.

Malagard was finally dead, and Dancer, the Sword of Two Halves, was finally broken.

Siann had taken Shaz'jen's bed, and was sleeping peacefully, the usual lines of fear and worry on his forehead gone. He was greviously wounded, with broken limbs and a great chest wound from Dancer's vile blade that would take a long time to heal. But at least his mind was at rest. Valia was free of Dancer, and Siann was free of both Dancer and Malagard. The shattered hilt of the ancient Azure's Light was clutching tightly in one, six-fingered hand.

"What will you do?" Shaz'jen had asked, before Siann had slept.
"I will hang up my blade...as I swore to Aros." the other had smiled, weakly. "No more, little brother, am I a slave to anyone. No more." And he had slept with an easy, serene expression on his face.

Shaz'jen smiled. He understood Siann's wish, never to cause hurt or pain or harm to no living thing, again. After all he had been through, he deserved a life of peace. Shaz'jen didn't share Siann's wish; a life of pacisfism and peace sounded...boring. But it was what Siann wanted, and Shaz'jen was happy to listen to Siann's dream. Already Siann had spoken eagerly of discussing a life of tilled earth and growing plants with Coruva. Shaz'jen didn't doubt that as soon as Siann was back on his feet, Coruva and Avari would be getting a visit.

He leaned over with his good arm, snatched a pile of papers and left the room after blowing out the torch. Perhaps he could write left handed for a while.

Loli was fast asleep on the bed, when he went inside her room. She was worn, exhausted, from the day - and content and full after Elven Wine and her stew. Shaz'jen had woken up as she had drifted to sleep. One hand, even in sleep, rested on her stomach. Shaz'jen kept quiet - his speciality - and drifted to the nearby desk, not wishing to wake her.

The day was quite the blur to him. Especially through the pain of a broken right arm, a broken wing, and a badly twisted foot. But...details. Shaz'jen was quite happy to be alive and for Malagard to not be. Even if it meant him having to use his staff to hobble around with for a few weeks, it was a worthy price.

The shattering of Dancer - the splitting of the dark blade from the holy hilt. Shaz'jen had seen the moment when Malagard, wielding the dark sword, had struck Dancer deep into Siann's chest, and how the joint in the blade had glowed. He remembered the words Loli said Valia had whispered: "A blade of two halves must be broken in two halves." And he understood why Dancer was made undone only when buried into Siann's flesh. Siann was born of two halves; good and evil. As the dual sword Dancer had struck, it had been within another being of two halves. And so, the sword had the potential to break apart. Which the arrows of Elvalia, the bolt of Macha, and the spells of Xaranthir had done.

Malagard was dead. Again, Shaz'jen had his theories on how the shattering of Dancer had made Malagard vulnerable. He had the feeling that the power of Malagard was bound to the blade. As long as the two had been together, Malagard had been immortal, invincible. Break the blades, and so Malagard was broken.

Shaz'jen sat down, leaned back, groaned as his wing ached, and sighed. None of the people who had gone would return from this day unchanged. Avari and Coruva - granted a vision of a home and two children. Callia and Chandler, another pair of lovers who had faced a great evil and survived. Luther and Sinjin, two great and powerful monks, walking away with a deep understanding of the great event. Macha, the bard, had skipped away with a song lifting her heart. Xaranthir had touched the dark blade of Shadow's Fall, untempered by Azure's Light, as he had pulled the blade from Siann's chest - he now had a black mark upon his hand to match the white of Theus. Cybella, who too had witnessed the events. And Elvalia, whose swift arrows had sought out the servants of Malagard. The elven maidens had wept long, joyous tears for the freedom of Siann and Valia. No...no one would leave, unchanged.

Except, possibly, Shaz'jen. It was the way he was.

The news that Loli was pregnant had been, however, enough of a shock to have him reaching for the Elven Wine. Or perhaps something harder. Like pure undiluted alcohol.

Oh well. It would be dealt with when it happened.
