Amanda got up and looked around, holding her forehead with both hands. She had been behind the stage controls, turning the special effects off for the night. The Rotten Potatoes had been in top form that night. They really were a bunch of little cruds, but they paid her well. If all those screaming groupies could only hear how crude these guys were backstage. Body sounds were high humor for them, on the road. But who else wanted to hire someone who loved to make illusions seem real, in such a dramatic way?
She had heard the thunderstorm outside intensifying. Suddenly, a thunderbolt struck the electronics in front of her. The smell of melting plastic, hot metal ... and here she was. Amanda took her hands down from her face and brushed her hair back. Her fingers struck her ears strangely. Her eyes widened as she felt them over. Pointed ears! -Really- pointed ears! She had always had oddly shaped ears, but these ... what -had- happened to her? And where on Earth was she?
Not on Earth at all, she soon discovered. First a strangely garbed woman made prophecies over her. It confused her, but she stayed to listen. Then the funny little men in the store that she found up the stairs. After buying some food, she went out the door into what looked like a historical park. She wandered from place to place, encountering two more of the funny little men. Along the shoreline she saw a wreck. And rats! Huge ones!
The rats ran towards her, their wicked eyes glinting like moonlight. Amanda held her hands out before her in a motion of denial and screamed. As if in answer, a flying reptile appeared and began attacking the rats. And electricity flew from her fingertips! Amanda stood and stared at the dead rats, then at her hands. It seemed she could weave illusions here too, much more realistically than back home.
The little reptile flew to her, and landed on her shoulder. She smiled at it. "What shall I call you?", she asked. After some thought, she decided. "I shall call you Eureka, for I have found what I was looking for all of my life. And no more smelly old Rotten Potatoes for me." |

Amanda stood up from the thin bedroll and stretched. Rolling it into a bundle, she sat back down on it and began to eat some of the food she had bought from the street vendor. She thought over the occurrences of the previous day. Obviously this fairy tale world was a lot more dangerous than the ones in Disneyland. Plus, she hadn't been thinking very clearly. She hadn't realized how angry those ... Elves ... were about her not knowing the Elven god until it was too late and they had stomped off. Elven was apparently what she was here. Probably what she had been back home, but with no magic on Earth her ears had been as stunted as her magical powers.
And ... raising from the dead. Her eyes widened as she remembered. She had -died- from that spider bite. The priestess of the Elven god ... no, -one- of the Elven gods, there were two ... had brought her back to life. And then stomped out with her friends when Amanda had revealed her total ignorance about all things Elven. Except the language. She could understand that. Presumably speak it as well, but she hadn't tried. She needed to remedy that ignorance. The next lot might kill her, for all she knew, if she didn't have the correct answers ready.
Asking the priestess in the temple in which she had slept resulted in one clear answer. Information was to be found in Midor, in the library. Midor could be safely reached by ship, for 150 gold pieces. If she sold most of what she owned, she could afford to make the trip. Well, as she saw it, she could not afford to -not- go. Ignorance would be her death, here as at home, whether from dish-sized spiders or from worshippers of gods she'd never heard of. |

| I have meet her but i was a little surprised you where told to discontinue the character. It seems that thinking of new characters is frowned on here. Thats a shame I thought you RPed it really well it seemed a little harsh for all to wonder off. |

Re: Amanda Stark Posted: 21 Mar 2004 02:18 PM |
the char was not 'shot down' cuz Slink wasnt RPing her well.
the char is being stopped/disacontinued because Vives is a setting. and in Vives' setting/campaignworld/w/e you dont have planes, you dont have other dimantions, and you dont have other worlds. so - you cant make a char that came from 'Earth' nor a char that came form the future. as nice as the idea might be - it does not fit Vives.
on the same note - the DM staff will come out with an offical rule about Characters' origin (soon enough I hope) (i.e. you wont be able to make planes related chars [as right now you cannot make tieflings/aasimers/etc - but a general rule] and might not be able to create chars that come from other continents etc [that's not setteld yet])
I guess you will need to wait till the policy will be released

What about charachters who have been to other continents?
This rule, if passed, would spell the end for my charachter, would negate much roleplay I have done and ruin an entire storyline I have been writing.

What about Korshuvar, who from my understanding is a character from another plain?
As for characters from other continents, I don't think that should be limited so long as specific details of those continents are not specified. Or if they are, limited specifics are issued. That way, we can work around any characters that are not originally from the Vives continent.
But, that's just my opinion, for what little it's worth.

I think the character was a nice idea, with a nice plot/ character back ground.
I have to agree with the DMs on this though. I think it could "possibly" be a little disruptive. I think "ordering" you to shut down was is perhaps a little harsh. |

A puzzle that fits together perfectly doesn't fit another piece from another puzzle.
Give the DMs and storywriters a break. They endure enough sulking from other consistently contradicting wishes.

yes - I agree. IMO we need to have the main plus 3-4 detailed continents. and ppl should only come from there.
What about Korshuvar, who from my understanding is a character from another plain?
got no clue who's Korshuvar =p
What about charachters who have been to other continents?
that's one of the problems with such a rule. IMO the best way is that such a rule will be stated. and there will be 'known' islands where chars came from or can come from. players who will want an island to be 'known' and officaly be an island could contact the DMs and it might be IG.
the main idea for such a rule.. is that we dont want chars that are not from 'Vives'. and by that I mean - chars that will come out of other worlds or even mods... and will talk about gods that doesnt exist.. then other PCs will believe them and there will be quite a mess with the knowledge IG.. as an example - characters coming from 'Earth' that talks about 'rock and roll' and 'electronics' etc.. (like this one)
This rule, if passed, would spell the end for my charachter, would negate much roleplay I have done and ruin an entire storyline I have been writing.
I can assure you that we wont let this happen. the rule is not suposed to destroy chars that are out there for quite some time.. it is suposed to prevent new 'wierd' chars from being created. so all the info about chars that are around will be considered. (tho unforunatly it will end some chars.. again, like Amanda Stark)

Re: Amanda Stark Posted: 22 Mar 2004 09:01 AM |
Korshuvar is a DM-run character who's a shadow-made-flesh (do a search on a thread about "the Weave" for the full story). He came here from another plane. His ppl travel through different planes.
he has appeared more than once IG. i think its one of those odd consistency moments that happens from time to time when you have many cooks over 1 stew pot.

Re: Amanda Stark Posted: 22 Mar 2004 09:15 AM |
My apologies, my intent was not to critisize or point out inconsistanies.
In fact, I am a great supporter of having no characters from other D&D realms in Vives. It ruins the immersion for me, making this world not as unqiue and special as it should be.
I do not doubt aht Slink RP'd this character flawlessly, nor do I dispute that the concept is interesting (for another take on fantesty meeting RL, read the novel Grunts! The story of a band of orcs finding a cache of enhanted US Marine gear. The enchantment, and thus the hook, is that those that possess this "treasure" are doomed to take on the characteristics of the previous owners. But I digress)
Now this doesn't mean I don't like the idea of other Planes. The DM that thought up Korshuvar has done, from my limited experience, an excellent job with the story. I would had to see the idea of other realms totally removed. There is always story potential that coudl be mined from such concepts.
Perhaps this is a case of wanting everything, but there's no reason we can't, at least in this situation. I would only suggest that PC's avoid making characters from other planes as such beings are best left as DM plot devices.
So that's my two bits...I'll go back to lurking now,
