Apologies
Posted: 20 Feb 2004 11:26 AM
I want to take this opprotunity to apologieze to a few people. Those that have RP'ed with me have probably noticed I have a tendency to log out at a moments notice. This can occcur during an adventuring group or a good RP session. Either way, I am sorry that I have done this, but I can't promise it will stop.

You see, whenever I have to log off it's usually to attend to my baby. I only log on when he's sleeping, which is why I have such odd hours. Bu when he wakes up (from a nights sleep or a nap in the day) I have to get to him. I can't expect everyone to understand why this is important (I would hope most people have at least a general sense of this importance) but it is what it is.

So for those who have been frustrated by my frequent log off's when in the middle of something, I apologies. Hell, I can't even think of a good RP explination for Mykal's sudden exits. It's not like he's Clark Kent and needs to run off to change into blue tights (hmm, blue tights...nah.)

If you're read this far, thanks for listening. And thanks for the good times in Vives.

You dont need to apologise...Your baby is much important then a game..if people cant understand that well..hell with them.

Why search around when the answer is within you...?

Well I am in the same boat. I have in the past used the players stone to go to that strange place in the sky. I haven't been in parties much so I don't know how this is received. Does anyone have any thoughts how to best handle such real world priorities?

I wish I knew what I was supposed to do.

I agree, no need for an apology for such an important reason. It is nice to know the reason is important, though, and not just that you dropped the TV remote behind the sofa and wanted to change the channel. *winks and grins* Hope to encounter you IG again some time.

Off hand, I'd say just take care of them. I just thought it was important for those I've RP'd with to understand what was happening. THat way, when I logged on again in the future, they hopefully would still want to RP and would help make it easier to explain why I suddenly "vanished"

Yes, the OOC lounge has been a friend of mine as well. It's a nice touch this place has.

We need to play together sometime, devilsadvoc8, if only because we both have babies. Congrats, btw!

This takes priority over any game, so don't worry about it at all. Going to the lounge is a very good solution though in my humble opinion. Remember that this is a game to have fun, real life concerns, such as taking care of babies is a lot more important. I'd be worried if you said differently ;)

Happy gaming to all! :)

I guess my post wasn't as clear as I wanted it to be. Of course my two little ones are going to be my priority, but what I meant to ask was:

Does anyone have any suggestions as to the best way to drop out (Player stone or just drop entirely)? When working with a DM should I let them know and the rest of the party that I may drop out unexpectantly and then come back in? or should I just let the DM know only so as to stay IC as much as possible?

I would hope that people don't think I was doing this to avoid encounters and I don't want to ruin the experience of others which is why I have rarely partied up.

I wish I knew what I was supposed to do.

IMO, use the player stone, then toggle yourself as AFK. Of course, if it's an emergency or something, just unplug the dang compTongue out. But personally, if I had something to attend to such as a baby, I know sending myself to the OOC lounge as AFK also gives the other members a heads up, and they can either choose to chill in the OOC lounge and whack each other to death or just keep on going. Again, situations like this don't need any kind of apology, we all understandSmiley.

This goes to the person who was going to skip work for an adventure. Don't do thatTongue out.

I generally send a tell to my party members explaining that I have to leave and why, then say my goodbyes in character. If have time I run to a safe place or at least out of sight and exit. You might be surprised how understanding folks are. I think most of us do have real lives outside of the game ... Ken

I just thought about skipping work ... I wouldn't do it ... especially if a GM tells me not to!

I suppose the point of the post wasn't to ask whether RL took priority over the game. To me it's obvious that the RL always takes presidences. I hope no one took it that way. I'd hate to be thought of as that guy that thought gaming was more important then his child :)

But these are all good comments, and I appreciate them. Thanks,

Mykal

That's the other aspect of the OOC room. It's a safe place to hide in a RL emergency, even if the server resets or the party has to go on without you, leaving you all alone.
