ModuleUpdates: 1.57
Posted: 12 Feb 2004 04:02 PM
There's a couple of substantial updates / changes from 1.54 to 1.57. Most notably the new set of voice commands; please read on for details. And special thanks to slink for CNR tunings!

- CNR updates. Tailor's loom and ingot cyclers are tuned up, the latter broken down into several recyclers (Base Metal Recycler, Noble Metal Recycler, Exotic Metal Recycler) to circumvent TMI errors. Many thanks to slink for finding a solution to this.

- Voice emote / summon speak / racial language / command system. This has been worked up quite abit; it is no longer necessary to use the voice summoner in your inventory, and it'll still work all the time you're in-game. *, ;, and [] works as usual. The new addition is a series of voice commands that renders flipping thru the widgets obsolete; the commands are as follows:

* : preceding a line with * activates the emote parsing system.
; : preceding a line with ; throws your voice onto your summon.
[ : enclosing a phrase with [] activates the racial language.
/pcinfo lets you find out where other characters are on Vives at this time
/camera lets you fade out temporarily for picture taking
/lounge teleports you to the Out-of-Character Player's Lounge
/note creates a persistent parchment on your character
/subdue lets you toggle subdue mode on/off
/bug lets you summon a Bug Reporter
/setdesc followed by text allows you to set a persistent description of your character. For example, by typing "/setdesc Fluffy" your description is set to 'Fluffy'
/readdesc allows you to read the description of up to 3 PCs within 10 meters.
/help gives you in-game help of the voice system.
/rip (DM-possessed creatures only) No respawn for said creature.

- there's now some working archery targets nearby Neek's bowstore

- Kusin has expanded his Oxen travels to Buckshire!

- DMs: there's now exploders / subdue gadget / DM wand on every spawned NPC. Voice commands would work as well.

- misc. performance tunings.

Wow.. Great stuff Ari. Not to mention all the code cleanup you've done to greatly reduce lag of late, these tools will certainly prove very usefull. For one thing, I'll have three more quickslots that I've currently been using for the bug reporter, voice summon, and player info stone that will now be free.

One suggestion though for the /readdesc command. Perhaps if you do /readdesc <player name> It would be more precise on who you get the info from.

My question is on the persistant note. What does that do? Make a parchment that you can write to?

*crossing fingers it'd work*

That was my original thinking, to use the name; on second thought, there are many characters with unpronounciable names (ASCII characters that most aren't able to type off-hand), hence the decision.

The /note merely creates a persistent parchment on you, just like the ones you're used to in-game. I suppose this would help its availability (I find myself wishing to drop a note at someone's mailbox, often the closest place with parchment being far far away)

We'll see how it works in about 10 minutes when I load it onto the server. Great stuff Big Smile

Kusin goes to Buckshire? What about redoing the travel routes so Kusin stayed on the southern side (Midor, Paws, Bregodim) and the inner sea was the main ferry system for Buckshire, Ladriel, PR, and Ferein? (With PR gotten to from Midor in the docks).

*nods* I'd like to see that in the long run, but as a temporary measure, it will do to have Kusin in Buckshire.

Cheers Aria! All of this sounds like great additions. Im very partial to description changes myself, as I think that for many of us, what we see as our characters outward appearance might have changed since we first logged on, or some events may have altered them slightly, changing the body language they show to others.

Now, a small request along the same lines. Maybe Im the only one, but I wrote my own description so long ago, that I don't even remember what it says anymore. Any way we could add a command line in that would show us our own desc? Something like /mydesc?

Irregardless...great improvements!

As a clarification, I dont believe that this command changes the description that is shown when you 'examine' another PC, but sets a description of your character into your database entry. This would then be shown in the server message window presumably when you use /readdesc. I could of course be wrong, but that was my understanding of how it would work when Aria was discussing it awhile ago.

-.-

The voice commands do work in 1.58, but you need to first summon the listener to you using the widget. And /setdesc doesn't work (even tho read does!)

The parchments are apparently broken Sad

Yes, the write-able parchments have been broken ever since the new CNR went into place way back when. The CNR version overwrote them.

Dieties preserve us from the evil chaotics named Lag, Crash, and Server Reset.
PCs: Loli Dankirk (Ftr 18/Brd 8.5 @ 1777 hrs) left Vives for Origins; Gnora Gnombody (Sor 5 @ 54 hrs) and Amanda Stark (Wiz 3 @ ~10 hrs) left Vives for Feline Providence.

Now hopefully everything works with 1.59... Smiley

About Coruva's question, no, it does not modify the NwN description (that one that you get when you 'examine'). Instead it allows you to store your own description into our DB which can then be retrieved by /readdesc. /readdesc always display your own description first, and then up to 3 other PCs within 10 meters.

The voice summoner gadget is a keeper now, for it will jump a summoner to you regardless of whether you have one already.

Oh, and ladies can go find the bad thugs in the great plains Wink

How does it deal with multiple voices? Previously we had little echoes all over the place with a group of people, each with a "bug".

I think that's solved on its way from 1.54 to 1.59, somewhere. If this recurs please post it here. When I hop in as DM last night the problem seem to have gone away already.

There's an instance of it in the log I sent to you today, when someone spoke in a language. I did only see it once, but then again I spent a lot of time in silence today.

They work! :D

There are a couple of minor aesthetic details that needs to be tuned up more, but everything said in the first post works now Smiley

So excited. Just took a Kusin ride to buckshire, dyed a cotton dress, and left a message (created by /note) at Wendy's mailbox Smiley

Oh, another side-note about server lags etc. - please try your best not to log on/off unless it's necessary, as those spikes really hurts. Tell the folks who regularly log off-on to not do that as well Smiley

Have fun!

Oh, and, for all these commands you can precede it with /dm, so they don't get in the way of your RP. (for example, when you meet someone you haven't "met" before, you can type /dm /readdesc to read their description non-intrusively)

Well Hurrah!

One question about the description.. is there a length limit? Is it a one word thing, or can I put a nice 300 word thing in there to describe what my PC looks like that day in minute detail?
