Here is a PM I've got today. I want the person who looted someone else's room to PM me immediately. If I have to catch you - and I promise you I will - no matter who you are and what the DMs say, I will give you a perma admin-ban.

Subject: Serious Problem
Message: [Message Sent to All DMs]

Quies' room door (the one requiring the key which only she has) simply wasnt there. the doorway was left wide open. Her persistant chest, looted of everything.

Dias was the one who first noticed it and notified me to come look. So if it helps, there is a witness.

So now my question is, how will this problem be handled? Is there a way to track this and find out who did it? I'd really like to see something done about this. I'm extremely upset at all of this, since this all happened about 30 minutes ago...

A very ticked off,
-SpaciousQ

ps. apologies if the tone of this is a bit harsh. not in the greatest of moods right now.

As well a cautionary note to other player with characters that has homes: be wary until we can go thru and see to that the doors are not bashable.

It'd be great if you can PM me if you have a home as well, so it's easier to go thru them in the toolset.

A more than upset Aria.

I hereby do confirm that I witnessed the above at 11 pm GMT+1

The locked door was simply gone. The other door was open. I used Tell to ask Quies if she was in there and perhaps it was a bug, but then Quies was still in Mineath.

Edit: I tried to bash my own door both physically and magically and nothing worked.

Some doors are as a matter of oversight... I apologize dearly to Quies for that. Some trust are never meant to be breached.

I was genuinely upset about this earlier on, because I don't think any of us should do this. I'm not so upset anymore, because I've found who did it... and quite thankfully, it's someone who's in their "trial period". Needless to say this is to be dealt with.

Let me apologize to Quies once more, and whoever else got alarmed... think of it as we really do give a dang about what's going on to you folks Wink

Also my thanks Aria, although I was not the victim I was quite shocked to see the doors standing open...

Thank you for dealing with this!

T'is the admin's job Wink

Other players that has characters with home may want to try bashing their own doors, and let us know if they're collapsible ASAP.

Please note, perma-ban is a light offense from Aria on this. If we catch you, you will be made an example of by way of a nice little placeable to show people just what happens. You can do a LOT of things in Vives, but going into people's persistent chests or rooms is one thing that draws the line.

Since this was the unwitting fault of a newbie (of whom I seem to be becoming somewhat the champion) it might be worth the players handbook, or even the introductory walk, to have a set of commandments. Thos Shalt not Kill PCs, without.......

I know the players handbook has some Do's and Dont's throughout but in the wealth of information this can sometimes be missed. And since I do a lot of reading for a living if I can miss it anyone can.

As it happens Evaramier, in his first few days came across some rooms which he might otherwise have entered, save that it was not in his character. If he was a thief then you can bet your bottom dollar, he would have attempted entry. As a newbie, it is not necessarily clear where the boundaries lie in acceptible behaviour, or also even whether people are NPCs or PCs.

I was rather shocked when the librarian actually spoke to me!

So maybe some concise guidance to newbies might be of help. I am sure the poor little vagabond didnt really mean to upset one of the legendary characters of Vives. Or if he did he certainly has a pair!

I know I can be repetitive at times but Im not quite sure what happened there! Maybe an admin could delete it for me.

Although that of course would make this post gibberish and me appear insane so perhaps you could delete this post along with it.

The Essential Information Forum has posts in it from the Admins, detailing some of the more important guidelines (PvP, PP, Metagaming and OOC, for example).

Dieties preserve us from the evil chaotics named Lag, Crash, and Server Reset.
PCs: Loli Dankirk (Ftr 18/Brd 8.5 @ 1777 hrs) left Vives for Origins; Gnora Gnombody (Sor 5 @ 54 hrs) and Amanda Stark (Wiz 3 @ ~10 hrs) left Vives for Feline Providence.

Yup yup, it ain't called Essential Information for nuttin'Wink

However, I'll make a note to reference that forum in the handbook as well. Oh, and I did, awhile ago, pin all the very essential posts.

Have actually just noted the Essential Information section.

Have to confess though, I didnt really start checking out the forums till I had played for a few days at least.

So yes it was my fault for not checking but still think a Ten Commandments thing would be very helpful. Personally I think this should be in that little walky thing you do at the beginning. Its the most obvious place. You can make sure that people have read it before they enter and its a place where they will see and digest.

Newbies can need babysitting a little. I should know, I need it the most!

Well ... it may be a matter of personal preferance. How many people are going to read and absorb the Vives One Hundred Commandments one Examine Me at a time, when they really want to get through this silly introduction area and into the game? *grins*

I don't think that the post was meant in that way... just a point of not to be silly if the "ten commandments" idea is implemented. I, personnally belive it to be a good idea, as long as it is kept brief and to the point.

I agree. I like the intro. But as far as commandments go, they should be about the same as basic ethics go in real life.

Play the game, interact with the world, roleplay, roleplay, roleplay, but don't do anything that affects other PLAYERS that you wouldn't want them to do to you.

Whether you're an evil character or a newbie who doesn't understand, we're still all people playing a game, so don't try to abuse the system just because you can.

Xaranthir aka Dias couldn't care less if people see him as legendary or not, for he's not ;)

Dear Akril,

What troubles me about the behaviour of said player was not that he looted someone else's home unwittingly (naivity is no crime), but more that several hours later I witnessed him doing nothing but bashing at every door he can find, for the duration of time I was quietly observing. That is certainly no role-playing by my books.

It is not a matter of mechanics (the lack of knowledge thereof), but rather one concerning out-of-character mentality and behaviour. Having a character with name "Orag Rosamboughyoungamastat" has nothing to do with absence of knowledge, but rather a blatant disrespect for other players here.

Of course, the above represents only my personal opinion, and other Players/DM/Admins are entitled to theirs Wink

On the other hand... Perhaps the CHARACTER in a RP sense is deathly afraid of doors! And is on conquest to banish all of them from the lands! Entering the room to only be sure there are no unbashed doors on the other side.

Funny. It's like One Flew Over The Coocoo's Nest.... On the verge of either being entirely out of character or the best roleplaying of insanity ever!

Although, as you said, probably neither of those lofty goals :)

I believe I am in agreement with Fenarisk with regard to the "head on a spike" concept.

Perhaps a new room should be added to the ooc area. A room with the "head on a spike" for everyone that has committed a serious offense with a message about what they did and why they ended up on a spike.

It could be quite an instructive area for new players.

And, if Malagard takes control, we can put this outside the walls of Midor. (as it is, they are probably too goodie goodie for this sort of thing)
