Merum's Roleplayer of the week Posted: 31 Jan 2004 04:49 PM |
I've decided to begin recognizing people who I think bring excellent roleplay to the world. Each week, I'll identify a player or group of players who I think over the past week has demonstrated excellent Roleplaying, and added to the ambience of the world itself. Weekly winners will be announced on Saturdays in this thread, so keep an eye out!
Please keep in mind that this award is given by me, and thus, I must be able to see you roleplay, either in my player persona, or as DM. Obviously this limits what I can see to people who play during the times that I am on. Perhaps other DMs will begin awards in their timezones at their own discretion. Thanks for your understanding of the constraints. |

Well, now that I've teased you for several hours waiting to see who would be the first recipient of my weekly RP award, I'll end the suspense.
When I thought up this award, I realized that often the interaction between multiple players takes the RP far beyond what an individual can do. This week's winner(s) show that that is indeed true, and they are equally deserving of the honor. Without anymore blathering by me, this weeks winner(s) are...
drum roll
Chief and Elosas!
As Jessup the Younger and Pickston Rickticks, These two players have come up with what I think is one of the most inventive and entertaining roleplay stories I've seen in a long time. Their business, Pick and Jess's Wild Tours, more commonly known as PAJWT, has taken many an unsuspecting character on hair raising journeys, sometimes resulting in a trip to the infirmary (and the obligatory complimentary fruit basket that results). The group provides a fresh and interesting twist on simply exploring and learning about new areas.
These two players, who I almost never see out of character, play an entertaining "Odd Couple" of Half-Orc and Halfling, both of whose characters compliment the other very well. Along with their band of "Regulars" they travel to the far reaches of the world, and (usually) manage to bring their customers back. Their business is believable and funny, including such wonderful touches as the "waiver" characters need to "sign" prior to taking a tour.
Pickston is not generally universally loved among the citizens of the world, but that is far from the standard of excellent roleplaying. Love him or hate him, for those who truly understand Pickston's character, it's easy to see that he's played very, very well.
Jessup is also very well played, as a quiet, relatively intelligent (for a half-orc) monk who often serves as a foil for Pickston's boisterous nature. He is easily influenced by others however, and this can lead him into trouble. ;)
For their excellent portrayal of their characters and their burgeoning tour business, Chief and Elosas get my nod as the first "Roleplayers of the Week". Thanks for bringing the color that you bring to the server, guys! Keep up the good work! |

Well, I honestly couldn't agree anymore to this award. I've only met Pickston a few times, unfortunately, but today I met both him AND Jessup while I was traversing the mountains (and getting my bullocks handed to me on a silver platter by hill billies) with my comrade, Nero. Admittedly, and yeah it's the truth, I was totally cracking up behind my monitor and had to step away a few minutes and wipe a few tears away... yall should've been there... a true kodak moment! |

Merum's Roleplayer of the >oops< Month Posted: 08 Feb 2004 12:11 AM |
Howdy Folks!
Another Saturday has come around, and I've realized something over this past week. It was a busy one, and as a result, I've not had too many chances to observe a lot of players. Rather than try to make hasty decisions like this, I've decided to change things up a bit. "Merum's Roleplayer of the Week Award" is now going to be "Merum's Roleplayer of the Month Award", to give me time to see more players in action.
I hope this doesn't disappoint too many people, and I hope you understand my reasons for doing so. I want this award to really be for exceptional stuff, and I want to involve the most people I can, so a longer period of time is required to see more play. See you on the 1st!
I will, however call out some names of folks I've had the pleasure to see in action this week. Consider it a "nomination" for the monthly award. :)
Kayel Dunbrook Auberon Aurora Kriayna Wildberry
Good stuff folks! Thanks! |

*shocked* Why! I've only just got here. I'd like to thank the bardic academy.... And my homies in cell block 6... and... and....
*grins* Just kidding, thanks so much for the mention, Merum! It's a pleasure to be part of such a fine group. Everyone I've met has been fantastic.... Finally a server where people actually stop to chat and listen to a tale instead of saying 'I gotta get to lvl 9 tonight so I can use my phat bastie'
It's great to be part of it, in any way!

I agree with Auberon, it is a pleasure to play on this server. The players and the DMs make the world feel so real and enticing it's easy to RP well. I think you'll be seeing alot of me *winks*.

I can't say that, owing to me being GMT-bound, that I know all the players on the list for this month, but I most certainly agree with Auberon being chosen, and that's from merely reading his posts! |

I look forward to more interactions with Auberon in the future, preferably under more restful conditions than our first meeting. *winks* |

Merum's Roleplayer of the Month Posted: 03 Mar 2004 12:18 AM |
This month I've been fortunate to watch some exceptional roleplaying. The players we have here in Vives truly make this a wonderfully agonizing decision for me. I've seen so much good stuff! It's truly a pleasure to serve such wonderful players as we have here.
I've seen so many good players that this month's choice has been very difficult for me. However, two I have had the enormous pleasure to watch have stood out, in my mind...
The drum rolls....
Figleaf for Kayel Dunbrook
and
Flourite for Kriayna Wildberry
You can most times find Kriayna Wildberry and Kayel Dunbrook wandering together, usually getting up to some sort of mischief. Married in real life, you can sense the connection between them(although there's no evident romance there), which extends into their unhurried, relaxed style of roleplay.
Kayel Dunbrook is a wonderfully mischevious little chap, with fantastic personality. On an adventure, he's truly a joy to watch. Just watch out for your pies!
Kriayna Wildberry is a bubbly, curious, enthusiastic half-elf who is just plain fun to be around. She's a friendly, joyful type who doesn't shy away from anything.
As a player next to them, and as a DM watching them when they didn't know I was looking, these two are just plain fun to watch. Do yourself a favor and play with them sometime. Join me in thanking them for what they bring to Vives.
Others of note this month, who I'll be watching more of in the future *winks*...
Avari Lorellin Loli Dankirk Macha Sparrowsong Xaranthir
Thanks to all of you, and to all players here, who make Vives such a different place from the rest. I only wish I had more time to see you all. |
