I am not a developer, never used the NWN aurora toolset, but if it was up to me, I would make the AI for vives better, with the guards being a lot more intuitive and busy. Right now the guards are no different then the chests, other then they can't be trapped. It would add anohter element of balance. Also, create a justice system, so offenders can be punished, incarcerated, or such. An example is a sorta of quick incarceration for brandishing a weapon in town, or they may hand over the weapon. I am sure that this would take some DM involvment IG, so it is just an idea for you guys.
P.S. This is coming from a rogue as well!! |
So a cleric, a ranger, and a thief walk into a bar, which one am I?

Re: Better AI Posted: 24 Jan 2004 11:32 PM |
I think that has some great possibilities, though I dont know what would be involved. But somethings I could think of would be getting X warnings per day about brandisihing a weapon. Just a warning the first time, then a small fine, then either surrendering the weapon, or a short bit of jail time. You could do a similar sort of thing if they catch a pick pocket, or looter in the city, though lose the free warning.
Apprehension could just be through a convo, where you have a chance to bluff, intimidate, presuade etc, your way out of, or too a lower punishiment (though a failure should result in a harsher punishment). Running or resisting would make the guards hostile. I'd love it if it were possible to make it so after a certain period of time, they are no longer hostile, but will try to apprehend you next time they see you, and it would be even better if it were persistant across resets. Perhaps a token in the database the guards would look for on percieve. The token wouldn't have to have the crime info on it as resisting arrest would have the same punishment as say pickpocketing, only without the warnings.
I think that anything more serious than pickpocketing would have to be handled by a DM. |

| Hmm about the warning I dont know, when I pass from Elbereths Tears to Great Plains the guards always see me and warne me about the weapon despite the fact Im not going in. Sometimes people just dont remember, to put their weapon in the pack, and the warning helps, for me it would be a crime after the first part of Midor where those 3 guards keep walking, from their on should be a crime, before just a warning. |
Why search around when the answer is within you...?

One would soon remember if there was a penalty on it. |

| Well if your going to quote, quote the whole sentence, I said people sometimes forget to pack their weapons , and the warning helps. The job of a guard is to make sure that everything is fine and that law is aplyed, in this perspective, the job of a guard is to inform the citizens of a possible law infrigment not to wait them to infrige the law to lock them up. |

Re: Better AI Posted: 25 Jan 2004 01:24 PM |
a better example would be the two guards that stand OUTSIDE of midor. I dont think they should ever try to apprehend you for having a weapon out because well, thats not even inside midor yet. People will sometimes ride kusin from paws to midor and that could cause problems with people getting fined or something but since i remember hearing that kusin will soon be disappearing i dont think it would be a problem.
I'd actually like to see midor docks and port royal be linked up by ship rather than kusin. Paws and midor dont even need to be linked since there is on one area between then and there is not even any hostile npc's there. |

You mean creatures are throwing their Bows and slings at you instead of using them to fire arrows or bullets? |

Well that hardly seems an appropriate use of good weapons, so if that's the case, we'll definitely have to check the AI routines... ;P |

| Not only that, but they are using their potions and grenade-like weapons. How dare they use up their treasure before we can kill them to get it! *grin* |
Dieties preserve us from the evil chaotics named Lag, Crash, and Server Reset. PCs: Loli Dankirk (Ftr 18/Brd 8.5 @ 1777 hrs) left Vives for Origins; Gnora Gnombody (Sor 5 @ 54 hrs) and Amanda Stark (Wiz 3 @ ~10 hrs) left Vives for Feline Providence. |

| Yes I found the addition of certain monsters throwing stuff very cool (except when I first saw that rock of 20 tons land on Dias' archon :P). A very neat feature indeed!!!! |

I like the throwing of grenade like weapons, but I'm not as keen on giant rock throwing; where are they -getting- the rocks from?

The surounding landscape? Certainly not from a pouch because those rocks are 1/3rd the size of the giant. ;)
Use your imagination. They live in mountains, so there are rocks aplenty to be found. :) |

Yeah, they take em from the mountains they live on, just pick 'em up and toss em. Mountains are made of rock and stone you know...unless its Mount Garbage, and let's just hope THAT never ends up in Vives...

ROFL, that is a good one.
Do you have to give them these potions to drink in the toolset, or do they get them automatically based on their CR Ara? |
