Wishlist: Website Feature Requests Posted: 20 Jan 2004 06:00 AM |
Just a few thoughts on a feature I would like to see on the web - more Statistics!
I would like to know things like:
1/ The number of characters by classes
2/ The number of characters by level
3/ The number of characters by classes by level.
4/ How many characters progress in more than one class? two? three?
Perhaps you could put a limit on characters that have been active within the last month so you can get a snapshot of what people are doing at this time.
This information would be interesting to see for those (ok, me) who would like to see where they fit on the world's totem pole.
There are some possible "privacy" issues with this. Some people don't want their exact levels known. You could band the level reports together in groups of 3 or 5 to just give an overview.
Anyway, it's just a thought.

| i think that more detailed character statistics would prove to be usefull in future cases of debates and discussions. it would a the very least show to be very interesting from time to time. the whole privacy thing is pointless to start with, anyone who logs on knows all. |

Do they? If you check to see the character list, do you know what class they are unless they advertise it? If they have more than one class, do you know what levels they are in each class unless they advertise it? It might be possible since I have not explored all of the customizations yet.
Personally, I would prefer to see the details. I was just countering one possible objection that some people might have.

| next time you log onto vives or anyserver for that matter you can check it out. when you first log on and still in the stage of picking your character to play just click the player information tab beside the server information tab. there you will see all the players names with there class or classes along with there lvl or lvls in each class. |

Honestly I don't see what difference it makes. Why do you want to have statistics on what classes players choose or what levels they are?
Yes you can see it when you log in, but I don't see the point of keeping graphs on who is what. Will it improve roleplay? I don't think so. As have been stated in other threads, people play characters they feel they will have fun with. Will you then base the choice of your character's class on that of what the statistics show you? So what if there are already tons of rogues or fighters or wizards in game. If that is what motivates you, play it!

its only about interesting statistics, kinda like the dirtnap league. how does the dirtnap league improve rp or motivate certain classes?
i just think that if such a thing was easy to incorporate (which i figure its not so it dont realy matter) that it would at some point in time yeild valuable information.
just sombodys idea that i think is worth a thought |

These features would be possible, but something Q would have to do and decide on. But not untill he finishes all the other work we've given him. Maybe when he's done his exisiting homework, he can play around with this |

| The staff discussed some time waaay back that we did not want to show this type of information, since we did not want people getting competitive over levels and XP. I still stand by that opnion, personally. |

Re: Wishlist: Website Feature Requests Posted: 21 Jan 2004 02:04 AM |
I think number 1 would be good to help decide what character to play. While I am loathe to choose a character concept based on other people's characters, I don't like being "Human Rog/Shd/Asn #748". It would be useful in seeing which classes are "missing" before you start planning a PC.
The others, however, IMHO, are useless and futile. What would be the point, and what could be gained by having that sort of info on the site?

Bah, I say we set up two mage towers, one in Midor and one in Port. Then people can magically teleport themselves from one to the next!
Actually...
Uhm Dias Transport Services now charge 8 gp per person to go to Port or Midor. ;P |

Transports are being reworked, including changing Kusin's route and adding a new bunch of ship/ferry routes soon to make things more realistics and open up a few more options, including Ferein and some others.

| Just my $0.02. Wouldn't it be more fun to develop the outlying areas as cultures of their own, with their own resources, instead of just tying them straight to Midor? Otherwise they may just become bedroom-community suburbs of the Human empire. |

Yup yup, just like Buckshire is. A lovely coastal town with its own trade centre and militia for the citizens protections. Where all races mingle and live peacefully in an idyllic country setting.

I don't see how other areas and towns are all tied dependantly to Midor. If anyting Midor is tied to PR, and Paws is the only town tied to Midor. M'Gok Tukar, Bregodim, Ferein, Buckshire, etc are NOT in any way tied to Midor...
