Re: Q&A Posted: 15 Jul 2013 01:42 AM |
Already read the new return of the Guyver post. I like it.. though, one of these days I should really like to share the end, or rather, the continuation of Johe and Cora's story the way it has played out in MY head these past years.
And sorry Johe, for messing with you from both sides of the game (DM and PC) but it sure was fun.
Tha's awlrite, I gots a few plans ta git ya back ;)
Welcome back!

SQL Express 2008 does not appear to be completely compatible with the SQL code that was originally written for the forums.
I'll see if I can downgrade it at a later point. Otherwise, pm me with the broken links and I'll see what I can do about it.
Any and every post that starts with DM that's visible on the main page now. :)
I've found that if you go into the forum listing itself, instead of using the links on the front page, they seem to work. Which should be this link here. |

Re: Q&A Posted: 15 Jul 2013 11:11 AM |
I've found the problem.
It's a bug in the forum code that works like this
Each post is assigned a forumId and each forum is marked whether it is private or not.
When you move a thread, the first post has the forumId updated, but none of the other messages in that thread has its forumId updated.
So, if you try to access a moved post directly, the system will query that records entry, discover that the post is still marked as private and prevent you from seeing it.
Two workable fixes
1/ when the post is moved, the code should update every message in that thread.
or
2/ when a message is checked for access, the access check should be on the first message in the thread rather than the message itself.
fixing 1 is the more correct answer, but in the interests of time, I just may do #2. |

And I looked a the stored procedures and I've not had enough caffeine to puzzle it out.
So I fixed it by hand.
Ping me if you find any of the opened threads that give you errors. |

But Virallax Breathstealer also survived.
I remember there was an evil sword entity named Breathstealer, whatever happened to it? I think last I remember it was owned by the... tentacle-face doods (forget what they're called).
That was one of the first major quests I got involved in as Bereil. I remember Glor and I pouring IGMSs into that thing, as players were running away from its deathdealing swings. When it was down, stunned or playing dead, Byron tempted to use the sword for The Greater Good. And I never put all the pieces of the story together. |

Nah the sword you are thinking of was Death Drinker.
And yea we had a lot of fun with that. It was basically a demon bound into the form of a dancing sentient sword. Pdw and I were most responsible for that little beauty. :)
It possessed players, it possessed the giant king who's name I can't recall...forgorn king I think. And yea half the time just flew around by itself killing people. And it did indeed eventually end up in the hands of the Gathering, who were the illithids near Fenghuul.

Re: Q&A Posted: 18 Jul 2013 12:44 PM |
Deathdrinker was a lot of fun.
I'd take it IG, "fly" it around and kill everything in its path, where the PCs could see it app happening.
I'd emote all the happy noises the sword made when it killed.
I'd never have it attack the PCs (it was waaaaaaay overpowered) unless the PCs attacked first. I don't think too many PCs died before they learned a bit of fear.
Eventually, a large group of PCs did take the sword down. I forgot what happened there, but we did bring the sword back where the sword ended up with the Gathering (and out of play) |

Saw it in the Illithid lair at one point. I was with one or two other people (I feel like one of them was Alton). We backed out of there with extreme quickness. |

Like all the monsters, it had a weakness or two so there was actually a pretty easy way to take it down.
I forget what it was though. |
