I have to believe that Ash trees can be found in more than just one place. Perhaps there is a location a bit safer that you can get your ash from?

Where? Oh, no. FOIG.

Death, yeah, it's harsh, especially when the unpredictable lag monster hits. The way to deal with that is to travel with a buddy, or two. While you are lagged, they can deal with the bad critters.

We builders usually try to keep the placeable-heavy/laggy areas as non-hostile wherever possible........ Areas with loads of monsters we try to reduce the placeables as much as possible.......

If there are any particular areas, then if players could bugreport them? Using the in-game bugreporter....... I can maybe then take a look and see what I can do :D

Cheers

Just some clarification...

1. I don't think the builders hate archers. Crafting sucks at lower levels period, since all crafting skills (in my experience) take level into account for percentage of success. And how do you lose XP finding materials?

No, I don't mean the success on crafting, I mean getting my hand on the basic material. A tinkerer usually needs sand and clay and might have to fight a boar or two on the way.
A tailor starts with badgers and boars, and even bears are no big deal at a certain level.
But archers... well, for almost everything they need ash, and I have been playing here for a few months now and the only place I know of that has ash trees requires you to fight... well, I know, FOIG, but these things kill my lvl 13 within a few seconds...

2. It's a lot less harsh here than other servers, lemme tell you. A good portion of the other popular RP persistant worlds have perma death as a default, with very slim chances of resurrection at all.

I know, and as I said, I can live with it. I wouldn't play on permadeath servers, and I have read and by playing agreed to the death system on this server... it's just... hell, this server *is* laggy! And most of the times I die it happens in one of those unbelievable lag spikes that are not part of those rules... *sniff*

As for the rest of your post, even if it's unrelated to my complaint... I love the placeables, and those beautiful areas are probably what keeps me coming back here. I love eyecandy, and so far Vives have given me more of it than any other server. Sure, all the placeables cause graphics lag, make pathfinding almost impossible (how many times does my char jump and run around like an idiot because something's in the way again), but as long as I don't have to fight a Roc or mountain troll in those areas I'll gladly accept it.

Hmm, yes, that's how I got to my current level, travelling with someone I'm making an excellent team with. But well, if it's server side lag, usually we both were lying on the ground after it was gone, or most of the time I was lying there and my heavy-armored buddy looked at me not knowing what just happened.

Anyway, as soon as I'm ready to play again I will look for that safer place with Ash trees ( I bet one is right behind the Four Winds and I never noticed it ).

I never do crafting, but I'm pretty sure I've seen more than one location for most crafting reagents, except for maybe one or two of the metals. Can't get to a place? Invest in an invisible potion or two, that'll take you through.

As far as lag is concerned? I'm more-or-less lucky in that regard, most of my deaths come from making stupid mistakes like casting all my timestops in the same round *thumbs up*, or charging an impossible enemy just as my spellups wear off. Good thing to know: If you're feeling the lag monster coming at you, and you're either in combat or not... Heal yourself it doesn't matter if you're at full health or not, just do it. If that doesn't float, PM your buddy and tell them the same. It may be a bit OOC, I don't know, but I think it's a fair against the big bad beast o' lag.

I know a guy who might go get ash for you if you ask him. Might be expensive, but he might do it.

In fact. I know lots of guys.

*coughs* Umm... nope... only one place at the moment since I 'dug up' the ones that were safe to get to for various reasons, all perfectly valid. What I forgot to do was plant some more elsewhere. I'll be grabbing the mod today anyway for some other stuff so I'll add some - as to where? FOIG still I'm afraid, but I'll make sure they're a lot more accessible.
