1.Re: NWN Dialogue Logging
Posted by slink on 2/17/2004 8:55:14 PM
Two more bits of information that might be useful.

If you don't want to use PD's method, and want to keep your logs separated, you don't have to copy the log anywhere. Just rename the current copy to something informative, and NWN will make a new one when you start the program.

When my computer bluescreens directly from NWN, the log file is "lost" in that it was not closed by the OS. It can be recovered by forcing the OS to skip the yellow-bar, and do Scandisk ...

Just to be contrary, I'll mention that I don't use a camera hak to play NWN. I don't care if there's a sky or not, I'm only pointing out that it's not true that "everyone" uses one. *grin*

It stands to reason that transmitting a larger chunk of graphics data would introduce more lag.

I've been touring the worlds and come back with a number of interesting notions, one of which might be of value in Vives. Namely, maps. One place had maps you could buy, either individually or as groups in booklets which were much more expensive. Possession of a map meant that the area was totally revealed when the character entered it. Maps were sold only for the cities. It did require that the stores and so forth be marked with pins in order for it to be of full utility, yet it would ...

I know this one is the last one in the world you want to think about, but I thought it was cute when I ran across it. _If and when_ you ever get around to fussing over the Pack Oxen, there is a hak for pack donkeys, boars, and a few other animals. What I am thinking is that you could make an option for using the smaller animals with fewer packs. Say four for the donkeys and two for the boars. Or if you don't want to add any equines, then just the boars. There were bears, too, which would ...

For the annotated map, you just put a waypoint with "map pin" selected, and add a name in the text. For the towns these would go in front of doors with active transitions. And you are correct, it is just a script on a new item with a tablet or parchment graphic and does not require a hakpak.

Yup, I got what you mean, and this would require someone to know all of the active transitions for the cities (which I'm not ...

What's so hard about modding for Morrowind?

I admit that having it crash every so often, with increasing frequency as your changes grow larger in number, is a drawback. *grin* It is a wonderful environment otherwise. *walks off muttering* "Save, save, save ..."

I certainly haven't produced very many meshes or skins in my life, but considering the numbers of confused questions I hear from graphical artists on what to me are simple programming concepts I have to take exception to the statement that theirs is a much more difficult task. I think the tasks are different, and one is not necessarily more "simple" than the other. ;)

BTW, the Morrowind editor is very much a graphical environment. Unlike the NWN editor you don't get ...

Since you dredged this thread up for me, the vegepygmies are at:

and their Shrieker Fungi are at:

I think they're neat, anyway.

How odd this Human dancing was, thought Loli, as Shaz'jen led her through the proper moves from beginning to end. So repressed they were, yet they danced together in formal surroundings touching fully face-to-face. Nothing like the rough, good-natured, stomping dances of her childhood, or the swirling, leaping dances she imagined the Elves to do. Much more, well, -suggestive-, than either of those. And these lessons from Shaz'jen certainly were fun, she thought, as she cuddled closer to ...

Oh, hey! I loved it! And I did sense the hand of the Beastmaster behind it all. *wink*

And believe me, Loli is staying out of crypts and catacombs from now on, unless there is _very_ overwhelming reason to do otherwise. Having almost been the weak point for evil to enter the Dwarven community and do as it pleased ... *shudder*

It hasn't been resolved, I don't think. I only discussed it briefly IG with one person. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Coruva thinks it was illusion. Loli isn't so certain of that. She thinks it was real but that the gods prevented them from suffering permanent harm because of the strengths of their belief and the trueness of their willingness to die to defeat evil. She has certain tokens that indicate to her that it was not all in her mind, the apparent blindness of the clergy of Midor and ...

Just for the record, it also occurred in the Elven city rather than just in the Human and Dwarven capitals.

So why aren't there any Dark Halflings? *wanders off puzzled*

Also, while Loli may worship Bregodim, slink-in-Vives probably worships the Beastmaster, aka Arathon. Now she has the clue that drinking wine is indeed a proper step in the ritual to propitiating him she can feel good about it when she does it while playing. *big smile*

The argument about it being too improbable for us to have occurred without direct divine intervention, because the odds are too low, is hogwash. Just because you have ten places where your keys might be, making it a 10% chance they will be any one place, doesn't mean that you have to look in all ten places to find them. You might find them first try. Therefore the fact that we exist might just as well be proof that the extremely improbably did occur, as it is proof that direct divine ...

My mother brought me up to the belief that the two things one did not discuss were religion and politics. After a decade away from her I realized that what she never even acknowledged existed were sex and money. A decade after -that- I realized that it was the same thing.

Well Alo, I already told far more about myself than I probably ought to have, in an earlier post in this thread. I was just pointing out the connection that I perceive between basic biological drives and our attempts to deal with those on an intellectual level.

23.Misadventure With Lawfuls
Posted by slink on 2/21/2004 12:43:13 PM
For Loli the adventure started at the Great Plains campfire, where she, Avari, and Dina were quietly enjoying a bit of conversation about men and crafting. They were joined after a bit by Xix, Sinjin, Sirac and Solitare. After a while Xix evidentially became bored, and left. Shortly thereafter, Thelia showed herself and played around a bit with costumes, amusing some of them quite a bit. When Luther showed up, conversation turned to adventuring. Luther wanted to go fight the ogres in ...
