Albri Detriegen, son of Delbri, be givin' ye permission to be castin' such spells on me. Them thar mighty mages might as well be havin' fun - they gotta be takin' out their issues with only bein' able to be restin' now and again on somebody ...

After all, mages be known fer their tempers ...
2.Re: Alcoholic drinks

I think that alcohol and various effects would be a great idea. Having its only effect being decreased Intelligence (Bioware's default, that is) is kinda lame.

Though my character is an experienced drinker, he comes nowhere close to the one playing him.Smiley While various beverages with differing effects would be ideal, I'd like to see something like this:

Decreased Intelligence
3.Beverage of choice?

Who drinks what?

I'm a big single malt Scotch fan, though I'm slowly becoming educated and cultured on wines.

68% with Jason Biggs? Now I find that interesting. I'm blonde with grey eyes, and honestly don't see much resemblance ...

Could be worse. Could be Julia Roberts. ;)
8.Overseas Travel
Posted by Lucid_Reverie on 1/20/2006 1:51:56 PM
Okay, so let's be honest. A voyage from the Buckshire Coast to Ferein would take more than 20 minutes. While this might not be a popular idea, I think that some real time should pass (within reason).

That being said, assuming said journey would take at least a few game hours, perhaps the Aegea (and other ships) could have one or more NPCs under the main deck with various card games or other ways to pass the time? Something like that ...

Okay, so this thread is kinda old, but I'm just surfing through for the first time (bear with me).

Hmm - I've noticed that many of said shops have Changing Rooms available - perhaps something could be implemented (provided you don't leave the area) so that after the PC has tried the purchased item on (if tried on in the Changing Room) the attendant would ask if the item was acceptable, and if not, the item be removed and the purchase value returned?

13.Fantasy fiction preferences
Posted by Lucid_Reverie on 1/20/2006 2:13:22 PM
Presumably, many of the Vives folks read fantasy fiction.

How 'bout putting up some of your favorite recently-read books and/or authors?

If you're looking for an insatiably clever integration of fantasy and sci-fi, read _The Book of the New Sun_ by Gene Wolfe. It's excellent (actually four books - _The Shadow of the Torturer_, _The Claw of the Conciliator_, _The Sword of the Lictor_, and _The Citadel of the Autarch_). Great surprises and climactic plot twists.

Vodka. Ick. *shudders*

In my experience, vegetarians are among the most physically weak and easily sickened peeps out there. I'm not saying to eat bacon double cheeseburgers, but come on ... find a happy medium.

Eat some fruit with every meal and walk half hour a day and you'll be healthy as a horse.

One that eats apples sometimes.
16.Re: Harry potter
Posted by Lucid_Reverie on 1/20/2006 2:18:06 PM
Don't shoot me down, but I think that Harry Potter is incredibly overrated. I've only seen one of the movies, but I really didn't much care for the books. Too traditional and predictable.

Happy? Hmm ... I think that happiness comes in spurts, but hey, here's my thoughts.

- Sunny days in January (few and far between)
- A 22 oz. Belgian WhiteCap Ale served in a frosty mug by my favorite waitress, Danielle, at my favorite pub
- Flavorful hot sauce
- Breaking out the Aston Martin in the spring!
- When my girlfriend buys herself something nice at Frederick's of Hollywood using her own credit card
- That insane high I get when I jog the extra 1/4 ...

Having varying options based on race/class/alignment is very cool, but it's a crapload of work to do something like that. It would be awesome, though.
21.Re: Beastie Knowledge
Posted by Lucid_Reverie on 1/20/2006 1:56:14 PM
If something other than the default strengths/weaknesses/immunities/decreased immunities were to be put on NPCs, one idea would be that the PCs would gain knowledge AFTER fighting said creatures for a set amount of time.

That is probably not only difficult and very time-consuming, but probably even impossible. Though, I must say, after several hundred hours' worth of mod building and scripting on my own, I wouldn't be surprised if the builders of Vives would be able to figure such ...

I also noticed the 'mood swings' for merchants. I had wondered about that. One time even when speaking to a fellow Dwarf (Merchants Guildhouse in Buckshire) I was favorable, then remembered I didn't have my Appraise +3 gloves on. Canceled the transaction, equipped the gloves, and went back. Unfavorable.

I KNEW I should have went with the Peppermint Altoids! Those cinnamon ones just aren't the same ...

Okay, many thanks. I appreciate the responses.

My apologies for going into too much detail on the example.

I'm certainly into RP; it's the main reason that I came to the server. As you'll most likely agree, Vives is different in many ways from the majority of NWN servers (most of these ways positive). I simply wanted to ensure that I wasn't missing anything and that I wasn't leveling up more slowly than others because I was uninformed, misinformed, or just plain stupid ...

You'll never have to worry about 'poking fun' at me - I can be quite a card when I choose to be as well. ;)

I'm really enjoying Vives so far, particularly due to the nature of the roleplaying. This is the first server on which I've played wherein virtually all of the players not only stick to the heavy RP, but actually seem to know what they're doing as well. Communication is key. Many players will use the 'I can't type' excuse, but hey, until you actually try, you're never gonna ...
