| 1. | Re: Vives is not "fun"... Posted by Gideon on 1/17/2004 7:10:58 PM Just remember, this is a RP world. You are encouraged to RP and play with other players. Your not intended to go out and LEVEL up killing monsters ubtill your level 10 or so withing your first few days. Put your char into a role and start RPing from day one. You can do some quests with people around your level or you can get in a party with some higher level people and get some explorations xp (thats what it is there for). Dm's also give xp out for good RP so dont be ... |
| 2. | Re: Vives is not "fun"... Posted by Gideon on 1/17/2004 8:09:42 PM You called me a whining retard and told me my view was not valid because others did not share it. |
| 3. | Re: Vives is not "fun"... Posted by Gideon on 1/17/2004 8:12:22 PM It can often seem like RP XP isn't forthcoming.
My first 300 hours on the mod I didn't get a single blob of it, I don't think.
It tends to come during quests (Which do happen, and any character can join), or when you're just hanging around and a DM happens to be watching.
Alas, some very good RP which -does- deserve to be rewarded is missed in this way. But such is the nature of life.

| 4. | Endo Soren Posted by Gideon on 2/6/2004 2:06:16 PM He awoke in a small room in a small bed, both made of wood. He shook the sleepiness from his head. It was not a natural sleep, but an induced state. A trance. The trance. Now he remembered. He had been traveling.
He had made it through the Initiation. He had been led down into the heart of Mount Revalon and buried alive with his brothers. They were left, each buried separately, to find their own way out. It was not a test of strength, but of submission. Not of will, but ... |
| 5. | Re: too much xp Posted by Gideon on 1/17/2004 1:07:50 PM Eh, it's pretty good, but it could use some work. It's certainly the best thing out there though.
But I'm just a perfectionist, that's all. |
| 6. | Re: Skill use xp? Posted by Gideon on 1/17/2004 1:20:25 PM I agree with your point, but again I claim that this is not about MORE xp, but BETTER xp. And I am completely ignorant about crafting xp. I tried it a little, and only got 1 xp. So maybe that is more the rangers, but that would mean rangers get no xp from crafting.
So what you are saying is that monks get more ability usage xp than barbarians? FASCINATING. Let's review. Never before has a monk ever gotten xp for using an ability. So I would extrapolate that to mean that if a ... |
| 7. | Re: Skill use xp? Posted by Gideon on 1/17/2004 6:56:09 PM I was making a jocular point about no one but rogues getting skill usage xp.
Lighten up before talking please and get a sense of humor. |
| 8. | Re: Skill use xp? Posted by Gideon on 1/19/2004 1:38:56 AM Monks are definitely hard to play. And while "doing all that meditation stuff" isn't as fun as it might seem, it is nice that it is difficult enough to be one that it deters everyone from being one. So for me, being one who really enjoys monks, it's nice to be one of a few.
BUT please don't take this post to mean that I wouldn't 'appreciate' the monk being a little easier to play. Just that I don't mind it the way it is. |
| 9. | Re: Skill use xp? Posted by Gideon on 1/17/2004 12:26:59 PM I understand all of the above arguments, and they all make sense. Characters are not meant to be equal...roleplaying is where the fun is...there are plenty of ways to get xp. Yes.
For me however, the concern is with the advertising. I spent a goodly amount of time before signing up with Vives reading about it. Especially exciting for me, and I imagine others as well, was this incredible and dynamic experience system. And I must say, from the way it is described, it is quite ... |
| 10. | Re: Skill use xp? Posted by Gideon on 1/17/2004 12:55:56 PM First of all, all I have to say is that I am definitely going to post more often, especially after seeing the awesome and wicked fast response I got. Wow. As much as I liked Vives before, let me tell you...
Ok, so it's a 'bridge', not a 'hole'. I can accept that. BUT, if you the experience system worked the way it was supposed to, you wouldn't have certain problems.
Take 'stunning fist' for example. This is a wonderfully perfect example. Oooh, I love this. Ok. You ... |
| 11. | Re: Skill use xp? Posted by Gideon on 1/17/2004 12:58:49 PM And furthermore, in respone to Vandle's post, I am really friggin tired of people blathering on about "It's about the rp, not the xp" whenever a discussion about the xp system comes up. If it was about the xp, we would all go to another server. We're not discussing MORE xp here, just BETTER xp.
And no slight to you Vandle, you were just the last person to make this argument. I like you, especially in game. |
| 12. | Fog of war Posted by Gideon on 1/18/2004 12:53:51 AM This is a NWN game issue, but I'm curious if anyone else has found a better way to deal with it than me. When I'm trying to sneak up on something and attack with a ranged weapon, the fog at the horizon lets me see the target, but not click on. But, without getting any closer, I can hit 'h' to get all my interface out of the way, and rotate the camera so the target is in a corner of the screen, then it will let the icon change to attack. I assume this is the same for everyone, has anyone ... |
| 13. | Re: Dying upon loading area Posted by Gideon on 1/18/2004 1:29:14 AM Bummer |
| 14. | Re: Dying upon loading area Posted by Gideon on 1/19/2004 1:40:20 AM yeah, but that's RP. And my char is rp'ed to run like a chicken |
| 15. | Dying upon loading area Posted by Gideon on 1/18/2004 12:46:09 AM This has happened to me quite a few times. I will be fighting a monster or thre, and will decide that it's time to turn tail and run. So I run, and sometimes I turn a few corners to get a good lead on whatever is chasing me. Then I decide I'll go to the next area. Then, upon that area loading, I'm dead. Bummer
So...is this common, and does this happen to anyone else? Or is my computer just loading the new areas slow and it's something on my end that I have to live with? ... |
| 16. | Re: Bioware merchants... Posted by Gideon on 1/18/2004 12:49:02 AM Whatever changes the vives team made today, the merchants definitely seem a whole lot more reasonable. I'm still broke, but that's my own fault. At least I don't choke when I see the prices. |
| 17. | Re: Bioware merchants... Posted by Gideon on 1/17/2004 7:00:04 PM So are things supposed to change, or should we get used to not ever being able to buy anything but rations? |
| 18. | Re: Bioware merchants... Posted by Gideon on 1/17/2004 7:04:26 PM Yeah, just wanted to make sure |
| 19. | Re: Bioware merchants... Posted by Gideon on 1/18/2004 4:05:12 AM I do think that the situation mentioned above may be a bit much, as far as the length it took to find a buyer. But personally I really like that some merchants just won't buy something, not even for a little bit. It makes them seem more catered to their own profession. |
| 20. | Re: Action Server Rant Posted by Gideon on 1/18/2004 4:02:50 AM I've play PnP for years as well. And I'll say that what is probably my favorite things about Vives is the lack of a rushed feeling that you have on other servers. It has a feeling that is relaxed enough to get into the kind of situations that YOUR PC would get into, not because of their class or level, but just because of who you are creating them to be. Maybe that's what feels the most like PnP to me. |
