Fog of war Posted: 18 Jan 2004 12:53 AM |
| This is a NWN game issue, but I'm curious if anyone else has found a better way to deal with it than me. When I'm trying to sneak up on something and attack with a ranged weapon, the fog at the horizon lets me see the target, but not click on. But, without getting any closer, I can hit 'h' to get all my interface out of the way, and rotate the camera so the target is in a corner of the screen, then it will let the icon change to attack. I assume this is the same for everyone, has anyone found a less odd way of attacking from the maximum distance? |

Zooming in sometimes helps (If you can still see them when you've zoomed in, of course.)

I used to use a camera hak, cant remember the name of the creator... anyway it let you raise the camera to the hieght of your characters head. Then you could zoom right in and still see in front of your character. It added great lenght to your attack but also caused enimies to stand there like dummies. The reason for this was you were out of their range of sight.
Oh and other players in your party not using that hack had no idea what you were shooting at.
A bit of a cheat so I stopped using it. But your camera rotation until the enemy is inn the corner is what i do now along with zooming in. |

| The camera hak was by 'BrandonK' I believe, or at least Brandon something. It is not compatible with HotU however, and what I have heard is that he has no plans to make one that is. |

| I've seen this brought up before on the Bioware forums. Max ranged sneak attack is about half a screen away. I was led to believe this was a balance issue. Imagine a rogue/sd at a full screen length sneak attacking, calling shots to the legs, then HiPS. brutal. |

Well since the fog can only be turned off or decreased by the builders of the mod, he won't be able to (I think). So indeed, it'll be the end of camera haks. |

I imagine a client side hak would be possible, but it wouldn't be a neat deal like the camera haks were. Something much more brutal and...well.. hak like, I'd think.

Brandon states in the thread for his SoU camera hak that it would be dang near impossible to do a new camera hak for HotU due to the way Bioware placed the pertinent data now. Don't hold your breath. |
