lmao...

Theives "Cant" is certainly within Vives as a form, but the language itself is a mix of innuendos and secret meanings, not bad spelling and poor grammarTongue out. Not all theives be dumb after all. Lemee give an example of typical Theives Cant:

"Bully day to ya Cedric. Cloud's weatherin' on the ole' city cats today. Aye, it's a doosy of a scruffle I tell ya'"

Translation:

Bully day refers to a recent surge of guard/police activity within the city. Cloud's weatherin refers to this police force gathering for the purpose of something, in this case refered to by the "ole' city cats", which would refer to common burglars and theives. "Doosy of a Scuffle" means the tension is high, so outright pickpocketing or burglary would be a really bad idea.

I just made this example up but you get how it works now.

well.. I duno how to use it.. in a way others will understand =p
and the spelling is cuz Tom wrote it ;-)
and if he spell just as he talks :D

i didnt write it like that cuz i think they write with grammer and spelling mistakes..
I wrote that like this.. meaning that it will have bad spelling before translation.

so.. i can either rewrite that in that wierd meanings thingy.. with spelling mistakes there..
or we can all think this was writen in thives cant.. with a lot of spelling mistakes in the 'cover' sentences.. and that was the meaning =p

( i certinly prefer the second.. cuz there's no chance i will be able to write that like your sentence, and then ppl will understand it =p
(after all.. ppl talk in 'elvish' and dont need to write in actualy elvish =p )

I'm just giving you crap Dens :P.

And I am wondering if perhaps a theive's cant can be done in the way of how different races use their respective racial languages? That would clear it all up easily enough IG at least.

so wait.. what i wrote is ok? =p
or should i write the translation 'allright' and then describe that you had to wokr hard to translate the post - that was written by someone who doesnt use speller while writing =p (brain built in speller that is =p)

or maybe i should try and write a 'encoded' post - and then it's meaning? (tho i wont succeed in that =p) [it can add quite a lot tho.. so if someone wanna help me out with it ^^ )

The problem with an encoded post is that we'd need to have some kind of resource available ONLY to theives to translate it, which is both difficult to pull off at ANY time, and also kind of a pain for people without the time to memorise that stuff and take the time to translate a post. To be honest I am not sure of a really good way to do it on the forums secretly for rogues.

If you want the "effect" of it being in theives cant, but want people to be able to understand it; stick it in cockney rhyming slang :P. If you cannot speak said dialect, I've found a few things on the internet to "put" text into Rhyming Slang in the past. They worked pretty well, if I remember.

Or stick it on the board in gibberish which has some semblance of what was actually said, and PM the actual message to the rogues involved on the site :P

Bad Ideas? Thought so.. I'll show myself out.... *walks off*

"...stick it in cockney rhyming slang..."

We do not condone such language. Vives is a family environment and as such will not tolerate such crude and foul statements within our forums.

How about brummy? It's just as hard to understand as cockney rhyming slang, but it still uses the correct words
If you want an example, Pheonix_F would be able to do it much better than I.

((well anyway.. ))
*the note was posted on inns' doors across the land..
in some wierdish cant.. barely anyone could realise.. if the reader is familier with the thieves cant, he will read it (even if it has a lot of spelling and grammer mistakes) - if you want a translation of what it would sound like, or well.. what the halfling behind this was thinking about.. this how it will look like*

well, first - probably.. if you are a thief you should know it ..

second.. rouges are not thieves..
if you play a thief you will understand it..
if you are doing missions for thieves' guilds.. you should understand it

if you play a rouge.. cuz well.. your char is a rouge.. doesnt have anything to do about stealing.. break laws.. etc.. you probably wont know it..

I'm not sure I'm going to be able to get onto Vives again until it is patched for HotU owners.

I'll see if I can sort this SecureROM mess out and be there at 1900 though.
