Hellboy II, D&D Inspired?

I saw a Trailer for Hellboy II yesterday. A lot of it looked very familiar.
In fact, it looks to me like a half fiend fighting an army of inevitables led by a two drow, in the clockwork nirvana of mechanus.
Another trailer shows him using what seems to be a pair of magnifying lenses (as used by watch makers) to bypass a disguise self spell. Gems of Seeing for the lenses?
