| .... I'm not looking to restart the debate here, just have a question on how it works in NWN2. The manual says trueseeing enables caster to through ethereal and invisibility effects. Which is the same description for the first game (Sanctuary instead of ethereal anyway). So does anyone know if this effects stealth as well? |

Assuming it is true to 3.5 (which it says on the box it is). No. *Checks 3.5 Players Handbook just to be sure.*

Of course the way to find out for sure would be to create a wisdom 1 creature with true seeing but no ranks in spot or listen (using the editor) and try to sneak past it with a level 5 rogue or the like. |

mechanically, true seeing in nwn allows you to see stealthed characters.
this is *wrong* as it should not allow you to see stealthed characters.
The best thing to do in that situation is ask the PC via tell if they are invisible/ethereal/sanctuaried or stealthed. If they are the former, you can *see* them. If it is the latter, then you cannot *see* them.
Because the mechanics of the engine cannot be changed, this is the way it has to be handled.

| To be on the fair side, stealth shouldn't work like it does in NWN either, so it all evens out. But this is really an age-old debate preceding even the second greatest question of the chicken and the egg (everyone knows Heck came first). |

I don't think there is much point trying to act as though true seeing works as in PnP. As soon as true seeing got used in combat, or some situation involving an NPC this would become impractical. Probably better just to accept the rules as they are.
I usually find that spell casters expose themselves to a lot of sneak-attacks-of-opportunity anyway thanks to the lack of a five foot step, so I don't think they really need weakening. On the other hand they tend to reduce mele specialists without sneak attack to a small pile of ash. It's like paper scissors and stone.
