Would it be possible to create a feat that allows a lawful character to take bard levels (in vives or vives2)? There is a feat along these lines this in 3.5 D&D which I believe also grants other benefits. This would allow bard paladins and bard monks so would add to diversity.

Although not a builder (just a lowly newb DM) I think I can field this question. Our builders are presently working - and working hard - on getting Vives 2 out. This kind of addition to Vives 1 is very very unlikely. It is an interesting idea, but we don't have the people to try implementing it while also ensuring that it doesn't break anything.

I'll make sure it gets looked at for inclusion in Vives 2.

Just to add:

We have already tried to do this. It is supposed to be quite simple (just edit the 2da file to allow bards to be all alignments).

Unfortunately, it did not work. It appears to be hard-coded into the system. We came to the conclusion that it would probably require a very difficult workaround, such as disabling the default Bard class, and creating a duplicate, brand new Bard class which allows all alignments. In the end, we decided the massive effort was not worth the little benefit.

If we get to investigate this option, we will certainly look into it again for V2, as the non-lawful restriction makes no sense to us either and we'd love to see some lawful bards.

There is a balance reason for the alignment restriction in 3.5 D&D so be careful if you were intending to remove it in Vives 2.

The feat from 'The Complete Adventurer' allows monks that have taken a bard level to continue to take monk levels (normally forbidden in 3.5 as monks are just too good at multiclassing). There is are similar feats to allow: rogue/paladin, ranger/paladin, rogue/monk. Because the 3.0 system is less balanced anyway it would be less of a problem in Vives 1, but if it is as hard a you say to change it is probably not worth the trouble.

Fictrix, You seem to suggest it's possible to create a new class. I have never seen any new classes in Vives, is this another thing that the builders never got round to doing or was it just considered unnecessary?

We have not implemented any new classes or PrCs because creating custom content of any sort is extremely time-consuming and difficult.

We use custom content created by other people, but not CEP (since Vives pre-dates CEP), which presents another problem: every time we add new custom content, it breaks existing custom content. So we don't add new custom content often. We probably won't be adding any more new haks for Vives 1.

Makes sense. As is probably clear, I have no idea how custom content works and I have never learned to program or to script. I apologise for my naïvety.

I have already seen in Vives all sorts of changes to the original NwN game that I never thought possible. I think the builders have made a great persistent world for Vives 1 and look forward to playing Vives 2 (although this will not be for some time as I will need a new computer).
