| Perhaps it could be able to create a script that demanded that characters eat after some ingame hours, or have some problems? Same with drinking something... Better food and drinks would make it take longer for you having to feed again... |

| Oh god no, that's one of the most annoying things ever dreamed of in any sort of game. We already require food to rest, and people roleplay eating often enough without having to be forced into it. |

Actualy there -is- one in existence...I think it requires ORS a modified resting menu...but it simulates hunger thirst and fatigue..each varies...and it is in use one ..likely 2 Player Worlds.
(( ORS can be found at the Neverwinter Vault aka Olanders Resting System....it may well have been integrated into CEP2...not sure on that one. Maybe it just needs icorporating into the mod. Anyway the world is a CEP2 only world and requires no further haks to play The full ORS does a -lot- more than that by the way.)) |

| The ORS (Olander's Realistic Systems) hasn't been integrated into CEP2 by the CEP team but Olander did it well. It's a pretty impressive system with weather, fatigue, hunger, thirst, crafting, ridable horses, limited duration torches and lanterns, breakable gear, washable hedgehogs, and a complete paint-drying watching system along with many other things I can't recall. I looked at it for a while, but realized that every piece is so integrated with the whole it's hard to pick and choose what you want (at least not easily for a complete novice like myself) without breaking it somewhere else. I couldn't even locate the proper 2das to join in order to add more haks. A stroke of genius; just not easy for a n00b to use unless he/she only wants to use the ORS and nothing else. |

Re: Cooking Posted: 21 Sep 2007 09:05 PM |
Having played on some servers that do make use of the script, I do quite like it. Then again, this is from someone who's told "enough with trying to make thins realistic already!", by certain, unnamed individuals. But what can I say, I like most things that make life difficult. Personal preference. Hooray for HCR!
...Aaaaaaanyways!
Granted, like most things, it comes down to implementation. If fatigue, hunger and thirst degrade too rapidly, it's REALLY annoying. And most servers (that I've played on) that do implement the script have it wrong.
On the other side of the fence, it can add some things aside from frustration, if done right. Generally, this includes lengthening the day cycle on the server (no more 2 minute hours) and slowing the rate hunger/thirst/fatigue affects the character. Mind you, if it's too slow, there simply isn't any point to having it at all. Balance is key (Gee, thanks SQ, haven't heard that one before).
Right, so what does it add already!? Little things. For example, cooking and brewing in the CNR crafting. It gives incentive to develop those otherwise (mechanically) useless craft skills. A master Baker or Brewer bestows a greater regeneration of hunger/thirst/fatigue when consuming said chef's goods.
So in short...
Too fast? and it's a constant nagging scramble to feed your character. That, or you suddenly find yourself dead of starvation because you couldn't reach the pickle at the bottom of barrel fast enough. Ouch.
Balanced just right? Forgot all those dime a dozen master smiths walking around! Time to fire up the ovens and open up the first location of your McVives restaurant chain! Wahoo! Obesity hits the realm of fantasy! Give you some second thoughts about those chainmail bikini's now, hey?
Verdict? No. Not in Vives. The issue of balancing such a script is far too much time and effort for the gains. Time and effort that any of the development staff would agree is better spent on more... umm... integral parts of server. Such as, building areas, or getting the server up and running for instance! Not to mention the vast majority that would not be in favour of the system.
And I don't blame them (You vast majority folks, that is) . If we wanted a Hard Core Rules server, we wouldn't be here on Vives in the first place. What Vives is and always has been, is a roleplay intensive server, never a pop-a-vein-in-frustration HCR server. That word, "balance" comes into play here again.
Am I far enough off on a tangent yet? ... Wait... what side am I on again? |
