medieval musket Posted: 22 Aug 2007 03:32 PM |
Where are the guns? In the original AD&D 2nd addition game, the aquerabus, or musket, was an optional addition to the package. There were some DMs that did not want gunpowder in stores, or even at high prices to be bought and sold, so the very prospect was eliminated. I can see miners selling the rare powder, gnome alchemists extracting the necessary magics and elven enchanters waving a wand over the mysterious powder. There are models for the medieval musket in a NWN expansion, and I am new, have not even logged in yet, so there can be guns there I have yet to see, but wouldn't that be an interesting dynamic? The original rules had the rarity of the powder so rare that the use of the powder for military campaigns was unfeasable. Magic wands, staves and crystals were much in abundance compared with the necessary cultivation of the explosion powders.
I've seen one such model for the musket in a pirates campaign, and that uses an unlimited charge ruleset. I'd like to see a limit to charges and the utilization of gunpowder on the musket adds an extra few charges to the shot cannon. I call the gross product, wands for warriors, but having a necessary UMD component is not such a bad call, especially if there are gnomes and elves that make the weapons. The consumption of time to fire off a musket is an interesting component, if there were one or two charges in a musket, the last charge not destroying the item as it does a wand, then reloading the weapon for a new shot has a PC thinking twice about using these. After all, if there are guns, what next, gun control? |

| All I can say is that while I also advocate the implementation of firearms (being something of a history buff), it will more than likely not happen. I suppose it's possible for NwN2, but you'd have to look to the builders with that. (Maybe big puppy eyes might help?) As it stands now, as far as I can tell, there are no plans for firearms of any sort. |

I'm afraid I bring bad news........... There'll (with almost 100% accuracy) never be any sort of firearm in the Vives setting. It just doesn't "fit" quite right with the world.
Sorry.

What canons?
I assume you are referring to the gnomish *censored* paraphernalia lying around Port. Those are NOT canons although it is a common misconception amongst the laymen. A little known local legend recalls the Stoner Lord of Port and his gnome entourage. It was a high time in history when those gnomish devices were still in use. Alas, tis no longer so. |

The cannons IG aren't that out of place. For all you know they could be magefire cannons or somehow arcane-powered (instead of gunpowder-powered).
And, what Ara said: no firearms will ever be available in V1 or V2. |

| Hmmm... well, surprisingly Ficcy doesn't recall the Stoner Lord and his gnomish entourage. Perhaps it isn't true... |

| However, if you DO want to run around with flintlocks, you can download BattleGrounds 1 or 2 for Half-Life 1 or 2 (respectively), and kill the oppressive British or rebellious Continentals. (www.bgmod.com) (Shameless plug, I know, but why not? :D) |

No, no, it was a Halfling entourage. It's Halflings that breed like rabbits, not Gnomes.

It's a shame Vives has no sort of rampant S.T.D.
The Halflings would all be gone within a month. ):

You have no idea what you are really asking for, IX.
*looks at PDW*
Shall we show him?
*sends evil grin back at IX*
Seriously though, be very careful about asking for a disease.
