Ashes To Ashes

((This thread is for a few things concerning Lyle Ashe, a more detailed description of him I can update whenever his appearance changes, a bios of his rough stats (so people can point out if I am roleplaying him correctly and it may serve as a diary if Ashe decides to write anything down.))

Appearance:
Lyle Ashe is a relatively average sized and looking hin - he certainly isn't ugly, but his manner means that people are often put off him slightly - has little from a visual perspective that draws attention to him. Ashe hides behind a mask and a hood almost all the time, taking the mask down whenever he is eating and rarely ever else. Underneath the hood though, he has brown hair long enough to cover his ears, again nothing special.
His eyes are probably the most striking part of his face - empty and emotionless as though something has been torn from him, a portion of his being. Aside from this, they are a deep blue.
His build is light, as most halfling adventures are, and he has great dexterity in anything he does - always looking ready to spring out of the way of something, although what he would spring to do is a mystery, as there are no answers in his eyes. His armour neither adds nor takes away from his build, it keeping his form and allowing for quick movement, and it helps him blend both into the shadows and into the trees, in fact his armour often seems to have twigs and leaves in it (whether this is intentional or not is a mystery). He has a black cloak concealing a shortbow and small shield with the quiver poking out. On his belt are two scabbards, one longer than the other, containing Ashe's two blades - his most comfortable melee stance. There are also various leather pouches containing all manner of things and various tools - all in all making him look as though he can do nearly anything if he puts the effort into it.
Ashe has sharp ears, picking up sounds many wouldn't and combined with his good memory he will generally be able to tell if a friend or an unknown person has approached.
Ashe's voice is empty and does not speak in the characteristic accent of a halfling, instead he speaks plainly with little to betray of any place he could have come from.

Bios:
STR - 12
Ashe is slightly above average in strength but is in no way a warrior. He only really has this muscle because he carries so much around.

DEX - 21
Ashe is very quick and can usually get out of harms way before it reaches him. He will always use this to his advantage in any situation, always on guard - even when having a drink in a tavern.

CON - 14
Time spent in the woods has made Ashe less susceptable to disease and poison, giving him a slightly more rugged appearance than most rogues.

INT - 14
Ashe can solve nearly anything provided he is given all the information. He uses this to apply himself to many skills (he is always looking for more efficient ways of hiding). He also has a very good memory.

WIS - 8
Ashe tends not to notice things unless they are fairly obvious and infront of him. This, combined with his intelligence, means that he tends to leap to answers that are missing information other people would tend to notice.

CHA - 10
Ashe is plain looking, perhaps slightly attractive, but his shadowy demeaner and his near constant use of his hood and mask detracts from this.

Rogue 4:
Ashe came to Vives looking to be a rogue, perhaps an assassin, and his neutral stance on most things does not get in the way. However, other pursuits have caught his attention, and so he is not of the level of skill with some things as someone who purely focussed on them would be.

Ranger 3:
After spending a lot of time hiding in the woods around Brandibuck, Ashe began to become attached to them, more out of become accustomed to them than an emotional connection. As such he has picked up skill at camoflage. He also communicates with animals, generally lapsing into the speech of the spiders if he is talking to other people of the forest.

Shadowdancer 5:
Upon meeting a few people around Port Royale, Ashe became very interested in this profession and has picked up some skills in it. He doesn't understand how much of it works (especially pulling shadows up as a creature) and perhaps gains a slightly worrying feel as he gets better and better at slipping out of view and controlling shadows. Ashe has also had odd luck with his shadow magic and he thinks he is being aided by someone.

Chaotic Neutral - Free Spirit:
Ashe has little holding sway over him and tends to act on whatever he feels like (which, in his current state, isn't much). However he tends to be oddly just, using his logic in most situations. He also follows no deity, preferring to be away from the competitions between Gods.

((So there you go, that is Ashe summed up. If any of the above change I will probably post a diary entry to explain it from Ashe's perspective. If I have missed anything, please please please PM me...))

Ashes To Ashes - Searching For A Heart

Ashe wandered around Undercity like a lost soul, slowly gravitating towards Nethar'u. In thinking about it, Ashe decided that he was a lost soul, or rather he had lost his. He wasn't exactly sure how he felt about that, he certainly didn't have any hatred to those who had done it to him but at the same time had no thanks. He just didn't have anything.

As he walked the short distance to hop on the boat Ashe decided to himself that he probably should feel angry about what had happened, as being grateful would lead him down a dark path. However, as time went by, Ashe had less and less holding him away from turning to evil creatures in the hope that doing so would give a chance for his restoration. It was Kalid that had held him away from that the most but with her departure from Port he had fewer people to turn to.

Ashe handed over the coins for the voyage, emptily declaring that his reason for passage was curiosity. He was definatly not brave - it was just his inner emptiness causing him to not even feel fear. Or anything else for that matter...

On the boat, Ashe's mind wandered over what he had lost as he tried to summon up memories of emotion, perhaps to sustain himself. But even before the incident, how often was he truly happy? The times he had spent with Lea came to mind, along with his conversations with animals and a couple of other events. He filed all these thoughts away in his head for accessing later, desperatly trying not to forget them - more out of a sense of duty than anything else. Other emotions flicked through his head: sadness, fear, envy, love...

Love, that word brought nothing to Ashe's mind. At least not anymore. He pondered to himself the meaning of that, certain it should worry him and would have had he not been in this state.

He was shaken out of this line of thought as the boat bumped lightly against the decking and Ashe deftly stepped off the boat and onto land. He nodded blankly to the woman and wandered off in the direction of the Hall of Champions. A harpy fell under his blades as he crossed a bridge before he decided it would be wiser to just travel unseen. He touched the gem on his shield, followed by his chest and vanished from sight.

----------

Ashe reappeared in the doorway of the Hall of Champions, determined his search would begin there but noted the smell of smoke on the air, along with the haze at the other end of the hall partially obscuring a black figure. Kalid? Ashe wondered to himself what she was doing there before walking forward to greet her. Unfortunatly she didn't notice him - she was pacing back and forth talking to herself - and so he pulled out his bow and let loose an arrow towards one of the thrones.

A short conversation later and Kalid went off to rest. There was something distinctly wrong with her, she had changed over the few days she had been away - now distinctly showing signs of insanity. That would be something to ask about later, Ashe thought. After surveying the whole of the building and finding nothing, Ashe decided to go closer to where his problem had began.

----------

Ashe sat at the top of the stairs down to Hell, ignorant of the heat of the chamber and completly unafraid of his position above creatures many would rather kill themself then see. Still nothing useful was found and Ashe began going over his emotions again, waiting...

Ashes To Ashes - Searching For A Heart

Ashe awoke at the top of the stairs, smelling of smoke and slightly singed. He blankly cursed his slumber in such a location, shook himself off and walked out, avoiding oozes in the mines. Might as well check to see if Kalid is still around... he thought to himself as he pushed open the door to the Hall. Kalid wasn't in sight - although the signs of her habitation were still visible. She was definatly still about. Ashe wandered into the crypt room, as calm and silent as the bodies in their resting places.

----------

After spending more hours than were easily countable perfectly still and almost thoughtless Ashe wandered back into the Hall, planning on heading to the surface - although he was not sure why. To what would have been his surprise, Kalid was sat on one of the thrones looking rather unhealthy. He paced over, somewhat warily, and tried to get her attention.

She was wounded, badly, but was refusing his help - apparently she was unable to see him (although his dark clothes were more than part of this) and so thought he was just another shadow. In the end, Ashe persuaded Kalid to return to the surface with him to seek aid - although he wasn't sure she knew what he was talking about. The outside proved to be problematic though, and Ashe found himself wishing there was a fighter around as a few harpies beset them. They fell to his blades though and Ashe was unharmed, Kalid still limping around. She couldn't seem to stay focused enough to use the shadows to stay hidden.

Then the harpy queen flew over, obviously noticing her kin slain on the floor, and screeched it's challenge. Ashe took out his bow and a bundle of arrows coating in a green substance, trying to keep the creature's attention - it didn't seem fair to him to allow Kalid to die here. Again and again he loosed arrows at the queen and in the process noticed the wounds on Kalid's back looking suspiciously like the woulnds a harpy would cause. He said nothing though, instead just firing a final arrow into the queen's skull, killing her. A quick look to Kalid satisfied him that she could still make it and they turned to leave.

A demon was there...

"I will rend your soul" was it's challenge, one Ashe nearly managed to laugh at. He threw back a mocking 'I don't have one!' and stood in front of Kalid. *crack!* The next thing he knew he was slumped against the wall of the gate bleeding profusely from a whip mark tracing a line over his left shoulder. Kalid was next, struck in the face sending her reeling back before she closed the gate and fiddled with the lock, after which she limped back into the Hall. Ashe followed moments later - drinking a potion as he did so, his wounds closing up as he watched. He cast one look back at the gate, half expecting the demon to burst through, before following Kalid into the Hall.

Ashe then set about doing what he should have done earlier. He pinned the weakened elf to the floor and began wrapping up her injuries - having to peel away her bloodsoaked robe in places. He knew that she needed a better healer, preferably one with access to magic, but what he could do would help.

Ashes To Ashes - Searching For A Heart

The last few days had been... eventful. Ashe paused and wondered whether that was the best way to describe it. He couldn't pin an emotion on it but decided that excitement would probably suit it.

It had started when he had bumped into Buck on his way to hunt lions and dig sand. They changed that plan and instead went hunting and exploring, making a good team. After clearing out all of Buckshire's ruins and caves and places, they had headed out into the desert repeating the process there. Eventually the digsite was their destination and again, not a lot stood in their way - until they came out that is.

Ashe rounded a corner to find Buck lying dead at the entrance with a huge undead creature pacing around so he did what any unfearing hin would have done - he shot it. Then, deciding that staying alive was probably more reasonable than being slaughtered, he slipped into the shadows and left. On the outside he warned the archaeologist who was killed in front of his eyes - maybe it would be better to warn someone alive.

He slipped out of the desert, another Corpse Gatherer appearing behind him, and ran all the way to Buckshire wondering where to find people. Then it struck him - the inner hero coming out - as he turned back in the direction of the trail. I can take this... he thought to himself as he walked back - he couldn't leave Buck there anyway... He set a bundle of vicious red arrows in his quiver and made his way back, picking up a Cougar on the way for back up.

It took ages but eventually the creature fell to his onslaught of arrows. Ashe simply would fire upon it until it got too close and would then slip into the shadows and walk away.

((Hell yes! This monster was rated Impossible))

Ashe turned around to see Buck walking out of the entrance to the digsite - he didn't look healthy, so Ashe ran over and passed him a potion, completly restoring him back to full health. Buck muttered something about a deal and having to go to the temple garden before running off. Might as well follow him... make sure he doesn't do something stupid...

----------

At the garden behind the Seven Sisters Ashe slumped onto a log exhausted. Tristian and another man were there, along with Buck doing something with a shovel. Ashe asked what Buck was doing and saw a bone being hastily put into a freshly dug hole. He shrugged and walked away, sitting down again to count his arrows. It was quite a surprise when two very powerful ghosts appeared from nowhere and proceeded to kill Ashe, Tristian and the other with seemingly little effort...

*The following is scrawled on a piece of paper folded up on Ashe's person. His handwriting is average and of little interest.*

----------
Aims:
Learn whatever the dragons speak
Get my soul back, and hopefully manage to put it somewhere safe (an amulet?)
By the Harp and learn to activate it
Control the shadows... all the shadows
----------

Ashe folded away and put the paper in his chest pocket, having things to aim for kept dark thoughts from his mind.

Ashe sat silently in the Lover's Retreat, guarenteed not to be interrupted. He had arranged all his weapons and trinkets out in front of him and was debating how the collection could be improved. On the table were: His ice dagger, a shortsword that put things to sleep, a kama he was trying to find a matching pair of, a whip, his bow, a sling, arrows and bullets of various enchantments, a few throwing spears, a firebomb (he wanted more of this but had used his penultimate one fighting off an ooze) and a potion that allowed him to breath out a gout of fire.

Also there was a large array of potions to convey him with various magical abilities: speed, defense and several others and a few enchanted items: his shield and magic ring for vanishing if he was truely in trouble, his harp for minor healing and other effects (if he could just get them to work properly). All this combined with his formidable shadow abilites made him a force to be reckoned with. He just needed to know exactly what to use and when.

He pushed the shortsword aside - sleep was not a useful tactic against the undead - and this was followed by the whip (too weak). It looked to him like the kama and dagger would be the combination if he had to get into a fight and the kama would actually lend itself to keeping him hidden. He looked between his bow and his sling - he was a better shot with the sling and had various bullets to bring down opponents who wouldn't fall to physical damage but at the same time he could hit harder with the bow. Decisions decisions...

Of course, if it all turned pear shaped... he still had his deck of cards.

He thumbed the corner of the deck as it stayed hidden in his breast pocket.

He would have to be desperate.

Ashe payed the innkeeper enough gold for the use of his room for a whole month. Not for himself but for Lea, the hin girl who currently used his bed. Sure... Ashe used the chest for anything he didn't want to carry in person but he rarely slept in the bed.

Lea wasn't in so he left a note on the pillow.

Lea,
I have left for a while, I want to explore more of the lands and spend some time away from Port. I also have someone looking for me that I hope to find. I have given the innkeeper enough money to keep you in this room for more than long enough, you don't have to worry about that.

Ashe then walked downstairs, took some food from the kitchen (without paying) and walked out the door.
