Animal empathy and groups.

Could it possibly be fixed so that if someone is grouped with a ranger/druid the animals that become peaceful to them will become peaceful to all those in the group? It seems a bit strange that an animal would look over, see a druid and think oh, well, I'll just leave him alone, but that person with them sure looks like they'd make a good snack!

Really? I thought that's why pit bulls have such a bad rep...

Maybe we just need more awakened pit bulls...

Yeah, totally agree with this. It seems somehow wrong that a pack of wolves will go around something to attack something else. This happened in my trip today. Two wolves ran right around me (after turning non-hostile, of course,) to attack the other person in my party. This prompted me to defend her, which in turn made everything else that was non-hostile, come after me. It's strange.

Not really, the druid/ranger whatever has the necessary empathy and is regarded as a friend, the other being regarded as dinner.

There is a solution, take points in animal empathy.

Alternatively, if you want it free, fine. So long as every druid or ranger gets the ability to pick locks/disable traps/sneak attack without taking points in it.

That's why there are different classes imo, they have a closer affinity to nature than you.

If there is a ranger/druid in the party, they can always go ahead and move hte animals away with their empathy skill

Purpose in life: finding better ways of allowing players to kill themselves. Repeatedly.

Um... only druids and rangers CAN take points in Animal Empathy. It's not allowed for other classes.

And I don't see how a bear would not make the assumption that a group of people, led by a 'friend of the forest', is not going to harm them. The leader can say: "Alright. The animals here are very hostile, so let me try and tell them that we are merely travelling through, and as long as no one makes any sudden moves, nothing should attack us."

Granted, animals have an INT score of 3, but a WIS score of 12 should be able to let the bear know something besides "Oh! Tasty gnomes!"

But then this would go into the low INT / high WIS topic again.

I do like PDW's idea, even if it's time consuming. A good ranger or druid would do that. An evil one would dominate one and have it attack the others.

That is the way to simulate it - with the animal empathy skill.

Purpose in life: finding better ways of allowing players to kill themselves. Repeatedly.

*grins* Well done, you noticed. And that is why there are different classes :)

As to it being time consuming, so is waiting for a mage to memorise his spells, a rogue to open a door or diarm a trap, or in fact waiting for any class specific task to be carried out - it's not an issue imo, it promotes roleplay, and that's why we're here :P

And here I was, avoiding the smarta**ed comments. I know that.

As I said, I have no problem with it, but you can expect a group of adventures to say, "Aw, not more bears!" They'll have to wait like the rest of us.
